Man pleads guilty over footage of women getting undressed at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital sleep clinic

A man who worked in a sleep clinic at a major Perth hospital has pleaded guilty to a dozen charges relating to footage of women getting undressed.
Police alleged Stuart James King, who worked in IT at the clinic at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, kept the footage on his personal computer.
The clients knew they were to be filmed as part of their analysis and treatment for sleep disorders, but the footage was not intended for anyone's personal use.
The footage, which showed the women getting undressed and dressed, was recorded in 2019 and 2020.
Police charged King with more than two dozen counts of unlawful use of a computer earlier this year, after executing a search warrant at his home.
Appearing in Perth Magistrates Court via video link from prison, the 51-year-old pleaded guilty to 12 charges but the remaining charges were dropped.
He is scheduled to appear in court again in September for a sentencing hearing.
The man worked in IT at the hospital and was not a clinician.
After the charges came to light, North Metropolitan Health Service said "immediate action was taken" as soon as it was informed of the matter and he was no longer employed.

Man charged over alleged indecent exposure on flight

A man will face court today for allegedly indecently exposing himself to two female passengers on a domestic flight. The Fijian national was travelling on a Melbourne to Brisbane flight on June 1 when police allege he indecently exposed himself to two women seated in the same row as him during the flight. The passengers, who did not know the man, reported the alleged behaviour to airline staff and were subsequently moved to different seats. Airline staff then monitored the man for the remainder of the flight. The Australian Federal Police were called to Brisbane Airport following a request for assistance and escorted the man from the plane when it landed. The AFP spoke to the man and other passengers and crew. Following the investigation they then charged the male passenger with one count of indecent exposure. The maximum penalty for this offence is 12 months' imprisonment. AFP Detective Superintendent Anthony Conway said there was no excuse for offensive behaviour in any situation, especially on a flight where passengers were confined in a limited space. 'Indecent conduct on a plane will not be tolerated, and the AFP will take action against individuals who engage in this kind of criminal behaviour,' Mr Conway said. The man is due to appear before the Brisbane Magistrates Court today 18 July, 2025.

Sydney businessman turned criminal Salim Mehajer walks from jail on parole

Disgraced Sydney businessman Salim Mehajer has been released from prison on parole after spending the past five years behind bars for a raft of criminal offences. Mehajer, now 39, walked from John Morony Correctional Centre near Windsor on Friday to a waiting car, ending a long chapter of run-ins with law enforcement. He left the prison compound in a black Mercedes-Benz car without making comment to the pack of waiting media. A court has previously heard he spent the majority of his time in the correctional centre in protective custody, commonly known as solitary confinement. The State Parole Authority in June handed down a decision recommending his release after assessing him as having a "medium" risk of re-offending. He left custody on parole on Friday after serving three years and nine months of his seven-year sentence for domestic violence and fraud offences. Mehajer first earned public notoriety as deputy mayor of Auburn for his lavish 2015 wedding that saw his street closed down for wild celebrations featuring luxury cars, motorcycles and four helicopters. He was fined $220 by the council for closing off the street without permission and shortly after held a bizarre press conference where he flagged his intention to run for prime minister. Mehajer's legal issues got more serious in the following years, with police investigating the former property developer for corruption, assault, fraud and domestic violence offences. In June 2018 he was jailed for 11 months for electoral fraud, but shortly after his release in May 2019 he found himself back in prison for perverting the course of justice for staging a car crash. Mehajer admitted orchestrating the crash in 2017 to avoid a court appearance over assaulting a cab driver. After again being granted bail Mehajer's time as a free man did not last long after being charged, then convicted in November 2020, of lying in affidavits to secure relaxed bail conditions. He has not left custody since, with one District Court judge remarking Mehajer had a history of "manipulating the court system". While on remand in Cooma Correctional Centre, the corrupt former local politician then faced charges of domestic violence against a former partner. He would later be convicted of assaulting the woman during their relationship, and sending her threatening messages from jail. Mehajer choked the woman, struck her 10 times and threatened to kill her mother, according to documents released by the parole board last month. At the time Mehajer had resorted to defending himself in the Sydney District Court after a judge was told of several disputes with previous legal representatives. In 2022 he was labelled a vexatious litigant by a court, preventing him from launching civil lawsuits, after a failed court litigation involving a $52 million development in Lidcombe. It means Mehajer would need a court order granting him permission before launching any further action in the state's legal system.

Forensic Science Queensland director Linzi Wilson-Wilde resigns following suspension

The director of Forensic Science Queensland [FSQ] has resigned after the state government last month issued her a show-cause notice. Dr Linzi Wilson-Wilde, who was appointed to the role in September 2024, confirmed to the ABC she had resigned. In a statement, she said she wished the lab nothing but the best. Attorney-General Deb Frecklington announced in June she had immediately suspended Dr Wilson-Wilde, pending a show cause notice for her removal. At the time, she said the action was taken after FSQ put a general pause on routine DNA testing following "contamination issues" that were identified. The government has not disclosed the nature of the contamination issues, but has confirmed routine DNA testing has since resumed. In a statement on Friday morning, Ms Frecklington said the Dr Wilson-Wilde's resignation was effective immediately. "Natasha Mitchell, Executive Manager Forensic Biology, will continue acting in the role of director until a permanent appointment is made," she said. "The Crisafulli government is firmly committed to the future of Forensic Science Queensland." FSQ is an independent statutory authority and forensic service provider, which supports the criminal justice and coronial systems with specialised services in forensic biology and forensic chemistry. Two commissions of inquiry, in 2022 and 2023, found serious failings over many years at the FSQ lab, including a "fatally flawed" automated testing method that might have seen offenders escaping conviction. Dr Wilson-Wilde became director in September 2024 after joining FSQ as interim chief executive in January 2023.
