Tragic new details emerge after a baby was found dead at a suburban home in Balcatta, Perth
The tragic death of a six-month-old baby boy is being treated as an alleged family violence homicide, Western Australia 's top cop has revealed. Emergency responders were confronted with traumatic scenes after being called to a home on Campion Avenue in Balcatta, northern Perth, early on Monday. It's understood the baby boy was found with stab wounds and died in front of other family members, including a teenage girl. A woman in her 30s was taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital where she underwent a mental health assessment under police guard. She was released from hospital on Monday night but remains in police custody. No charges have yet been laid as police try to piece together what happened. Harrowing new details emerged when WA Police Commissioner Col Blanch fronted a press conference on Tuesday. 'This is a trauma that no one will ever recover from, and I think the family are just deeply affected,' he told reporters. 'There would be very few cases where you would have a crime scene of such a horrific nature for our officers and all first responders involved. 'And certainly those officers would be entitled to their critical incident leave, but that's something that will most likely haunt them for the rest of their careers.' Other family members are assisting homicide detectives with their inquiries. 'It's very confined to the members of that household,' Commissioner Blanch said. 'It's a very sad story, obviously with the death of such a young baby.' Premier Roger Cook said that his thoughts were with everyone impacted by the 'dreadful' tragedy. 'Obviously, there are family and friends who are impacted by the information that is now coming through and it's incredibly sad and horrible stuff,' he said. 'I also want to extend my thoughts to first responders who would have gone into that scene, confronted by some very difficult circumstances.' The suburban street remained in lockdown for most of Monday as police, homicide detectives and forensic officers examined the crime scene. The tragedy has rocked the family's neighbours, who described the woman who lived at the home as a kind, sweet person who loved her kids. 'I know she had been struggling lately with the new baby and her own personal stuff... When I heard that one of the kids had died, I just felt sick to my stomach,' a neighbour told The West Australian. Another man added: 'Just for the (police) forensics to have to go to a job and deal with that is just, you know, there is nothing worse'.

Six-month-old boy dies in suspected stabbing in Perth home
A homicide investigation is under way after a six-month-old baby boy died from suspected stab wounds at a home in Perth's north. Emergency services were called to Campion Ave in Balcatta about 3am on Sunday following reports a child had been seriously injured. Despite the efforts of ambulance crews, the infant could not be saved. A woman in her 30s was also found at the property and taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital under police guard. She remains there in a stable condition. Police established a large crime scene at the home, about 10km from the CBD, which remained cordoned off throughout Sunday as forensic officers combed the area for evidence. Shocked neighbours told 9News they didn't hear any disturbance during the night and only realised something was wrong when police arrived with flashing lights. 'The investigation is in the preliminary stages and family members of the infant are assisting detectives with their inquiries,' a WA Police spokesperson said on Tuesday.

Homicide Squad detectives investigating after baby found dead in Balcatta home
A baby has been found dead in a home in the Perth suburb of Balcatta. Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the death of the infant, who was aged under 12 months. Police say the investigation is in the preliminary stages and family members of the infant are assisting detectives with their inquiries. St John Ambulance sent several crews to the home shortly after 3am on Monday morning. A spokesperson said a woman was taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

Man pleads guilty over footage of women getting undressed at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital sleep clinic
A man who worked in a sleep clinic at a major Perth hospital has pleaded guilty to a dozen charges relating to footage of women getting undressed. Police alleged Stuart James King, who worked in IT at the clinic at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, kept the footage on his personal computer. The clients knew they were to be filmed as part of their analysis and treatment for sleep disorders, but the footage was not intended for anyone's personal use. The footage, which showed the women getting undressed and dressed, was recorded in 2019 and 2020. Police charged King with more than two dozen counts of unlawful use of a computer earlier this year, after executing a search warrant at his home. Appearing in Perth Magistrates Court via video link from prison, the 51-year-old pleaded guilty to 12 charges but the remaining charges were dropped. He is scheduled to appear in court again in September for a sentencing hearing. The man worked in IT at the hospital and was not a clinician. After the charges came to light, North Metropolitan Health Service said "immediate action was taken" as soon as it was informed of the matter and he was no longer employed.

Cyclist seriously injured in crash with SUV in Claremont
A cyclist has been seriously injured in a crash with an SUV at a busy intersection near a major shopping centre. The rider, 57, and a blue Land Rover Discovery collided at Stirling Rd and Barnfield Rd in Claremont in Perth 's western suburbs on Saturday, May 31, WA Police said. Emergency services raced to the scene near Claremont Quarter at about 9.45am before taking the cyclist to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital with serious injuries. Police said the Land Rover driver, a 60-year-old woman, was uninjured. An investigation is underway and police appealed for information on Wednesday, 11 days after the emergency.
