Distraught mum reveals the offer alleged childcare paedophile Joshua Brown made that still haunts her to this day
Joshua Dale Brown, 26, was charged with more than 70 child abuse offences last week, including the sexual penetration of a child and producing child abuse material.
The alleged offences occurred during Brown's employment at Creative Garden Early Learning Centre Point Cook, where he worked between October 2021 and February 2024.
Melbourne mum Melody Glaister is among hundreds of parents left reeling by the news and took to social media to express her horror.
Her daughter, now six, attended the daycare centre during the entirety of Brown's employment at the centre.
Ms Glaister revealed he was her daughter's favourite educator and that he had even offered private babysitting services on more than one occasion.
'It haunts my husband and I that we seriously considered accepting his offer,' she wrote.
'It is distressing to the point where my husband no longer trusts anyone to care for her other than ourselves.'
Ms Glaister claimed Brown asked about her daughter when the pair crossed paths earlier this year.
'He was bubbly and always wanted to be around the children, which at the time I thought was a good quality,' she told the Herald Sun.
'I've had so many conversations with him, (the charges) came as a complete shock.'
Her daughter was one of 1,200 children who had to be tested for sexually transmitted infections last week in the wake of the allegations against Brown.
It was her little girl's first-ever blood test.
'Having to explain to her that she needed to undergo that kind of testing … that was also something that no parent should ever have to go through,' Ms Glaister said.
She is among hundreds of parents now demanding answers from the childcare centre.
'We have had to have conversations with our child that no parent should ever have to. Let alone one so young,' Ms Glaister posted online.
'Please, on behalf of all those currently seeking answers as to what went wrong, we need proper accountability and WE NEED CHANGE NOW! For the sake of our precious and innocent children.'
Brown worked at 20 childcare centres over an eight-year period between January 2017 and May 2025.
He was not known to police before his arrest and had a valid Working With Children Check, which has since been cancelled.

A convicted paedophile described allegations of abuse at a residential school as a 'load of rubbish' during evidence he gave to the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry. The inquiry is investigating abuse in residential settings including boarding schools, religious establishments and foster care. On Tuesday, an ex-teacher referred to as Evan gave evidence via videolink from prison, where he is serving an eight-year sentence for sex offences. The rapist was jailed at the High Court in Edinburgh in 2021 for seven charges against five girls aged 12 to 16. Three of these overlapped the period when he was a teacher at Ovenstone Residential School in Pittenweem, Fife, in the 1980s – though the girls were not pupils there. The man was given anonymity by the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry (SCAI) and was referred to as Evan. Ovenstone was a school for children with behavioural and emotional problems. He was asked about three convictions of rape and sexual assault on the school premises, but denied the crimes had occurred, the inquiry heard. The former teacher repeatedly answered 'no comment' to allegations of violence and sexual assault made by the father of a pupil, and branded it a 'load of rubbish', the inquiry heard. Giving evidence, Evan described Ovenstone as 'the end of the line' for pupils he described as 'castaways', and recalled 'a little village school', praising the 'caring attitude' of staff he worked with in the Fife fishing village. Evan said: 'It was our job to re-integrate children into mainstream schools and society.' He denied general allegations of abuse, and said he was unaware of allegations of abuse during his time at the school. However, he replied 'no comment' to a string of allegations of violence. Counsel for the inquiry Ruth Innes KC said: 'I'm going to ask you about allegations made against you [by a pupil's father]. Did you ever grab him by the back of the head? 'Did you ever hit his head on a desk? Did you ever slam the lid of the desk down on his hands? 'Did you ever press your finger into his forehead making him bend his head back? Whilst doing that did you shout in his face? 'Did you ever hit him with a pool cue? Did you ever sexually assault him with a pool cue?' After replying 'no comment', Evan said: 'This has been investigated. All my lawyer said is to say 'no comment'. I am finding it very difficult, because that list is a load of rubbish.' Chair of the inquiry, Lady Smith said: 'It's a matter of fairness that the questions are given to you.' Evan said: 'I'm sorry it's just so frustrating, that I can't unload myself to you. Obviously I've got to do what my lawyer tells me to do.' Ms Innes asked if he had physically disciplined any pupils; physically assaulted any pupils, or sexually assaulted any pupils – all of which Evan denied. She said: 'We know about the convictions and they did not involve any children attending Ovenstone. Did you commit any similar offences against any child at Ovenstone?' Evan said: 'No.' Ms Innes said: 'Some of the offences in respect of which you were convicted took place at the time you were teaching, and in one case on the premises. How was it you were able to commit the offences and not be detected?' Evan said: 'No comment on that.' Ms Innes added: 'How was it you were able to commit those offences at Ovenstone and it not be detected?' Evan said: 'Quite simply because it never happened.' He described pupils as 'fragile' and 'castigated', the inquiry heard. Evan denied any awareness of staff abusing pupils, or peer group abuse, but said that there was a lack of training on child protection. He said: 'If children were being bullied we cut that off very quickly, because these children were fragile in many ways.' Ms Innes said: 'Do you have any comment on lessons as to how to better protect children in the future?' Evan said: 'I would say there's an ongoing need for closer inspection, ongoing oversight as to what is going on in residential settings. 'It's a very intimate setting as you're there 24 hours a day. There needs to be an ongoing oversight into residential settings, both council and private, and it needs to be quite rigorous.' He added: 'The six years I spent at Ovenstone were the happiest of my life. We built a playground; the kids developed emotionally and physically. I look back on it with fond memories. I've still got kids who are in touch with me.' Lady Smith said: 'We are all doing the best we can in the interests of children who for one reason or another have to be in residential care.' The inquiry continues.

Gruesome picture exposes horrific act against helpless pelican - as authorities launch desperate search
A pelican 'with the most hideous of injuries' has evaded wildlife volunteers trying to save its life. The Wildlife Welfare Organisation SA Inc (WWO) sent volunteers to Meningie, in the state's southeast, after members of the public reported the bird on Sunday. Somehow still alive, the pelican was spotted perched next to another pelican on the edge of a lake with an arrow lodged through its head. Volunteers Bridgette and Scott searched for more than two hours but ultimately failed to find the bird. Instead the WWO asked others to keep an eye out for it as it was not able to afford to send any volunteers out for a second trip to find it. 'WWO are still on alert in case it is spotted again,' a spokesperson wrote in a statement. 'Our resources are stretched to the limit, as most of the time it's a whole day round trip for our rescue teams.' The WWO reported that the bird was attacked to Crimestoppers and has said it will remain vigilant for any more news regarding its whereabouts. After their unsuccessful trip to Meningie, Bridgette and Scott travelled 34 kilometres northwest to Narrung in an effort to help more injured birds. There they 'successfully apprehended' a different pelican with a fishing hook imbedded in its foot joint. 'This pelican was in a very debilitated state on arrival and today was assessed by Dr Erik and the SKER team. X-rays showed a serious bone infection in the joint,' the animal welfare group's statement said. Despite the infection and the hook having been imbedded in the bones the group said Dr Erik was able to remove it successfully. 'Peace at last for this poor bird,' the WWO wrote. Other birds to have evaded capture around the area were a pelican spotted in Cadell with a hole in its pouch that caused fish to fall out and another at Waikerie with a fractured lower beak that cannot be used to eat. 'Our hearts break for all of these poor birds, and these are only the ones that get reported.' Anyone who manages to spot any of these birds has been encouraged to contact the WWO regarding their whereabouts.

Calderdale child sex abuse investigators make 16 arrests
Sixteen people have been arrested as part of an investigation into historical child sex abuse in Yorkshire Police said 15 men and a woman, aged between 39 and 73, were detained in Halifax, Dewsbury, Oldham, Manchester and offences were reported to have taken place in the Calderdale area between 2000 and 2004 and involved two female victims.A force spokesperson said all of the suspects had been interviewed and either released under investigation or bailed pending further inquiries. Det Ch Insp Claire Smith urged anyone who had been a victim of sexual abuse, regardless of how long ago, to report it to the police. "Please be assured that you will be listened to, taken seriously and supported by professionals with experience of dealing with these kinds of offences," she added.
