Former Indiana Fever Star Spotted at WNBA Game After Being Released
After going 20-20 last year, the Indiana Fever made multiple additions this offseason that led people to tag them as legitimate championship contenders coming into this season.

One of those additions was DeWanna Bonner, a veteran wing who has made the WNBA All-Star team six times, including in both of the previous seasons. It was expected that she would add some firepower off the bench for Indiana.
But she struggled in nine games with Indiana, and she was waived on June 25. On Monday, she was reportedly seen attending a Phoenix Mercury game while sitting next to Mercury general manager Nick U'Ren.
A return to Phoenix would perhaps be fitting, as Bonner played there from 2009 to 2019. The team took her with the No. 5 pick in the 2009 draft, and she was named the Sixth Woman of the Year in each of her first three seasons.

The Mercury came into Monday with the WNBA's second-best record at 12-6. While they're fifth in both points per game and offensive rating, they could use some more scoring from their reserves.
Bonner averaged 15.0 points a game last season, but so far this season, she's at just 7.1 points in 21.3 minutes a game while shooting 34.5% from the field. She started three games for the Fever when they were hit by injuries — in particular, the injuries that star guard Caitlin Clark has dealt with.

Erik Spoelstra Bluntly Calls Out Heat Big Man: "He Has To Get Better With The Professionalism"
Erik Spoelstra Bluntly Calls Out Heat Big Man: "He Has To Get Better With The Professionalism" originally appeared on Fadeaway World. Kel'el Ware had a promising rookie season with the Miami Heat, but head coach Erik Spoelstra isn't too pleased with what he is seeing from the big man lately. Spoelstra spoke to the media after practice on Saturday and made it crystal clear that he wants Ware to improve his professionalism. Advertisement 'There's layers to this with Kel'el,' Spoelstra said. 'A big part of this is he has to really embrace and improve his professionalism, his consistency, his approach every single day. He has to get better with that. It's learning how to become a pro. I understand it. He was 20 last year, and he's 21. "We have bigger expectations," Spoelstra continued. "It's not your normal growth and growing pains of a young player learning how to become a pro. But that's what this summer is about: Learning how to become a pro, learning how to be consistent every single day. The talent is there. "The professionalism and consistency has to improve, and it is," Spoelstra added. "Our standards are not going to change, and our expectations and how fast we want that to improve for him are not going to change. But he has to get better at it, he has to take ownership of it, and the other stuff will come along with that." Spoelstra revealed Ware, the 15th pick of the 2024 NBA Draft, has been working with assistant coach Malik Allen and is getting stronger and has put on weight. The 21-year-old is more equipped now to handle the physicality that comes with playing at that center spot in the NBA, but his head coach wants to see more out of him. Advertisement 'We feel like also giving him the structure to grow and embrace becoming a pro," Spoelstra stated. "Learning how to be a professional every single day, being early, having a great energy, and countenance every day. How you do anything is how you do everything. He's taken some steps, but he's got to get better. He has to get better with the professionalism.' Ware averaged 9.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.6 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game for the Heat as a rookie in 2024-25. He was named to the All-Rookie Second Team, and the front office loved what they saw from the big man. The Heat were so high on Ware after that rookie season that they reportedly refused to include him in trade packages for Kevin Durant. When asked about the team's stance, Ware stated he was keen to show they were right to believe in him. It's quite alarming, then, that Spoelstra felt the need to call out the big man in this manner. Ware has struggled during the summer league so far, averaging 12.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting 39.4 percent from the field. He hasn't put in a lot of effort, and that low motor is concerning. Advertisement Ware was asked about Spoelstra's comments on Saturday, and he wasn't taking them personally. 'I mean, I'm a young player still,' Ware said. 'Getting into it, learning more about it, and it's all good.' It will be interesting to see if Spoelstra's comments light a fire under Ware. The Heat need more from their young big man as they look to bounce back from a disappointing 2024-25 season. They finished with a poor 37-45 record last season and were swept in the first round of the playoffs by the Cleveland Cavaliers. "They Did Not Make A Mistake": Kel'el Ware Wants To Repay Miami Heat For Not Trading Him To Get Kevin Durant
"They Did Not Make A Mistake": Kel'el Ware Wants To Repay Miami Heat For Not Trading Him To Get Kevin Durant originally appeared on Fadeaway World. The Kevin Durant trade saga finally came to an end after the Rockets acquired him from the Suns in a blockbuster move. Before the trade, the Heat were among the frontrunners to potentially trade for Kevin Durant. But according to reports, all their negotiations broke down when the Heat refused to include their star sophomore center, Kel'el Ware, in any trade packages for Durant. Advertisement Now, days after the Durant trade has gone through with the Rockets, the Heat star rookie from last season, Ware, broke his silence on the team's refusal to trade him and show faith in him. 'It made me feel the Heat wanted me and they want to see how far I can get in the future and see how my development goes,' said Ware ahead of the Heat's Summer League games. 'That makes me want to show them what I can do and how far I can go. They see the potential in me, and they see what I can be. So my main goal is to just sort of repay that they didn't make a mistake.' When further asked about his initial reaction to finding out that the Suns were demanding him, and the Heat refused to fulfill their wishes, he gave a humble response. Advertisement 'I didn't really see too much of it,' Ware said. 'It was one of the things I was like, if it happens, it happens. If not, it doesn't. You've got to think the Heat didn't want to give me up, but that means the other team wanted me. I didn't really pay no mind to it.' Kel'el Ware has only played his rookie season so far for the Heat, where he averaged 9.3 points and 7.4 rebounds in the regular season. The Suns likely felt that only Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo were untouchable in that trade negotiation, but the Heat seemed to reassure their faith in the 21-year-old center and ensured that he has a long-term future with the Heat and hence, untouchable in that trade discussion. The Heat have officially begun their rebuild around Tyler Herro after trading away Jimmy Butler last season. The franchise seems to view Ware as a long-term piece alongside Herro in their future. The Heat are coming off an early first-round exit after a 4-0 sweep against the Cavaliers in the Playoffs. Yet, most of it can be credited to the fact that they traded away their franchise player in the middle of last season and now need to build their strategies around letting Herro run the offense. As a 7'0" center, Kel'el Ware is an athletic, rim-protecting big with a strong scoring touch. He is renowned for his ability to finish plays near the rim, his versatility in the post, and his dynamic scoring from mid-range. Ware is very good at blocking shots and guarding the paint on defense. The Heat could use a player like him as a pivotal asset to the team for a long time if he stays consistent and healthy.
