FORMER Open champion Shane Lowry gave a prickly response to a question about his drinking.
Lowry, 38, won the Claret Jug at Royal Portrush in 2019 and celebrated in style with selfies of him hitting the nightspots of Dublin.

The Irishman is back in Portrush for this week's Open Championship, and was immediately reminded of his boozy celebrations six years ago.
'That's an interesting first question, isn't it? We're here to talk about golf and all anybody wants to talk about is drinking,' the Ryder Cup star said.
Rewind to 2019 and Lowry gave the world an exhibition on how to celebrate a sporting triumph with a week-long party.
He also shared plenty of images on Instagram of his party to toast his victory at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in 2022 when he was joined by pop star and avid golf fan Niall Horan.
It's an image that Lowry is keen to downplay these days… although needless to say he would probably do it all again should he triumph this weekend back at his favourite course.
Lowry said: Golf's a funny game where you lose more than you win, so when you win you need to enjoy those victories.
"I'll let people believe what they want to believe (about my drinking). The people close to me know what I'm like.
'I do enjoy it from time to time but I know when I need to put my head down.
"You can't be at the top of any sport unless you apply yourself."

Lowry admitted that he failed to spot the giant mural celebrating his Open win - even though it is about 25 feet high!
The painting of Lowry raising the Claret Jug at Portrush covers the entire side of a house, and is just around the corner from the course.
But when he made his first trip back to the scene of his greatest triumph, just before the Irish Open last September, Lowry and his team forgot to make the small detour.
He said: 'I'll be completely honest, we were in a rush leaving Portrush, and we totally forgot about going in to see it!
'I swear to God, we were ten miles down the road, and we suddenly realised we didn't get a picture of me standing in front of it, which we'd fully intended to do.
'By then it was too late to turn back, because we were on our way to the Irish Open at County Down. But I've seen it since, and I think it's pretty cool what they did there.
'People keep sending me pictures standing beside it - some of them I can't say what they're doing in it!

"I've done something special in my life, and they've acknowledged that, and I think that's pretty cool too.'
Lowry is currently 18th in the world rankings and so far this season has finished tied for 42nd at The Masters, and missed the cut at the US Open and the PGA Championship.
He admits he has struggled to work out why it all clicked at The Open in 2019 and why he has been unable to repeat the feat since.
Lowry said: "I've spent six years trying to work that out. My results were really good going into it.
'I was playing solid golf, then I came to a place I knew and loved. It all clicked. I was playing some of the best golf of my life.
'A few people close to me have said they knew I was ready - I wish they'd told me because I didn't think it.
'I was quite up-tight about it but that's just because you want to play so well. You never really know why. It just happened and I count myself quite lucky.'
Lowry said the key could be playing poorly in the practice rounds, so his expectations are lowered and his focussed sharpened.
He said: 'Here in 2019, I had a meltdown because I felt like I wasn't going to play well but that focuses me.
'If I get my complacency away and my expectations down, I'm at my best. I played well the last two days so that's not good.
"I just need to play s**t for a few days and everything will be alright.'

Defending Open champion Xander Schauffele admits it was humbling to see the 'perfect storm' which brought him two majors in three months last summer disappear. A year ago the 31-year-old added the Claret Jug to his US PGA title in a stellar season which also brought 13 other top-10 finishes. However, a rib injury in December restricted him to just one appearance in the first three months of this year and any hope he had of continuing his momentum was lost. 'Going from on top of the moon to, you know, knocked off completely, it's a humbling thing for sure,' Schauffele told the PA news agency at an event for sponsors Callaway in Portrush's famous Harbour Bar. 'Winning my first major, getting the monkey off my back, came at a perfect time – if you want to, call it a perfect storm. 'Feeling completely free and playing unbelievable golf, it's a pretty dangerous thing so I felt like I was riding that wave. 'So I'm just trying to piece my way back, gain a little bit of confidence each and every week with each and every shot to be honest.' His confidence received a boost with only his second top-10 finish in 12 events at last week's Scottish Open. Performing well on a links course was ideal preparation for the defence of the Claret Jug he won at Troon, but the American does not really view it in that manner. 'It's a strange thing to defend when the venue changes. When I handed over the Claret Jug on Monday morning it felt like a defence, but when I'm on the property I'm not remembering the shots I hit when I won,' added Schauffele. 'I'm trying to relearn the course, learn how far the ball's going, what the winds are doing, what bunkers you can and can't hit it in. So it's a weird thing.' What does not change, however, is the fact he has two majors under his belt to give him valuable experience. He said: 'I don't think it hurts. I think it's one of those things where, if I can get myself in a position, I've done it twice now. There'll be a pack of guys who have done it more than that and then there'll be a pack of guys who've never done it. 'So it'll give me a slight advantage in that moment, but we're far away from that and I'm trying to focus on some small things to start. 'My advantage will be if I can put myself in a good position come the weekend.'

Jon Rahm was speaking to the media this morning and, when asked about his fellow LIV golfer McKibbin, the 2021 US Open and 2023 Masters champion explained why he's 'jealous' of the 22-year-old. He said: "Tom McKibbin should be really looking forward to this week, being a member here and being from Northern Ireland. He's a fantastic young man. For a 24-year-old to be as calm and collected as he is is quite phenomenal. He's quiet by nature, but even in competition when things go wrong, he stays quite calm, and it's just remarkable and an incredible gift to have for a young player. I don't think I can relate to that whatsoever, so I'm a little bit jealous of that. I think it's going to serve him very well in the long run. "I think he's obviously internally processing the same emotions that all of us are processing, but outwardly he stays really, really calm, and that helps him quite a bit, on top of having a fantastic golf swing. All they need to do here is get it sent out straight and let the hill take it down to the green. Avoiding the bunkers is easier said than done, and two of the four drives that came over the hill ended up in the green side trap. There are worse places for these guys to be. This is a great place for fans to watch as the green backs on to the par three 13th. So if you're coming down this week, take my tip to get a grand stand spot here for a bit. Today 09:14 AM Gareth Hanna Yellow weather warning issued Not the news the fans want to hear as the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms between 11am and 5pm today. The warning impacts all of NI and the Met Office have said the storms "could produce 15-20 mm of rain in less than an hour, with a few spots seeing 30-40 mm in a few hours. Isolated hail and lightning strikes will be additional hazards." It could certainly cause problems not just here but across NI as the Met Office says driving conditions and public transport could be impacted, flooding of some homes and businesses is possible along with loss of power. 'Claret Jug is most special one'
It has been 37 years since a Spaniard won The Open - back in 1988 when the late Seve Ballesteros claimed his third Rahm is well aware. He's had three top-10s in his past four Opens and warmed up for this week with a runner-up finish at last week's LIV golf event in Andalucia, in his home country."The Open Championship is the most prestigious event you can win in golf," stated the 2021 US Open and 2023 Masters champion. "For my understanding of the game and the history, the Claret Jug is the most special one. "There's an order to it too because it changes venues, so if you can win it in St Andrews, I don't think anything in golf can come close to that. "It's the home of golf. Golf started in this part of the world. It's the oldest championship we have, and that's what makes it so special - the type of golf we play, the links courses where in theory it is meant to be played, the elements, the weather, it's quite unique. I don't think there's a word to describe it, but all together it's what makes it so special."
