Dennis Quaid shares update on 17-year-old daughter working at Texas camp during deadly floods
The 71-year-old actor told Fox News Digital Friday that Zoe's camp is many miles north of Kerrville, Texas, which was hit by the catastrophic overflooding of the Guadalupe River.
'The Hill County of Texas is a magical place, especially for children going to camp there,' the Texas native said. 'It's a cherished memory you carry with you all your life. My daughter was actually a few miles away from [Camp] Mystic, further north. Thankfully, their camp was OK.'
At Camp Mystic, an all-girls summer camp situated on the banks of the Guadalupe River, at least 27 children and staff members died after the floods. The death toll due to the disaster stands at 121, while 173 people are still missing.
Quaid also said that on the night that the floods began, he tried to get in touch with his daughter, but didn't hear back from her right away.
'I heard about this as I was going to bed that night,' The Parent Trap star explained to the outlet. 'And I tried to call her because I knew she was up there. I knew it wasn't near where the floods were, but I wasn't able to talk to her till the next day.'
He confessed that he 'didn't really get a lot of sleep' on the night he was waiting for Zoe to call him back. Still, his daughter and others at her camp are 'relatively safe up there.'
Zoe also has a twin brother, Thomas. The two are Quaid's only children with his ex-wife, Kimberly Buffington. Quaid shares his 33-year-old son, actor Jack Quaid, with his ex-wife Meg Ryan.
In 2020, two years after he divorced Buffington, The Substance star got remarried to his wife, Laura Savoie.
During his interview with Fox News Digital, Quaid sent his condolences to his friend, Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, who lost a nine-year-old family member, Janie Hunt, in the Texas floods.
'I can't imagine how that would … how devastating that would be,' he said. 'You think of those kids that night, and it just chills my heart. Do a lot of praying because there's a lot of people that need to be prayed for.'
Kerr County remains the center of the disaster after the Guadalupe River overflowed on July 4.
Crews are searching mounds of debris along an eight-mile stretch of the Guadalupe River, often finding cars and RVs buried in the wreckage. Search and rescue efforts are expected to continue for several weeks, said Fredericksburg Fire Chief Lynn Bizzell.
Several of the cabins at Camp Mystic were also built on 'extremely hazardous' floodways where the river's water moves at its highest velocity and depth, according to an analysis by The New York Times. Two days before the deadly floods, the camp reportedly passed its annual state safety inspection and had a written disaster plan in place.

Richard Simmons' longtime housekeeper denies ‘kidnapping' him, says he was happy in final years
Richard Simmons' longtime housekeeper and companion Teresa Reveles is speaking out about the late fitness guru's final years. In a candid conversation – her first broadcast interview – Reveles told the 'Today' show about the unique nature of their relationship, and claimed that he was incredibly happy in the years before his death on July 13, 2024. She began working for Simmons decades ago, in 1988, and while some rumors have claimed that she was to blame for his disappearance from the spotlight in his later years, she denied it. When host Liz Kreutz asked about speculation that she'd 'kidnapped' him, she laughed and replied, 'No, I think he kidnapped me!' While she said their relationship wasn't sexual, she did admit they were very close. 'He (fell) in love with me right away, that he says, 'No, you're never going to leave me,'' she explained. She said that to her, he was 'like a brother … like my father, my friend, my boyfriend, my everything.' 5 Richard Simmons with his longtime housekeeper and companion Teresa Reveles in 2017. Facebook / Teresa Reveles Reveles insisted that she and Simmons weren't romantic partners, and said that if anyone was confused by the unconventional relationship she shared with him, 'It's their problem. We were very happy, and the last ten years was the most happy years.' When asked about Simmons' sexual orientation, which he never publicly disclosed, she refused to answer, but when she was asked if she ever knew about any romantic partners he had, she said, 'Me. He never love anybody like me.' She added, 'Well, he wasn't my lover, not sexually, but he kissed me all the time.' 5 Richard Simmons in 2017. He died on July 13, 2024 at age 76. Facebook / Teresa Reveles As for how secluded Simmons became in the years leading up to his death, she said, 'He was not happy that he was getting old, OK? He says, 'No, I want people to remember me the way I was.' You know … full of life.' Reveles was the one who found Simmons after he died. She said that was a 'crazy, sad day,' but that he had been 'very, very happy.' 'I never saw Richard, in 36 years, unhappy, or mean, or upset,' she said. In a message to Fox News Digital, Tom Estey, Simmons' longtime friend, said, 'Let's CELEBRATE Richard – the human being. It's nearly his Birthday. I worked with him for 30 plus years, and more importantly, we were close friends even longer. I choose to celebrate these milestones.' On July 11, 2024, Simmons suffered a fall and spent the following day in bed. On the morning of July 13, Simmons was found unresponsive on his bedroom floor. Authorities were called, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The fitness instructor and TV icon died as a result of blunt traumatic injuries, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office announced two months later. The 76-year-old's manner of death was ruled as an accident. Arteriosclerotic cardiovascular was listed as a contributing factor. At the time, Reveles told People, 'When I saw him, he looked peaceful.' 5 Richard Simmons speaks to an audience before a summer fashion show at Grand Central Terminal in New York City on June 2, 2006. I had a heart attack a few years ago, and my hands did the same.' The day before he died, Reveles said Simmons' leg was hurting from a fall the previous day. Simmons passed away one day after his birthday, July 12. She told him, 'Let's go to the hospital. Maybe you broke your leg.' Simmons protested, 'No, Teresa, not on my birthday. Why [don't we] wait, and we do it in the morning?' 'But in the morning, it was too late,' Reveles said. Los Angeles Police Department officials confirmed to Fox News Digital at the time that there was 'no foul play' suspected in his death. Fox News Digital's Stephanie Nolasco and Tracy Wright contributed to this report.

Astrologers Predict the 'Love Island USA' Season 7 Winner
The current season of Love Island USA has been the most unpredictable one yet. We've seen truly random pairings, shocking Islander dumpings, even more shocking Islander returns, and a couple of viral crash-outs. So, based on how erratic this show's been thus far, it's tricky to guess what the outcome of Sunday's finale will look like. But we can try to predict the results based on a higher power—astrology. All season long, astrologers online, like Zoe, the Astrology Island Instagram admin, and Audrey, the mind behind the Not That Cosmic account on TikTok, have been working to make some sense of this wild show, mainly by tracking planetary transits and the Islanders' zodiac sign compatibility. And it's a pretty enlightening practice. Islanders' birth charts can explain a lot of the behaviors we see play out in the villa. "A big part of learning astrology is by simply watching people exist and seeing how those dynamics show up," says Audrey. "For example, Amaya most likely has a Sagittarius Mercury (the planet that deals with communication and logic). It's a fire sign, and she's seen as the 'loud and dramatic' one of the bunch, when she is rather just one of the only fiery people amongst a mainly earthy crowd." "The most common Mars sign among the cast this season was Sagittarius, a placement that values freedom, exploration, and movement," says Zoe. "This could explain why the Islanders wanted to stay free to explore rather than rush into locking down their couples, as they have in previous seasons." The widespread hesitation to close things off this season could also be attributed to a generational planet. "This might be the first season where all the islanders have their Pluto in Sagittarius. [Editor's note: This is a generational placement, so anyone born from late 1995 to early 2008 has it.] This could point to a generational shift in how Gen Z approaches dating with more flexibility and open-mindedness." Given their expertise in this space, we tapped Zoe and Audrey for an official pre-finale forecast, plus a little info on which couples are the most compatible astrologically. If you're counting down the minutes until Sunday night and are relying on Nicolandria TikTok edits to sustain your sanity, this is for you. Do you have Leo anywhere in your birth chart? If so, I recommend you start preparing your application for season 8 now. "Leos, 100 percent do the best on this show," says Audrey. They naturally attract the spotlight just by being themselves. Ace is a triple Leo. Leah and Rob from season 6 are also triple Leos. It's just written in the stars for them!" "I've also noticed that Geminis and Cancers do fairly well," she notes. "This makes sense given the series normally runs from June through August, which is when the Sun is in those signs. It's literally their time to shine! But honorable mention to Libra as well, since Libra rules over relationships." Zoe agrees. "Libras and Libra placements naturally seek partnerships, so a show all about finding a partner puts them in their element. They're also huge charmers, which can work to their advantage when dating." There was a lot of strong connection potential for our dearly departed Jeremiah (Taurus) this season. "I think Clarke would be a good match for Jeremiah, so it would have been interesting to see what would have happened if they'd met at Casa Amor," Zoe notes. "I would've loved seeing him chat to Chelley (Virgo) and Belle-A (Leo)," says Audrey. "I also would've loved to see Olandria (Gemini) and Jalen (Scorpio) pursue their relationship longer, or see him try to pursue Huda (Virgo)." Audrey says that without everyone's exact birth times, this could be tough to determine based on the current astrological transits. "Uranus, the planet of rebellion and chaos, has also just switched signs, which makes everything even more unpredictable. However, my bet would be on Chelley and Ace," she says. She also considers these two the most compatible. "They both have Virgo Mercuries and Libra Venuses. This shows that they communicate similarly and also have similar love languages, values, and aesthetics. Their Libra Venuses also pair well with each other's Moons (Chelley with Gemini, Ace with Leo), which helps them to feel emotionally connected and cared for by each other." Zoe clocked Chelley and Ace's strong connection, too. "They are also very compatible and have shown their loyalty to each other since day one," she says. But based on compatibility, she also foresees a potential Amaya Papaya/Bryan victory. "They found each other in such an unexpected way, but it really works. Their Sun signs get along so well with Amaya being a Scorpio and Bryan being a Capricorn, and their Mercury signs are compatible too."
