Gascon, the first trans woman to be nominated for a Best Actress in Oscar, had earlier faced backlash over resurfaced tweets containing anti-Islam and racist remarks, and later she apologised for her past actions and expressed her commitment to learning and growth.
Gascon, who was on track to make history as the first openly transgender actress to win an Academy Award, saw her chances dashed after journalist Sarah Hagi uncovered her questionable tweets from 2016.
The posts, which included derogatory comments about Islam, George Floyd, and the LGBTQ community, sparked widespread outrage and led to a backlash against Gascon.
On talking about her possibility of returning to the US, she said in Spanish, which was later translated to, "I'm looking forward to it. The question is whether, when I get to the United States, everything will be okay."
She continued, alluding to President Trump's executive orders that targeted transgender, nonbinary and intersex people, "I hope so, but if they don't let me in or they don't let me work because they consider that I am not a sufficiently qualified person or they want to discriminate against me because of my sexuality, then it will be very difficult," as per The Hollywood Reporter.
"But I hope so. I'm looking forward to doing millions of things in the United States because I think it's a wonderful country full of something that we have all wished for in this world, which is freedom, and we are losing it. We are losing it," she added, as per the outlet.
She also shared how 'Emilia Perez' has changed her life, saying, "Well, it has changed radically because it was a film that, for me, is already part of the history of cinema and that is going to be a cult film. Obviously, that brings with it an implicit responsibility, especially after everything that has happened around the film and around trans people."
"I think the moment takes on greater relevance," she added, "and we are in a very complicated and difficult time in which I sincerely feel like one of the first victims of all this hate."
She also opened up about her upcoming projects including, an Italian film The Life Lift where she plays a psychiatrist who embodies "the devil and god." She has another film in Argentina, one in Spain, and a French film about a blues singer attempting to adopt a girl from a refugee camp, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, also proved that for enemies and terrorists targeting India, there is no safe haven, PM Modi said in his address at an event here to honour the Tamil emperor Rajendra Chola-I. The event marks the birth anniversary of the Rajendra Chola-I which is celebrated as the 'Aadi Thiruvathirai' (the birth star of the king is Thiruvathirai in the Tamil month of Aadi) festival. Also, it commemorates 1,000 years of Rajendra Chola's legendary maritime expedition to South East Asia and the commencement of the construction of the Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple, a magnificent example of Chola architecture. 'The world saw how India responds if someone attacks its security and sovereignty,' he said about the military strikes at chosen targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7. Further, he said: 'Operation Sindoor proved that for enemies of India, for terrorists, there is no safe haven. When I came here from the helipad, the 3-4 km distance suddenly became a roadshow, and everyone was praising Op Sindoor. It has created a new awakening, a new self-confidence across the country. The world has to realise India's strength.' Modi further said the names of emperors Raja Raja Chola, and his son Rajendra Chola-I are synonymous with India's identity and pride and announced that grand statues would be built for them in Tamil Nadu. These statues will be 'modern pillars of our historic awakening.' The honour for the iconic Tamil kings follows Modi's several Tamil-centric initiatives including the Kashi Tamil Sangamam and multi-language and braille translations of Thirukkural, Manimekalai and other classic Tamil literature. 'The Chola emperors had woven India into a thread of cultural unity. Today, our government is carrying forward the same vision of the Chola era. Through initiatives like the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam and the Saurashtra-Tamil Sangamam, we are strengthening these centuries-old bonds of unity,' the PM said. Further, Modi said several people spoke about UK's Magna Carta while commenting on democracy. However, the Chola-era 'Kudavolai system' predated it by centuries, he said. Clearly, the prime minister continued with his Tamil pitch by invoking the rich legacy of Chola kings and their patronage of Saivite spiritualism. The PM said: 'Our Shaivite tradition has played a vital role in shaping India's cultural identity. The Chola emperors were key architects of this legacy. Even today, Tamil Nadu remains one of the most significant centres where this living tradition continues to thrive.' Amid chants of Vedic and Saivite Thirumurai, Modi prayed at the Lord Shiva temple here, built by Rajendra Chola-I to mark his victories and the founding of a new city Gangaikonda Cholapuram. Meanwhile, the discussion on Operation Sindoor is expected to take place on Tuesday (July 29), and the Defence Minister and the EAM could participate in the discussion along with the PM. Opposition In Parliament Opposition parties have been demanding a discussion on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor and have sought the government's clarification over US President Donald Trump's repeated claims that he brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. The Opposition parties had been demanding PM Modi's presence during the debate. Since the Prime Minister travelled abroad on a two-nation visit this week, the discussion has been scheduled for next week. Apart from this, according to ANI, the floor leaders of the INDIA bloc parties will meet on Monday at 10 am to discuss the strategy for the second week of the monsoon session.
