City of Windsor set to open its outdoor pools Saturday
Windsor's Executive Director of Parks, Recreation, and Facilities, James Chacko, said the outdoor pools will open on Saturday.
'There is a lot of work that's involved with opening the outdoor pools, not only getting them ready from a mechanical standpoint, but the biggest challenge is ensuring we have enough lifeguards,' he said.
'That was something that became critical during and after COVID. So many of our lifeguards are high school students.'
Chacko said there are still a few days of school left.
'School ends in the middle of the week; we bring in everyone for some additional practical training to get them ready and get them site-specific on the Thursday and Friday, and that allows for the pool to open at full capacity on Saturday, the 28th,' he said.
Chacko said the city will have a full complement of lifeguards to staff all the pools this summer.
'It was the challenge during COVID and post-COVID; there were so many people who weren't up on the training,' he said.
'That has now been rectified. We have a full complement onboard, and we look forward to having all of our outdoor pools, along with our indoor pools, along with Adventure Bay, continue to operate.'
The City of Windsor has five outdoor pools: Atkinson Pool at 2005 Riverside Drive West, Central Pool at 3301 Woodland Avenue, Mic Mac Pool at 1125 Prince Road, Remington Booster Pool at 701 Edinborough Street, and Riverside Centennial Pool at 6695 Wyandotte Street East.

Busy weekend expected for Windsor-Detroit Tunnel
A busy weekend is expected at the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel. Tunnel CEO Tal Czudner said whenever the Toronto Blue Jays are in Detroit, it's the busiest weekend for the tunnel. 'So instead of three questions, you might be asked five questions when you're going through.' He recommends having your documents ready, 'You want to get through as quick as you can. So get a Nexpress card, throw that in your window so that you pay toll quicker, then make sure you have your Nexus card or your passport ready when you're entering customs just so that way you can speed up the process. Thirty seconds for every person adds up to a big difference.' Czudner said if you're going to the game Friday, you should be at the tunnel by 4:30 p.m. to beat the tunnel traffic. He said if you're heading to the game on Saturday, be at the tunnel by 4 p.m., and for Sunday's game, be at the tunnel by 11:30 a.m. Czudner said after those times, the tunnel will start to back up. It's the first time they have been in the final four of a tournament since they met in the final of the 2021 U.S. Open, which Raducanu won in straight sets. Fernandez and Townsend had success as a doubles tandem during the 2023 season. While they did not win a title, they made it to the final of the French Open and the WTA 1000 Miami Open, as well as the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open.
