Emma Raducanu has opened up about leaving Carlos Alcaraz in suspense over their proposed US Open doubles partnership, although they share a long-standing friendship.
The British tennis sensation is poised to join forces with the consecutive Wimbledon men's champion at this year's US Open.
The duo promises to be a show-stopping entertainment for spectators, yet Raducanu disclosed that she made Alcaraz wait after he initially reached out to her.
Reflecting on the double act they'll soon form, the 22-year-old quipped: "Gotta keep them on their toes!"
She further remarked: "I mean, of course, I had to ask my team if they wanted me to play.
"But for me, when he asked me, I was going to say yes, I just had to kind of go through the formality of asking my coach, so I didn't just make the decision."

Raducanu and Alcaraz are set for a nostalgic coming together at the US Open, a nod to the early days of their friendship sparked nearly four years ago at the same event.
She recounted: "I've known him for years and actually in Wimbledon 2021 it was like kind of the first time I started getting to know him, and I had a good run there and then also again in the US Open in 2021.
"And I remember he was always playing the day before me and I was playing like the second day of the round. And I would see him win and then I would have motivation to win and get myself into that position too," reports the Mirror.
"And I remember he beat Stef [Tsitsipas] in the third round and it was like a big win, his breakout kind of win on a big stage and it was really cool to kind of, I guess, go through that tournament together and then I kept going through the US Open, but we were staying in touch for the whole time and yeah, it's nice."
Despite their divergent paths since that time, Raducanu added: "We have a good relationship still. He's obviously overtaken me a lot, but it's nice that we have that from a while ago."
Speaking about the significance of longstanding friendships, she said: "I think for all of us, we really kind of value those connections that we had from when we were young because when you become a bit more known or a bit more successful, you just find yourself reverting back to people you knew from a young age because you're like, that's a real genuine connection, because it becomes very busy and you have a lot more friends but the ones that you've known for a long time mean a lot more to you."

Raducanu is hopeful that her camaraderie with Alcaraz will spur her on to further success following her surprise victory at the 2021 US Open, where she clinched the women's singles title on her first attempt, a feat achieved by only one other player before her.
Yet since her stunning triumph, Raducanu has struggled to reach the same heights, failing to advance past the first round in her subsequent two attempts and missing out on the competition in 2023.

Alex de Minaur saves three match points before roaring back to win Washington title
Alex de Minaur has claimed his first title of the year, winning the Washington Open final at the second time of asking. The Australian men's No 1 fought gallantly to claim an enthralling contest in the US capital over fellow 26-year-old Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3), in just over three hours. A workman-like tiebreaker capped off a week full of positives, and 10th career title success, for De Minaur ahead of next month's US Open in New York, while Davidovich Fokina fell just short of claiming his first ATP Tour title. Seventh seed De Minaur, who lost in straight sets to Germany's Alexander Zverev in the 2018 Washington final, improved to a tour-leading 21 hard-court wins for the season by beating Frenchman Corentin Moutet in the semis. On Monday (AEST), Davidovich Fokina, the Spanish 12th seed, was broken early in the opening set but responded immediately for 2-2. He gained the advantage again in the 11th game before serving it out in 66 minutes. It lit a fire under the Australian player, who went up 3-0 in the second and broke again to take it to a third set. But he dropped serve for 3-1 in the decider, before saving three match points and breaking back when Davidovich Fokina was serving for the championship at 5-4. De Minaur went on to claim a breaker littered with unforced errors by his opponent. Kelsey Parker surrounds herself with family after loss of baby son in poignant snap
Podcast host Kelsey Parker has made a return to social media for the first time since announcing the devastating death of her third child as she takes a break away Kelsey Parker has surrounded herself with her family as she takes a much-needed trip away following the death of her third child. The Wanted star Tom Parker's widow sadly announced her third child was born stillborn last month. She shares her child with her partner Will Lindsay, and broke the devastating news on social media as she revealed they had a little boy named Phoenix. Since then, Kelsey has taken time away from social media and a break away from her day-to-day life. Marking her return to Instagram, Kelsey shared a family photo with Will and her two children with Tom, Aurelia, six, and Bodhi, four. They soaked up the sun in a hot location as they looked out at a stunning view together. The podcaster chose not to share where they have decided to take a break to, but said: "Exactly what we needed. Thank you @jet2 for making it so easy. X." Just last month, Kelsey shared the heartbreaking news of her son on her account. Her devastating tribute to her son included one simple heartbreaking caption: 'Phoenix Parker-Lindsay, you will forever be loved." She added a moving poem, entitled For Phoenix, Born Sleeping, Forever Loved. The poem read: 'The world grew quiet as you arrived, So loved, so longed for, yet not alive. Our precious boy, our angel light, Born with wings, took silent flight. 'We named you Phoenix, brave and bright. A soul of love, of warmth and light. Though we never heard you cry, You'll live in hearts that won't ask why. No breath you drew, no eyes to see, Still, you mean everything to me. You'll journey with us, softly near, In every sigh, in every tear.' Kelsey was flooded with support from her followers as well as celebrity pals, which she preempted with a message. In her post, she wrote: "Before I receive an influx of lovely messages and heartfelt wishes, I wanted to just say that I truly appreciate everything you are all going to say and share. "But with the news being so raw, I would really like to ensure that we as a family are given space and time to process this devastating and earth-shattering news. I love you all and thank you for your understanding and space. Love always, Kelsey, Will, and the Parker Family." Kelsey shares children Aurelia, five, and Bodhi, four, with The Wanted star Tom Parker, who tragically died from brain cancer in 2022 at the age of 33, four years after they married. She had opened up to the Mirror in January about her excitement at welcoming a third child into the family home which she now shares with tree surgeon Will, after finding love again last September. Confessing that the baby, which would have been Will's first child, was a "happy accident", Kelsey said she was gently preparing Aurelia and Bodhi for a new sibling. Will also told us: "I'm over the moon. This is something I've wanted for a long time. I couldn't be happier and I know Kelsey is going to be an amazing mum, as she already is."
