Sharm El-Sheikh Int'l Theatre Festival for Youth to honour actress Elham Shaheen - Stage & Street - Arts & Culture
The festival's management has also released the poster of the upcoming edition, scheduled to take place between 25 and 30 November.
The poster features Shaheen as its honorary artist.
The SITFY, which is held annually, is the first festival of its kind to be organized in Sinai.
The Sinai launch aims to provide opportunities for young theatre practitioners while decentralizing the artistic scene and reviving tourism in South Sinai.
The SITFY was founded and headed by Mazen El-Gharabawy, with Engy El-Bestawy as its artistic director.
Its 10th edition will also hold a special celebration for honouring late artist Samiha Ayoub, who passed away last June and was the festival's honorary president.
Elham Shaheen
Shaheen was born in Cairo in 1960 and graduated from the Institute of Theatrical Arts in 1982.
She started her career with the help of director Kamal Yassin, who gave her a role in his TV play, Hooreya men Al Marikh (Mermaid from Mars).
Her films include Al-Nemr wa Al-Ontha (The Tiger and The Woman, 1987); Bawabat Iblees (Satan's Gates, 1993); Afarit Al Asfalt (The Asphalt Demons, 1996); Wall of Heroism (1998); Mahrous, the Minister's Attaché (1999); I Love Cinema (2004), Bedoon Reqaba (Without Survilence, 2009); and Al Harami wa Al Abeet (The Thief and The Naive, 2013).
Her TV series include Ayam Al Mounira (Al Mounira Days, 1994), Wanis' Daily Life (1994), The Game (1999), Devil's Tunnel (2008), The Fall of the Caliphate (2010), Malika fee al-Manfa (Queen in the Exile, 2010), and Heatwave (2013).
Among Shaheen's latest films are Restart (2025), Mister Ex (2013), Hazr Tagaoul (Curfew, 2013), and TV series Hesbet Omry (Toil & Pursuit, 2025), Seed El-Nass (Master of the People, 2025), Alfrido (2025), and Be Tolooa Al-Rouh (Backbreaking, 2022).
Over the past few years, Shaheen has received several awards and recognitions.
In May 2024, she was appointed an honorary president of the second edition of the Eazees International Women's Theatre Festival.

A sneak peek at Mohamed Ramadan's new film Assad - Screens - Arts & Culture
Egyptian actor Mohamed Ramadan shared a few photos from the shooting location of his highly anticipated film Assad (Lion), set for release this year, on his Instagram account. Over the past weeks, Ramadan has also released other photos and videos presenting different scenes from the film. In Assad, Ramadan portrays Ali ibn Muhammad, who led the Zanj Rebellion, a major revolt against the Abbasid Caliphate (from 869 to 883). The film is directed and co-written by Mohamed Diab, a filmmaker also known for writing and directing 678 (2010), Eshtebak (Clash, 2016), among other works. Diab also directed episodes one, three, five, and six of Marvel Studios' TV mini-series Moon Knight and was the co-executive producer of the whole series. Although the date of the film's release has not been announced yet, the audience expected cinemas to show it during Eid Al-Adha in June. However, it was postponed, with some media sources pointing to December this year. The film creators clarified that the grand production requires extensive work to ensure the best results in terms of picture, sound, music, locations, visual effects, and other factors. The film features 70 actors, including 12 major stars and special guests from Egypt, Palestine, Lebanon, and Sudan. It also includes 50 supporting actors — some in single yet pivotal scenes. Grammy Winner Flaco Jiménez, Tejano Music Pioneer, Dies at 86
Rana Atef Flaco Jiménez, the Tejano music icon whose conjunto and Tex-Mex music got global acclaim, died at 86, his family confirmed on Friday. The family announced that he died on Thursday night in a statement shared on his official social media pages. 'It is with great sadness that we share tonight the loss of our father, Flaco Jimenez.
