Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant sets three national records in MBOR
The three records set were Malaysia's first pipe conveyor-type water treatment waste transport system, the longest pipe conveyor system for water treatment waste at 1.918 kilometres and the longest shaftless screw conveyor system at 46 metres.
Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB) chief executive officer Zulkiflee Omar described the three projects worth RM210 million as a transformative step for Malaysia's water sector.
'This was not just an ordinary infrastructure project, it represented significant engineering innovation focused on sustainable environmental governance,' he said at the handing over of the certificates of recognition from MBOR here today.
The LRA Langat 2 is capable of treating up to 1,130 million litres of water per day (MLD) and generating up to 400 tonnes of treatment waste daily, depending on the quality of raw water channelled from Sungai Semantan in Pahang through a 45-kilometre tunnel across the Titiwangsa Range to Hulu Langat.
According to Zulkiflee that conventional waste management had required up to 96 lorry trips daily, creating road safety hazards, significant carbon emissions and community disruption.
However, the new pipe conveyor system automatically transferred waste almost two kilometres to a dedicated landfill site near the Bunting Balance Pond, completely removing heavy vehicles from public roads.
'This system not only saves fuel and reduces carbon emissions, but also supports the country's commitment to sustainable climate change,' he said.
He noted that the system can transport 120 tonnes of waste hourly during its eight-hour daily operation, preventing more than 35,000 lorry trips annually, thereby enhancing safety, boosting operational efficiency, and strengthening environmental protection.
Zulkiflee also extended his gratitude to all stakeholders involved in the project's success, particularly recognising main contractor Salcon Engineering Berhad, financial consultants, government partners, and MBOR for the prestigious acknowledgement.
'This project proves that public facilities are also capable of producing innovative, responsible and world-class approaches,' he said.

The IPO is expected to raise RM27.3 million for the company which is based in Johor and established in 1986. A1 AK Koh manufactures and markets more than 340 processed food and beverage products, including snacks, noodles, seasonings, canned seafood, and ready-to-drink beverages. Post-listing, the company is expected to have a market capitalisation of RM210 million, translating to a valuation of approximately 18 times its latest earnings. Charging up green knowledge among kids
The campaign involved 30,000 pupils from 20 Klang Valley schools and the collection of more than 100,000 batteries for safe recycling. A GREEN campaign at school has been recognised for collecting the largest number of batteries for recycling in a single event. Panasonic Energy For Green Future School Recycling Campaign 2.0 involved more than 30,000 pupils from 20 primary schools across the Klang Valley. Their feat of donating more than 100,000 used batteries for safe recycling was recognised by Malaysia Book of Records during the grand finale at SJK (C) Yuk Chai, Petaling Jaya in Selangor. In a press statement, Panasonic said throughout the campaign, pupils participated in fun and educational activities, including a battery exchange programme and interactive workshops highlighting battery safety, pollution prevention and proper waste management. Adding to the excitement was Leo, Panasonic Energy's lively mascot who helped bring the effort's green message to life. The initiative included Panasonic introducing eco-bins at the schools to promote safe battery recycling and environmental awareness. The company said over 972kg of toxic waste was kept out of landfills, and more than 50% of the materials would be reused to produce new batteries, fertiliser and industrial products. If thrown away improperly, the chemicals can leak into the soil and water.' The collected batteries, he said, would be sent to local recycling facilities to be safely dismantled without burning or releasing pollutants. 'Through this campaign, we aim to raise long-term awareness about e-waste and responsible consumption,' he added. Green heroes and responsible citizens of tomorrow. Also present was Selangor Education Department student development sector deputy director Yusaini Salleh, who praised everyone involved in the initiative. 'This campaign teaches energy efficiency and encourages young Malaysians to be responsible and informed citizens,' he said. Farmers' incentives to be paid out by July 31
PUTRAJAYA: The government will ensure that all payments for the ploughing and harvesting incentives to farmers are completed by July 31, says Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu (pic). He said the total amount of the incentive was RM210, comprising RM160 for ploughing and RM50 for harvesting. He added that the matter had been discussed at the Cabinet Committee on National Food Security Policy (FSCC) Meeting 1/2025, chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on June 16. 'The meeting focused on strategic initiatives to strengthen the country's food security and boost the growth of the agriculture and agro-food sectors. 'Various other initiatives were also discussed, including strategies to increase the country's self-sufficiency rate (SSR) for beef and buffalo meat to ensure sustainability of the nation's food supply,' he said in a statement, Bernama reported. On June 11, the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry (KPKM) announced an increase in the ploughing incentive rate and introduced a harvesting incentive, providing total cash assistance of RM210 per hectare to padi farmers each season, benefiting around 130,000 farmers across the peninsula. Mohamad also said the government welcomed the development of the Malaysian Food Composition Database as a strategic component of the National Food Security Policy. He said the meeting had also agreed in principle to explore effective strategies to reduce dependence on grain corn imports to ensure the industry's sustainability and growth. 'In addition, the proposed amendment to the Protection of New Plant Varieties Act 2004 (Act 634) will be implemented to provide more comprehensive protection for new plant varieties.' Mohamad said policy planning would continue to be strengthened based on the findings of the 2024 Agricultural Census Interim Report for the agricultural sector's growth. He said that as part of efforts to modernise the agricultural sector, the strategic cooperation between KPKM and the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia will be enhanced with the introduction of the Remote Pilot Certificate of Competency – Agriculture Light syllabus for private unmanned aircraft systems.
