Charlton's bid for Japanese star is REJECTED - as Nathan Jones looks to strengthen his squad further ahead of Championship return
Fukuda, 24, who can play at right back or right wing back, plies his trade for J1 League side Kyoto Sanga.
Mail Sport understands that Nathan Jones' side wanted to take Fukuda on loan with an option to buy, but Kyoto are only open to a permanent exit.
Fukuda is known for his high energy and intensity, but his £800,000 release clause must be met in full if he is to depart. It is uncertain whether Charlton will return to the table with another bid.
The 24-year-old is uncapped by Japan and he has been told he needs to play in Europe if he is to work his way into their World Cup plans for next summer.
Fukuda has featured 86 times for Kyoto, who sit fourth in the J1 League, and if a deal does materialise he would join the trend of several other Japanese players who have made the move to the Championship over recent years.
This includes the likes of Ao Tanaka (Leeds), Tatsuhiro Sakamoto (Coventry) and Yu Hirakawa (Bristol City), with the trio having all impressed in the second tier previously.
Meanwhile, the Addicks' interest in the right sided defender comes after they had a bid rejected for Hibernian right back Lewis Miller over the weekend as Jones prepares his side for their first season in the Championship in five years.
Charlton, who beat Leyton Orient 1-0 in the League One play-off final in May, have already signed Sonny Carey, Thomas Kaminski, Isaac Olaofe, Amari'i Bell, Reece Burke, Joe Rankin-Costello and Rob Apter this summer.
They kick off their campaign with a home game against Watford at The Valley on August 9.

Will Norwich and Olympiacos give us a pre-season THRILLER? Championship club and Evangelos Marinakis' side are 10/1 to provide us with over 5.5 goals!
Norwich City are adding more continental flavour to their pre-season diet as they take on Greek champions Olympiacos in the Netherlands. Having beaten Northampton Town (not so continental) 3-1, then drawn 1-1 with Volendam and Zulte Waregem, Liam Manning's men now add some Champions League ilk to their schedule. The Championship side will hope to catch Evangelos Marinakis' club on an off day when they meet at 11am on Friday. Sky Bet are offering various odds for under/over a certain amount of goals in the game. If you reckon there will be 5.5 or more, then they cater to that fancy with a 10/1 offer. At the other end of the scale, if you think there will be fewer than 0.5 goals - which sounds like a 0-0 to you and me - then the odds are 14/1. For 3.5 goals or more, you're looking at 15/8, but if you're predicting under that, the odds will be 2/5. Sky Bet odds for Norwich vs Olympiacos - match over/under goals 0.5 goals - over 1/50, under 14/1 1.5 goals - over 1/5, under 10/3 2.5 goals - over 8/11, under 1/1 3.5 goals - over 15/8, under 2/5 4.5 - over 9/2, under 1/7 5.5 goals - over 10/1, under 1/25

THINK AGAIN! Rangers' first approach for £10million-rated winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is rejected by Crystal Palace
Rangers have had an initial approach for Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi turned down. Russell Martin wants the 22-year-old to become his eighth signing of this transfer window, with the Ibrox club proposing a year's loan with an option to buy. Palace, who rate the former England under 21 player in the £10million bracket, have rejected the opening offer. Manager Oliver Glasner is believed to be undecided as to whether he's willing to sanction losing the wide man. Rangers, however, are unlikely to give up their pursuit of the Londoner, who Martin feels can add a creative influence on the right flank. Former Chelsea youth Rak-Sakyi joined Palace six years ago and has played ten games for the first team. Farmed out to Charlton two years ago, he was loaned to Sheffield United last season and played 34 games in the Championship, scoring seven times. That productive spell caught the eye of Rangers' scouts, who are continuing a summer rebuild following the American takeover at Ibrox. Speaking after his team's 2-0 win over Panathinaikos in the first leg of their Champions League qualifier on Tuesday, Martin talked about the need for more new recruits before the transfer window closes. Rangers would like Rak-Sakyi to be one of those signings but, even if a deal is struck soon, he would not be eligible able to play in next week's second leg in Athens. So far this summer, Rangers have signed Max Aarons, Joe Rothwell, Nasser Djiga, Lyall Cameron, Djeidi Gassama, Emmanuel Fernandez and Thelo Aasgaard. Meanwhile, Ian Durrant hopes that Martin is able to hang on to Nico Raskin beyond the close of the window. Signed from Standard Liege in 2023, the 24-year-old has improved markedly over the past six months and might well attract a big money bid. Durrant understands that Rangers can't turn down bumper offers, but feels selling the player at this time would break up a promising partnership. 'Russell will outline that,' said the former midfielder. 'He wants his best players here, but sometimes money talks. 'I hope it doesn't, but that's the nature of the beast. 'He'll want to keep him, because he's wanting to get Raskin and Joe Rothwell together. The more they play, the better they'll get.'
