Nilüfer Yanya Announces New EP Dancing Shoes, Reveals New Song 'Where to Look': Stream
Nilüfer Yanya is back to announce a new EP, Dancing Shoes, set for release on July 2nd. She's also unveiled the new song 'Where to Look.'
Dancing Shoes follows Yanya's 2024 album, My Method Actor, which we deemed one of the best releases of the year. Comprised of four new tracks, Dancing Shoes was written and produced with Yanya's close collaborator Wilma Archer during and in between tour dates supporting My Method Actor. The EP also features 'Cold Heart,' which arrived last month.

Reprising her raw, spellbinding guitar work and considered attention to mood and atmosphere, 'Where to Look' has all the touchstones of Yanya's dynamic indie rock sound. The song really begins to lift off in the second chorus, where Yanya's guitar stumbles into a wall of fuzzy reverb and provides more power and emotion behind her croons. While the EP it's on is called Dancing Shoes, 'Where to Look' isn't exactly dancefloor-friendly, instead boasting a more introspective tone. Stream the track below.
Yanya has a busy 2025 ahead of her; in addition to a busy summer performing at festivals like Glastonbury and London's All Points East, she'll return to North America for a lengthy stretch of shows opening for Alex G. UK Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy Cools Attacks On BBC, Praising 'Big Strides' In Gripping Crises
UK culture secretary Lisa Nandy has reduced the temperature of her attacks on the BBC after the publication of two damning reports into misconduct allegations against Gregg Wallace and editorial failings on documentary, Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone. Nandy has been highly critical of the BBC in a series of unusual interventions this month, including raising concerns about the leadership of director-general Tim Davie and questioning why no one had been fired over the How to Survive a Warzone debacle. Following the Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone report, media regulator Ofcom has launched its own investigation into the documentary, produced by Hoyo Films. 'Having examined the BBC's findings, we are launching an investigation under our rule which states that factual programmes must not materially mislead the audience,' a spokesperson said. Danny Cohen, the BBC's former television chief, suggested that an editorial leader should be fired over the documentary. 'The serious journalistic failings of this documentary have severely damaged public trust in the BBC. This is not an isolated incident but part of a pattern of systemic bias in the BBC's coverage of the war,' he said. 'The BBC's failure to recognise this and take real action is a serious leadership failure. This looks like a classic case of 'deputy heads must roll' and that is nowhere near good enough. What's in Doechii's Bag? Emergency Heels, Instant Ramen, and Audre Lorde's Wisdom
It's not long after her defining Glastonbury headline performance that Vogue gets to catch up with Doechii and delve into her stuffed Louis Vuitton bag. 'Me and my team pushed ourselves harder than we ever have for that production and it came out (kiss) amazing,' she says. It's been a staccato-stepped, booked and busy year for the artis—from fashion weeks to her Met Gala debut and an international tour. Dressed in a sharp shouldered white blazer, glasses, and tie, Doechii gets down to the business of what's in her bag. The first thing to pop out of Doechii's LV? A small replica of a narrow Dutch canal-side house that she bought on a flight to the UK. She had been journaling recently about wanting more trinkets. 'I feel like it's a lost art,' she says. 'A lot of houses are into contemporary, minimalism, and we're losing the art of trinkets and items of memorabilia in the home.' The next item is, debatably, more practical—a pair of pointed, logo-stamped Prada heels. Emergencies, subways, bodegas: 'You have to have your Pradas,' she affirms. Out next is her ('heavy!') wallet and her grillz, custom made for the Met Gala 2025 to go with her impeccably tailored Louis Vuitton look, envisioned by Pharrell. The most grounding thing in Doechii's bag remains her journal. She's kept one since the fourth grade. 'I have to document my thoughts, and I have to have a release from my feelings,' she says. 'I've documented my entire coming of age experience and one day I want to make it into a book.' Her latest journal is a black leather embossed notebook where she's recently been writing poetry, as well as her thoughts, observations, and epiphanies from her mammoth tour schedule. While a lot of it is 'super raw, vulnerable writing,' she shares a small snippet: 'I have access to an unlimited supply,' she reads, 'reach out and take what you desire any time you like. God doesn't run out of blessings.' Also stashed in her bag is a book she's currently reading, the powerful 2017 collection of speeches, poems, and essays from the radical, generational author and poet Audre Lorde,Your Silence Will Not Protect You, released posthumously. 'The transformation of silence into language and action is an act of self revelation,' she reads from the book. That line, she says, 'encourages me to keep using my voice in my music and in my art, and when I have platforms, whether it be at award shows or whatever, I use my voice as much as possible to reach other Black women, the youth, to inspire people to make change and do things and say things and create things that benefit the collective.'
