"Has Rahul Gandhi Forgotten...": Minister's Jab Over Bihar Roll Revision
Union minister Pralhad Joshi hit back at the Congress today over the electoral roll revision in Bihar, saying the process of SIR (Special Intensive Revision) was started at the behest of Rahul Gandhi, who had written a letter about the discrepancies in the voter list.
In an exclusive interview with NDTV, Mr Joshi said, SIR has "happened many times before this and its process is the same as before".
"If there is any difference in the process at all, it is that of technology," he added.
"The Election Commission is doing it and those who are asking why the Election Commission is doing it -- has Rahul Gandhi forgotten that he himself wrote a letter saying there are mistakes in the voter list and they should be corrected? And now, when the Election Commission is correcting it, he is saying our voters will be stolen," Mr Joshi said.
"If work is done on his letter there is a problem. If it is not done, then there is a problem... these are the people who will oppose whatever you do," he added.
With six days to go for the final list, more than 41 lakh voters are risk of exclusion -- up from 35.6 lakh earlier this week - and the opposition parties in Bihar have been on the warpath over this, saying their supporters are being selectively left out.
On Saturday, Rashtriya Janata Dal's Tejashwi Yadav - an ally of the Congress -- wrote to leaders of 35 major parties across the country seeking their support.
"The ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar is a spectacle and a tragedy, disenfranchising large numbers of voters and shaking the very foundation of democracy... This is a clear indication of how an 'independent institution' like the Election Commission is bent on eroding public confidence in the integrity of our electoral process," he wrote.
The matter is expected to have ripples in the monsoon session of parliament which begins tomorrow.

The Election Commission must cancel the registration of Trinamool Congress as a political party for supporting such people. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee needs the support of Rohingyas and Bangladeshi infiltrators to win elections," BJP leader Adhikari said. State BJP President and Rajya Sabha member, Samik Bhattacharya, said that more than protecting the interest of the original Bengali-speaking Muslims in West Bengal, the Chief Minister is more interested in protecting the Bengali-speaking Muslim infiltrators from Bangladesh. "Bengali-speaking Indian Muslims in border areas of West Bengal are losing jobs to Bangladeshi Muslims, who have entered the country illegally. BJP's IT Cell Chief and the party's central observer for West Bengal, Amit Malviya, issued a statement where he claimed that the speech of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday was reflection of her fear that, if the special intensive revision (SIR) by the Election Commission is implemented in West Bengal properly, and free and fair elections are held, the Trinamool Congress will be defeated in 2026 state polls. "As usual, Mamata Banerjee is resorting to lies and fear mongering -- talking about "detention camps" and imaginary conspiracies. But the truth is this: She knows her reign of terror is nearing its end. And it is the curse of Bengal's people, especially its women, that will bring her down," Malviya's statement said. Senior CPI-M leader and the party's central committee member, Sujan Chakraborty, took a jibe at CM Mamata Banerjee for announcing a 'Bhasa Andolan' to fight against the BJP. "By calling her fight against the harassment of Bengali-speaking people as "Bhasa Andolan" (the Language Movement), Mamata Banerjee has reduced the importance of the actual Bhasa Andolan. Not every fight can be branded as the language movement," Chakraborty said. Another CPI-M Central Committee member, Minakshi Mukherjee, said that Mamata Banerjee herself is responsible for the harassment of Bengali-speaking people in the country, as a large number of people left Bengal as migrant workers during her tenure as Chief Minister. "Has the Trinamool Congress government done anything to protect the sanctity of the Bengali language and Bengali-speaking people? Migrant labourers from Bengal are being targeted in Assam and other states. Who is responsible for this situation? Why can't her government provide them with jobs? She cannot make people forget her government's failure to ensure a proper livelihood to Bengali-speaking people," Mukherjee added. State Congress Spokesperson, Soumya Aich Roy, said that Mamata Banerjee should first arrest the exodus of Bengali people from West Bengal due to lack of jobs and industries, before using Bengali sentiment to mislead the people. "Mamata Banerjee is trying to tap into the Bengali sentiment by bringing reference to 'Bhasa Andolan'. Instead of doing this, she must provide jobs to the people so that this migration stops," he added.

Revanth to make presentation on caste census in Delhi on July 24

Revanth Reddy will give a presentation on the caste census and BC reservations to all Congress MPs at Indira Bhavan in New Delhi on July 24, said Telangana Congress MPs convener and Nagarkurnool MP Mallu Ravi. Women SHGs-led businesses expand across diverse sectors : Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy
Minister for Revenue, Housing and Information & Public Relations Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said that empowering one crore women to become millionaires has been the top priority of the Congress government. He was addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone for the new bus stand at an estimated cost of Rs 5.50 crore under the Kakatiya Thermal Power Station (KTPP)'s CSR initiative in Chelpur of Jayashankar Bhupalpally district on Monday. IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu and others were present. Mr. Reddy said that special focus is being laid to foster the spirit of entrepreneurship among women through skill development and training to enable them to achieve financial independence. The women self-help groups (SHGs)-led businesses expanded manifold under the Congress government. Women SHGs are treading the path of financial independence by leasing out buses to the TGSRTC, running petrol bunks, paddy procurement centres, mahila canteens among other businesses across diverse sectors, he said. He added that the disbursement of interest-free loans to women SHGs and other financial inclusion initiatives are a testament to the Congress government's commitment to the economic empowerment of women. Earlier, the ministers inaugurated the new police station building in the mandal headquarters of Gori Kothapally and a skill development training centre under the aegis of the Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge (TASK) in Bhupalpally town.
