Clevan Thompson named head coach of the Savannah State men's basketball program
Thompson was appointed interim head coach on January 6th after former head coach Horace Broadnax retired midseason. Thompson now becomes the 12th head coach in the history of the program.
'We are pleased to officially announce Coach Thompson as the head coach of our men's basketball program,' Savannah State Director of Athletics Opio Mashariki said. 'He has been an integral part of the team's growth over the past couple of seasons and understands what it takes to build a winning culture. After leading the team to a championship last season, we are confident that he is the right person to lead our program forward.'
Thompson coached the Tigers to a 13-6 mark since being named the interim coach, including an unblemished 7-0 mark at home. His team clinched the 2025 SIAC Men's Basketball TournamentChampionship and a berth in the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament.
'I'm truly grateful for the opportunity to represent my alma mater, Savannah State University—a place that has played such a meaningful role in shaping the person I am today,' remarked Coach Thompson. 'It's an honor to give back to a community that has given so much to me.'
Thompson is a graduate of Savannah State with a bachelor's degree in computer informationsystems, Thompson has been a part of the SSU men's basketball program since the 2023-2024 season.
Savannah State University President Jermaine Whirl had this to say about the appointment:
'Coach Thompson exemplifies the excellence and leadership we strive for at Savannah State. His dedication to our students, his vision for the program, and his commitment to the values of our university make him an outstanding choice. We are proud to have one of our own leading the way.'
Prior to returning to SSU, Thompson spent nearly two decades as the head boys' basketball coach at nearby Bethesda Academy, where he led the Blazers to twelve Final Four Appearances and two state championships. His teams claimed the 2012 Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) State Championship and the 2015 South Carolina Independent School (SCISA) Class AAA Title.
'I believe basketball is more than just a game—it's a powerful tool to inspire, teach, and mold young people into hardworking, resilient, and service-minded leaders. My vision is to build a program that not only chases excellence on the court but also leaves a lasting impact off of it. Team from Clarendon Hills takes Little League state title
Brian Herold has had a feeling that this might be a very special summer for the Clarendon Hills Little League Baseball team. It's a feeling that's been growing for the last four years, and when it came time for tournament games leading to the Little League World Series, he was proved correct. Herold is the manager of the 12-and-under team that won the league's first-ever state championship at that level Wednesday, July 24 in Elgin with a 2-0 victory over La Grange Park. The win advances Clarendon Hills to the Great Lakes Region Tournament in Whitestown, Indiana. Clarendon Hills opens play at 7 p.m. Aug. 2 against a team from Indiana. The Great Lakes group also includes teams from Kentucky, Ohio, and Michigan. The championship game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday Aug. 6. Several games will be shown on ESPN. Clarendon Hills advanced to the 14-team State Tournament by winning the District 11 competition in Hinsdale and went on to dominate the state field in Elgin. Clarendon Hills outscored its opponents, 60-7, while compiling a perfect, 6-0 record. 'The differential is misleading,' Herold said. 'We played some very good teams during the State Tournament, but managed to play mistake-free baseball. Our pitching and defense were outstanding and consistent throughout the tournament.' Along with being the manager of this year's 12U team. Herold was the manager two years ago of the Clarendon Hills team that won the State Championship in the 10-year-old tournament, and many of those players were part of this year's 12U team. But Herold's good feelings about these boys goes back even further, 'since they were 8 years old.' 'We recognized their talent, willingness to work hard and get better, and an appreciation to work together as a team,' he said. After losing in the district tournament to Naperville, which ultimately won the state title, the team has put in extra work to get better, he added. While he felt his team was ready for success this year, Herold said he expected the District 11 competition to be challenging. 'Our district is arguably the most difficult in the state,' he said. 'We knew we couldn't take any team lightly and had to approach every game like it was the championship.' Because bracket-play seeding from the first two rounds was determined by record and fewest runs allowed, making the right choices about the pitching rotation became very important, Herold said. 'When we achieved the number one seed in bracket play, we knew we had a better path, based on our pitching eligibility,' he said. 'Everything lined up for us. Our pitching depth is a major advantage of our team. We used seven pitchers during the tournament and feel confident in each one of them in any situation.' Player Luke Schaller was outstanding on the mound for Clarendon Hills in the state championship game. He pitched all six innings and gave up only four hits, while striking out three and walking one. Clarendon Hills scored its first run in the third inning on an RBI single by Brody Herold, driving in Hudson Lauerman. The second run came in the fourth inning when Connor Lazar's base hit drove in Liam Harrigan. 'We recognize that this is a very special group that has achieved something unprecedented for a town of our size,' Herold said. 'We also have an appreciation for the investment that our town puts into the game of Little League and the opportunities it provides.' Herold said the approach in getting ready for the region tournament is no different than what it's been all season. 'We highlight 'perfect practice makes perfect.'' He said.' The boys have committed to putting in the necessary work. Our goal is to win each inning of every game we play. We have a very balanced team with solid pitching and defense. We certainly hope the journey continues beyond the Region, but we are going to play one game at a time.'

Klay Thompson claims being ‘in love' with Megan Thee Stallion has improved his athletic abilities
Former Golden State Warriors player Klay Thompson is deeply in love with Grammy-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion — and even claims that their budding romance has improved his athletic abilities. Megan documented their recent golf date in Arkansas this week, sharing an over seven-minute-long video recap to Instagram and TikTok in which they take turns teeing off. 'Ever since I've been in love, my golf game's reaped all the benefits,' Thompson notes after tallying up the final score in the clip, which was posted Wednesday, July 23. He also refers to Megan as his 'good luck charm' while on the course. Thompson began doting on the 'Body' rapper long before they began playing, however. Megan began her video by explaining that she let Thompson pick her outfit for the date, having him show off a few options that he purchased for her. She ultimately opted for a white shirt and pink athletic skirt. 'You picked it. You think it's cute?' she asked Thompson while showing off the look on the golf course. 'Mm-hmm, you even got the cute shoes on and the shirt,' he replied. 'I did well, I'm really proud of myself.' The couple made their red carpet debut on July 16, arriving hand in hand to the Pete & Thomas Foundation Gala in New York. Hosted by Megan, the event raised funds for the foundation, which she founded to support underserved communities and honor her late parents. 'This is my first relationship where I've ever been with somebody who's genuinely a nice person, and he makes me genuinely happy,' Megan told Page Six. 'I just never dated somebody like him before and I'm just grateful that he's here by my side and he feels the same way about me.' Megan and Thompson officially went public with their relationship earlier this month, when photos of the two holding hands after dining at Carbone in New York City made rounds online. Thompson spent 13 seasons with the Warriors, helping to lead the Bay Area team to four NBA championships before moving over to the Dallas Mavericks. Megan, a Texas native, wrapped up her 36-city 'Hot Girl Summer' tour last fall. She stopped at Chase Center, home of the Warriors, in June 2024. The previous summer, she performed at Outside Lands in Golden Gate Park.

Mercedes-AMG GT Track Sport Teased As Porsche 911 GT3 RS Fighter
The latest car news, reviews, and features. Mercedes-Benz is clearly aware the second-generation AMG GT is not the sports car the first-generation car was. It's compromised because it shares its platform with the latest SL-Class, and has morphed into a 2+2 situation. On Friday, the AMG team in Affalterbach released teaser images and a handful of words about the Concept AMG GT Track Sport, but this thing looks like anything but a concept. It looks like a near production-ready car. And it's clear the teaser images are a way to give cover so this sports car can start testing on race tracks and public roads without wild speculation. A V8 engine under the hood is confirmed, and it's hard to imagine it's not the AMG team's twin-turbo setup with a hot-v design. Expect well over 600 horsepower, a 9-speed automatic transmission, and of course, a limited-slip rear differential. Adaptive shocks and huge (carbon ceramic?) brakes should keep things controlled. This coupe looks the part. Despite the camouflage we can see a swan-neck rear wing and massive front splitter. A wheel laying on the ground next to the car appears to be wrapped in a Michelin street-legal tire, possibly a Cup 2 R, which would be both street legal and track ready. It looks like Porsche 911 GT3 RS fighter. Details are slim at this point, but Mercedes called this coupe an 'uncompromising sports car concept,' and noted it's meant to 'set record lap times.' Seems Mercedes' AMG team took it personally when the Porsche 911 GT2 RS with a Manthey Performance Kit lapped the Nürburgring in 2021 in just 6:43.3, which handily bested the 6:48 it took the old AMG GT Black Series. One has to imagine this 'concept' is out for revenge on the Green Hell.
