India reached 51 for one at stumps after Ekansh Singh's determined century guided England to 309 on a rain-affected second day of the second Youth Test on Monday.
At the close of play, Ayush Mhatre was batting on 20 alongside Vihaan Malhotra on six, with India U-19 trailing by 258 runs.
What Happened On Day 2
Only 28.3 overs were possible on Day 2 after overnight and morning rain caused a delayed start, marked by multiple interruptions.
Singh, who resumed on 66 after sharing a crucial 90-run sixth wicket stand with skipper Thomas Rew (59) on the opening day, completed a well-deserved century, scoring 117 off 155 balls.
The Kent all-rounder added 100 runs with number nine James Minto (46) as England crossed the 300-run mark. Singh hit 14 boundaries and three sixes during his crucial knock. Minto also hit a six and cracked six boundaries in his 89-ball innings.
Leg-spinner Naman Pushpak (4/76) broke the partnership by dismissing Minto caught and bowled before removing Alex Green soon after. Singh was the last batter to fall, caught by Rahul Kumar off Malhotra's bowling.
In reply, opener Suryavanshi attacked early, hitting a four and two sixes off Green before the bowler had him caught by AM French for a quick-fire 20, reducing India to 37 for one.
Rain interrupted play after tea, allowing only 3.1 overs in the final session before stumps were drawn.
Brief scores:
India U-19: 51 for 1 in 9 overs (Ayush Mhatre 24 not out, Vihaan Malhotra 6 not out; Alex Green 1/34).

AC Milan Legend Franco Baresi Undergoes Surgery; Enroute Road To Recovery

Last Updated: AC Milan legend Franco Baresi is recovering well after surgery to remove a pulmonary nodule. The 65-year-old will begin oncological recovery therapy. AC Milan legend Franco Baresi is recovering well after undergoing surgery to remove a pulmonary nodule, the club confirmed in an official statement on Sunday. The former defender and honorary vice president will now begin oncological recovery therapy, which includes immunotherapy. 'It Will Take Me a Little Time to Get Back to Full Strength" The 65-year-old Baresi issued a message to reassure fans following the operation, expressing optimism despite the health setback. 'Dear fans, I just want to let you know that it will take me a little time to get back to full strength," he said in a statement released by the club. The issue was discovered during a routine medical check, and doctors moved quickly to perform the surgery. His recovery will be closely monitored as he begins further treatment in the coming weeks. A True Icon of AC Milan and Italian Football Franco Baresi is one of the most revered figures in the history of AC Milan and Italian football. He spent his entire 20-year professional playing career at San Siro, making over 700 appearances for the Rossoneri and captaining the side for 15 seasons before retiring in 1997. Known for his elegant defending, tactical intelligence, and leadership, Baresi was the anchor of Milan's defense during a golden era for the club—winning six Serie A titles and three European Cups. On the international stage, he was part of Italy's victorious 1982 World Cup squad and later captained the national team to the final of the 1994 tournament in the United States, where the Azzurri fell to Brazil in a dramatic penalty shootout. Since retiring, Baresi has remained closely tied to the club, currently serving as honorary vice president. His legacy continues to influence generations of Milan fans and players, with his No. 6 jersey retired in his honor. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. India & England Create History, Level 96-Year-Old Record With 14 300-Plus Totals

Last Updated: India and England posted their 14th 300-plus total in Tests at the Oval, with England needing 57 runs for a series-sealing victory over the visitors. With the run-flow continuing at the Oval in London during the fifth Test of the series between India and England, the two teams posted their 14th 300-plus total, the highest in Tests, levelling a record from the 1928-29 Ashes and going past the 1975-76 series between Australia and the Windies. England went past 300 in their second innings with a boundary from Harry Brook off Akash Deep in the 63rd over, as they looked all set to chase down the target. An epic 195-run partnership off 211 deliveries between Brook and ace batter Joe Root took the wind out of India's sails as England coasted to 317/4 at tea, needing another 57 runs for the series-sealing win against India. India and England scored 300+ runs in all four innings of the first Test at Leeds, in three innings of the second Test in Birmingham and Manchester and in two innings of the third Test at Lord's and the Oval. In the 1928/29 Ashes, England won 4-1 Down Under, one of their best shows ever in the history of the tournament. Wally Hammond scored a whopping 905 runs in the series, at a stunning average of 113.12. Surprisingly, left-arm spinner Jack White finished as the highest wicket-taker in the series. It was the second century of the series for Brook (111 off 98), who displayed special ball striking abilities under extreme pressure. Brook made most of a life given on 19 when Mohammed Siraj stumbled to the boundary ropes after taking his catch off Prasidh Krishna. The three Indian pacers couldn't take much out of the track with a softer ball and the two spinners, Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja, too, proved ineffective, although to be fair to them, they were not given long spells. The new ball is still 14 overs away and the match would be as good as over by then if England continue marching towards their goal. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
