India.com06-06-2025
ITANAGAR: Security forces neutralised two militants during a fierce gun battle in Arunachal Pradesh's Longding district, bordering Myanmar, officials said on Friday. A Defence spokesperson said that the slain militants were suspected to be from the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-K-YA) faction. The gunfight occurred on Thursday when during the patrolling party of the security forces came under attack from militants believed to be operating across the porous India-Myanmar border in Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh.
'In response, the security forces effectively retaliated against the attack,' the spokesman said, adding that during the intense firefight, the armed cadres withdrew across the International Border towards Myanmar.
The NSCN (K-YA) faction has been active in cross-border operations despite ongoing peace negotiations with various other Naga outfits including dominant faction NSCN (IM).
Meanwhile, on May 14, ten militants were killed during an encounter with the Assam Rifles in southern Manipur's Chandel district, which shares the unfenced border with Myanmar and a large cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from the spot.
The cache comprised seven AK-47 rifles, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, a M4 rifle, and four single-barrel breech-loading rifles, ammunition and other war-like stores.
On April 27, three militants of the NSCN-K-YA faction were killed during a fierce gun battle between the security forces and the extremists in Arunachal Pradesh's same Longding district.
Meanwhile, the Army and Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Assam Police, earlier apprehended a wanted top cadre of the NSCN-KYA from Assam's Charaideo district.
The NSCN-K-YA has earlier served an extortion notice of Rs 20 lakh to the public sector oil major Oil India Limited (OIL).
The notice was signed by the outfit's self-styled Major, Tha Aung and sent to OIL's office in Manabhum, located in the Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The OIL has its operational site at the Manabhum reserve forest in eastern Arunachal, and the thickly forested reserve forest areas fall under both Changlang and Namsai districts.
On April 29, three militants of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) were killed during an encounter with the security forces in Assam's mountainous Dima Hasao district.
However, the faction of the NSCN they belonged to is yet to be known. Two AK series rifles and a pistol were recovered from the forested areas. The NSCN-K-YA has not signed a ceasefire agreement with the Centre. Four northeastern states – Arunachal Pradesh (520 km), Manipur (398 km), Nagaland (215 km) and Mizoram (510 km) -- share 1,643-km unfenced border with Myanmar.

Jagan Mohan Reddy accuses CM Chandrababu Naidu of

Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh) [India], July 12 (ANI): Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Saturday launched a sharp attack on current Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, accusing him of 'ruthlessly crushing' the democratic process in the state. In a post on X, Reddy said that the right to question, protest and assemble is a basic part of democracy, but these rights are being suppressed under Naidu's rule. 'The right to question, protest, and assemble forms the bedrock of democracy, empowering citizens to freely express their grievances and demand accountability. In Andhra Pradesh, however, this fundamental democratic process is being ruthlessly crushed under the weight of an authoritarian regime led by Chandrababu Naidu,' Reddy wrote. He blamed the state government for using the police force, which 'stifles dissent and creates a chilling atmosphere akin to a police state or dictatorship.' 'Every attempt by the public or opposition to raise legitimate concerns is met with repression, harassment, and fabricated legal cases, leaving no room for dissent. This deliberate assault on democratic freedom is an attack on the very essence of democracy in the state,' he said. Reddy also listed several instances where he claimed that cases were filed against him or party workers during his visits to different parts of the state. Citing an incident in Guntur, he wrote, 'Mirchiyard, Guntur (Feb 19, 2025): I met mirchi farmers to address their plight, as they face denial of remunerative prices and a drastic drop in mirchi prices from Rs 27,000 to Rs 8,000 per quintal. 1 case was filed.' Mentioning another case, he said, 'Ramagiri (April 8, 2025): I visited Rapthadu constituency to console the family of Kuruba Lingamaiah, a backward class (BC) leader of YSRCP who was brutally murdered by TDP followers in Ramagiri. One case was filed, including on Rapthadu constituency YSRCP coordinator Thopadurthi Prakash Reddy.' He added that similar incidents occurred in Podili, Sattenapalli, and Bangarupalyam, where cases were also allegedly filed. He accused the authorities of using vague charges to keep open the option of targeting more people in the future. 'In every instance, the authorities list three or four named individuals alongside vague references to 'others,' allowing them to arbitrarily target more people later. During my every visit, the police are putting all their efforts to curtail the movement of the people. YSRCP leaders and party workers are being issued notices in advance, and in many cases, they are being detained at their homes to prevent them from joining the events. Even farmers are being stopped, questioned, and video recorded at multiple checkpoints,' Reddy alleged. He said the opposition is being harassed for raising public issues. Reddy further alleged, 'The only opposition party in this state is responsibly addressing public issues through its programs. Chandrababu Naidu's actions through fabricated cases, arrests, and media manipulation reveal a desperate attempt to cling to power by suffocating democratic expression.' He also blamed the current government for misgovernance. 'Chandrababu Naidu is silencing the voiceless, eroding the very democratic fabric, leaving citizens with no avenue to challenge injustice or demand their rights, in spite of broken promises of misgovernance by the current regime,' he said. Continuous employment creation underway: Bhupender Yadav

Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], July 12 (ANI): Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav stated that continuous employment creation by the central government is going on as very big rozgaar mela was organised in the country on Saturday at more than 48 locations in which about 51000 youth were given appointment letters directly by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On the 16th Rozgaar Mela, Yadav told reporters, 'A very big rozgaar mela was organised in the country today at more than 48 locations in which about 51000 youth were given appointment letters directly by PM Narendra Modi. Continuous employment creation by the central government is going on...' Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that India is rapidly moving towards becoming the world's third-largest economy, adding that the country has made progress across every sector in the last 11 years. Speaking at the 16th edition of the Rozgar Mela, the Prime Minister said that India's manufacturing sector is one of its 'greatest strength' and that the government has taken steps to boost employment in the private sector. 'The focus of the Indian government is also on creating new employment opportunities in the private sector. Recently, the government has approved a new scheme - the Employment Linked Incentive scheme. Under this scheme, the government will provide Rs 15,000 to youth securing their first job in the private sector, meaning the government will contribute to the first salary of their first job. For this, the government has allocated a budget of about Rs 1 lakh crore, and this scheme will help in creating approximately 3.5 crore jobs,' he said. He also highlighted the steps taken to support manufacturing, saying, 'Today, one of India's greatest strengths is our manufacturing sector. A large number of new jobs are being created in manufacturing... To boost the manufacturing sector, Mission Manufacturing has been announced in this year Budget. In recent years, we have strengthened the Make in India campaign.' The Prime Minister said that two sectors in particular, electronics and mobile phone manufacturing, and defence manufacturing, have seen massive growth. 'From PLI scheme, 11 lakh jobs were created. In the recent years, mobile phones and electronic sectors saw unprecedented expansion. Today, electronics worth Rs 11 lakh crores are being manufactured. This sector has witnessed growth of more than 5 times in the last 11 years. Earlier, there were only 2-4 units of mobile phone manufacturing. Now, the number has increased to 300 units where lakhs of youth are working...' He also spoke about the rapid growth in defence production, especially after Operation Sindoor: 'There is one more such sector and after Operation Sindoor, it has been widely discussed. It is defence manufacturing. India is making new records in defence manufacturing. Our defence production has reached beyond Rs 1.25 lakh crores... Today, our country is rapidly moving towards becoming the world's third-largest economy. This is the marvel of the hard work of my youth. In the past 11 years, India has made progress across every sector,' he said. Quoting a report by the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the Prime Minister said that government welfare schemes have also helped boost employment. 'Recently, a report by the International Labour Organisation stated that in the past decade, over 90 crore citizens in India have been brought under the coverage of welfare schemes. The impact of these schemes goes beyond welfare -- they have also contributed significantly to employment generation. For instance, under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, over 4 crore houses have been built so far. And it's not just about providing homes. The process of building these houses has created countless job opportunities across the country. In this, most of the jobs were created in villages,' PM Modi added. (ANI)
