CB Kader Kohou, Dolphins' starting nickel, out for season
Kohou is their primary nickel cornerback and head coach Mike McDaniel said he was playing the best football of his career before he went down with the injury over the weekend.
"I saw him ascend to a different level (in the offseason)," McDaniel said Wednesday. "The timing of it. ... I was crushed until I talked to Kader, and honestly Kader made me feel a little bit better, simply by his mindset.
"You don't know the whys all the time when things happen, and I get concerned for guys who get stuck in that world of a fixation for 'opportunities lost.' Kader's mindset triggered like that, to where he said, 'This is tough but I guarantee I'm going to come back better.' That is the way to approach both the game of football and life."
Miami traded cornerback Jalen Ramsey to the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier this summer and acquired safety Minkah Fitzpatrick in return. Fitzpatrick is capable of filling a hybrid safety-cornerback role if the Dolphins decide to take that route with their thinned personnel at the defensive back spots.
Kohou was the only returning starter in the secondary from last season. When he was hurt Saturday, the Dolphins signed veteran defensive back Mike Hilton.
Already in the first week of training camp, cornerback Artie Burns suffered a torn ACL and safety Ashtyn Davis left practice on crutches and his left foot was in a walking boot on Tuesday.

August 1 - After nearly three decades of playing in Maryland, the Washington Commanders have the green light to build a new $3.7 billion stadium in D.C. that should bring them back to the nation's capital by 2030. The D.C. Council voted 9-3 on Friday to ratify the deal between the city and the NFL team. The site of the new 174-acre complex will be the same as RFK Stadium, which remains in place even though the team moved out prior to the 1997 season. "This is a historic moment," Commanders managing partner Josh Harris said in a statement. "This project is about more than delivering a world-class stadium worthy of our players, fans and the region. It's about revitalizing a critical part of our city, creating thousands of jobs and unlocking long-term economic benefits for the District. We look forward to working with our fans, residents, community leaders and elected officials to deliver on this vision." The franchise enjoyed its finest years at the RFK site, which opened in 1961 as District of Columbia Stadium. During the team's 36 seasons at RFK, it won Super Bowls VII, XXII and XXVI while appearing in two more and earning eight other playoff appearances. Since former owner Dan Snyder moved the team to now-Northwest Stadium in Landover, Md., in 1997, Washington has amassed just seven playoff appearances in 28 years. Last season's run to the NFC title game was the Commanders' first push past the divisional round since 1991. Snyder's decision to sell his team in 2022 - a move encouraged by the NFL - helped pave the way for the franchise's return to D.C. In addition, Harris indicated his willingness to foot more of the bill than most owners. According to details of the deal, the Commanders are expected to handle $2.7 billion of the stadium's cost along with any overruns. Davis' deal has a $62.8 million player option for the 2027-28 season before he becomes a free agent. Davis' 2024-25 season saw him limited to 51 games due to injuries, including just nine with the Mavericks following the controversial trade. 'It's an emotional day. [My] first game here in Dallas,' Davis said postgame. Just from the standpoint of being with a new team, first time putting the uniform on, so a lot of emotions before game time. 'My leg got tight, like a little spasm,' he said of the injury. 'Just trying to get it loose, but it's nothing serious.'

White Sox reinstate RHP Shane Smith from 15-day IL, will start tonight
August 2 - The Chicago White Sox reinstated right-handed pitcher Shane Smith from the 15-day injured list ahead of the team's series opener at the Los Angeles Angels on Friday. Chicago also selected the contract of outfielder Corey Julks from Triple-A Charlotte and optioned outfielder Will Robertson to Triple-A. Smith, 25, landed on the injured list retroactive to July 16 with a left ankle sprain. The White Sox returned him to the rotation immediately as he was slotted to start Friday's game against the Angels. Smith was 3-7 with a 4.26 ERA and 81 strikeouts across 18 starts for the White Sox before hitting the injured list. Thanks to a fast start that led to a 2.37 ERA through his first 13 starts, Smith became the first Chicago rookie pitcher to be selected to the AL All-Star team. The 29-year-old Julks joins the White Sox after batting .295 with 10 home runs and 46 RBIs over 87 games with Charlotte this season. He played in 66 games with Chicago a year ago, hitting .214 with three homers and 14 RBIs. Robertson, 27, made four appearances for the White Sox this year, going 0-for-6 with four strikeouts.
