They're increasingly drawn to destinations that encourage slowing down rather than speeding up.
A new study by relaxation-focused brand Blakk Smoke has revealed the top spots for mindful travel - places where tranquility is key and escaping the daily grind is the ultimate aim.
And the Scottish Highlands have earned a place on the list.
The rankings are based on a unique 'Mindfulness Score' which analyses traveller sentiment, keyword trends and thousands of reviews.
This then helps pinpoint the cities, islands and landscapes best suited for fostering "calm, clarity and wellbeing".
Each destination is then scored out of 100 based on how often holidaymakers describe it using words like "peaceful", "relaxing" and "mindful".
It also takes into account the number of wellness based activities like yoga retreats, spas and nature escapes.
Topping the list is Sedona, Arizona, USA, a true nirvana praised for its "energy vortexes," "red rock trails," and "spiritual retreats," achieving a near-perfect Mindfulness Score of 92.
Following closely at number two is Lake Bled in Slovenia, which scored 89 for its "mirror still water," "mountain air," and "island chapel views."
The Lake District in England secured third place, celebrated for its "Windermere walks," "hilltop journaling," and "total stillness."
The North Coast 500: Scotland's Must-Visit Road Trip Beats the Grand Canyon
Other serene locations named on the global list include Big Sur in California, Santorini in Greece, the Amalfi Coast in Italy and Kyoto in Japan.
But the bonnie Scottish Highlands proudly secured sixth place with an impressive score of 81.
They were lauded for their "vast solitude," "misty hikes," and irresistible "digital detox vibes".
We told previously how the Scottish Highlands were also named one of the best places for families on a budget.

Scots beaches that are exotic dupes of Caribbean resorts take TOP THREE spots in best UK rankings

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) FOUR Scottish beaches with crystal clear waters and white Caribbean sands have been named among the best across the UK. Scotland is home to a series of wonderful beaches - so it's no wonder that many receive nationwide attention for their beauty. Experts at QR Code Generator compiled the list by looking at the highest-rated beaches on Tripadvisor. Beaches that received four stars or higher were ranked based on the percentage of five-star reviews compared to the total number of reviews. And it found that four out of the top five beaches were all found in Scotland - sealing all of the top three spots. Some of which are so stunning that they are exotic dupes of Caribbean resorts. And experts say that they could actually be even better because they're lesser-known hidden gems, which are not as overrun with tourists as some hotspot areas are. Scottish beaches can often be overlooked for southern destinations, but these reviews show how extraordinary these locations really are Marc Porcar Marc Porcar, CEO of QR Code Generator, said: "Scotland dominates the list of best UK beaches, claiming four out of the top five spots. "Scottish beaches can often be overlooked for southern destinations, but these reviews show how extraordinary these locations really are. 'These beaches are more remote than usual seaside towns that are overrun during the summer months. "They offer visitors a quieter, more picturesque experience that is truly breathtaking.' Scotland's number one secret beach revealed Luskentyre Beach Located on the Isle of Harris, Luskentyre Beach came in at number one in the rankings. And it is no surprise, as it features miles of white sand and beautiful green-blue water, with impressive sand dunes and views of the island of Taransay. Further adding to Luskentyre's appeal – for such a beautiful beach visitors might expect to have to share the beauty spot with crowds of other travellers but on the contrary. So it's often possible to take a stroll along this beach without seeing another soul, making it the ideal secluded retreat. The study found that 93.79 per cent of reviews (1,072 out of 1,143) rated it five stars. And it was named one of the UK's best beaches in the Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice Awards. Scarista Beach Another beach on the Isle of Harris that made the list is Scarista Beach. Coming in at second place, experts found that 90.50 per cent of reviews (200 out of 221) rated it five stars. Less than six miles from Luskentyre Beach, it is popular among visitors for its rows of dunes that are left behind by large waves nearly every day. And it's because of these massive waves and high gusts of wind that it's been named as one of the best surfing beaches in Scotland. The white sandy beach is speckled with seashells and since it lies on the southwestern coast, it has picturesque views over the Atlantic Ocean. 5 Camusdarach Beach is an arc of white, glistening sand and clear water Credit: Alamy Camusdarach Beach Camusdarach Beach was the third Scottish beach on the list and also rounded out the top three spots. It is an arc of white, glistening sand and clear water just south of the estuary of River Morar, near the village of Morar, which is three miles south of Mallaig. And visitors loved its spectacular views across the crags of the Cuillin mountain range, on the Isle of Skye. Branded breathtaking, the spot is perfect for swimming, if you can brave the chilly waters, as well as rock pooling and walking. And Camusdarach found fame in the 1983 cult film Local Hero, known in the flick as Ben's beach. The experts found that a total of 88.54 per cent of reviews (309 out of 349) rated it five stars. 5 Marloes Sands Beach was the only non-Scottish beach in the top five rankings Credit: Getty Marloes Sands Beach Marloes Sands Beach in Pembrokeshire, Wales, was the only non-Scottish beach that made the top five across the UK. The remote bay provided the backdrop for 2011 film Snow White And The Huntsman starring Thor actor Chris Hemsworth and the Twilight movies' Kristen Stewart. Oscar-winning Hollywood legends Katharine Hepburn, Peter O'Toole and Sir Anthony Hopkins also filmed there for 1968's The Lion In Winter, which won three Academy Awards. Travellers can approach the beach via the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path loop walk – taking in an iron-age fort, a deer park, and potential sights of wildlife including seabirds, seals and porpoises. And a total of 88.51 per cent of reviews (231 out of 261) rated it five stars. Full list of top 10 beaches across the UK Rank. It is a mile of golden sand forming a sweeping natural horseshoe bay on the far north-west coast of land belonging to the John Muir Trust, a charity that protects wild places. The bay is backed by dunes and Sandwood Loch and framed by high cliffs. From the beach, the massive sea stack, Am Buachaille, can be seen at the southern end of the sands. It's also a great place for spotting dolphins. And many visitors flocked to the popular review site to say they were impressed with its natural bay.

What is EU's hand luggage ban and how will it affect Brits?

Here's what we know about the possible change and how it could affect those travelling to Europe from the UK. What does EU hand luggage fee ban mean for Brits? Travel agency has shared insights from James Spalding, UK Head of Aviation, on how this change could affect customers. Hand luggage policies are different for each airline (Image: Getty) Hand luggage policies are different depending on the airline you fly with meaning those who don't travel often need to brush up on the rules before going away. James Spalding said: 'If the EU introduces a standard size and removes fees for small cabin bags, it could bring greater consistency across the board. That means fewer unexpected charges and a simpler way to compare fares between airlines. 'That said, it's unlikely airlines will absorb the cost entirely. It may be built into the base fare instead. While that could mean slightly higher upfront prices, many travellers will welcome the added transparency - knowing exactly what's included in the ticket from the outset.' The BBC added: 'Under the new rule, travellers would be allowed to bring one cabin bag measuring up to 100cm on board their flight, as well as an under-the-seat personal item with a maximum size of 40x30x15cm at no additional cost. 'The proposed law still requires approval from 55% of EU member states, but if adopted following negotiations starting in July 2025, the new rules would extend to all flights within the EU, as well as routes to and from the EU.' Your rights if your flight is cancelled or delayed How will the EU hand luggage fee ban affect prices? James explained: 'Over recent years, many European carriers have introduced fares without hand luggage to offer more flexibility and competitive entry-level pricing. 'If that option is removed, airlines may explore other ways to offer choice — for example, by introducing or expanding 'priority' options for early boarding or guaranteed cabin space. 'Cabin storage is always limited, especially on full flights. We already see some airlines asking passengers to check bags at the gate when overhead lockers are full. 'If more passengers bring similar-sized bags onboard under a single rule, it could lead to more operational changes and a bigger focus on how baggage is managed at boarding.' Do I need travel insurance? How can you get a good deal if prices go up? If prices rise, James says 'comparison is key.' Using platforms like will mean travellers can compare prices and 'see what's included in their fare - from cabin bags and checked luggage to seat selection.' Use search filters so you can select your preferences when booking your holiday so you can 'avoid unexpected costs at checkout' and find the flights and holiday deals that suit you. Will UK airlines ban hand luggage fees? Since the UK operates outside the EU now, you might be wondering how this hand luggage fee change could affect you and your holiday. James said: 'That's an interesting one. If the UK doesn't adopt the same rule, there could be a bit of a mismatch - especially on flights between the UK and the EU - with different policies for the outbound and return legs. That might cause some confusion for passengers and create complexity for airlines. Your passport is your most important travel document - it's worth taking your time to get right! Before submitting your application check: - your photo meets all requirements - all personal details are correct - supporting documents are ready - payment details are accurate — His Majesty's Passport Office (@HM_Passport) June 16, 2025 'To simplify things, some carriers may choose to align their policies across both EU and UK routes, even if it's not a formal requirement. We'll have to wait and see how the industry responds.' What are the hand luggage sizes for Ryanair, Jet2, easyJet and more? Each airline has different allowances for hand luggage, here's what we know. Ryanair's website says: "All our fares include one small personal bag which can be brought on board, such as a handbag or laptop bag (40x20x25cm), which must fit under the seat in front of you." easyJet says passengers can bring one small cabin bag: Maximum size 45 x 36 x 20cm (including any handles and wheels) Includes items like a small trolley case, handbag, rucksack and laptop bag, but please check dimensions Needs to fit under the seat in front of you Maximum weight 15kg. You need to be able to lift and carry the bag yourself Recommended reading: Jet2 says: "You can bring one piece of hand luggage onboard free of charge, as long as it weighs no more than 10kg and is no larger than 56cm x 45cm x 25cm, including any wheels and handles." Here's what you're allowed to bring on board when flying with British Airways: 1 cabin bag, max. 23kg (51lbs), up to 56×45×25cm (22 x 18 x 10in) 1 handbag or laptop bag, max. 23kg (51lbs), up to 40×30×15cm (16 x 12 x 6in) Wizz Air allows two types of bags to be brought onboard, according to its website rules: Free carry-on bag Trolley bag (for WIZZ Priority holders) It allows everyone one small carry-on bag, which should be placed under the seat, maximum size: 40 x 30 x 20 cm, 10kg. Exceeding these dimensions will result in additional fees being charged. Passengers have the choice to upgrade their hand luggage allowance at an extra cost.

With the fires ongoing, here is everything you need to know about travelling to Crete. Wildfires have broken out on the southern coast of Crete in Greece, with winds spreading the fire and creating a six kilometre front. Over 230 firefighters are currently tackling the blaze, with more than 1,500 people evacuated from homes and hotels on Wednesday. Smoke from the fires has reached as far as Makry Gialos Beach, according to the BBC, which is six miles from Achlia, in Lasithi, where the fire is currently being battled. Emergency alerts were also issued throughout the day yesterday, urging people to evacuate from Achlia, Ferma, Agia, Fotia, Galini and Koutsounari. The Greek Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection has issued "a very high fire risk category four" alert for tomorrow, in the Attica region (including the island of Kythira), region of Evia in central Greece, the Peloponnese region and the North Aegean region (Chios, Samos, Ikaria). Is it safe to visit Crete? The Foreign Office has currently not issued any warning against non-essential travel to the region. The Foreign Office's advice for wildfires in Greece states: "There is a high risk of wildfires during the summer season from April to October. "Ensure that your mobile phone is registered to receive emergency alerts to be warned of wildfires near your location. "Wildfires are highly dangerous and unpredictable. The situation can change quickly. "To avoid starting wildfires: leave no litter, especially not glass which is known to start fires; make sure cigarettes are properly extinguished; do not light barbecues. The TUI guide to Crete from best beaches to passport rules "Causing a wildfire or a forest fire is a criminal offence in Greece – even if unintentional. If you see a fire, call the emergency services on 112." The Foreign Office's advice adds that individuals should follow '@112Greece' for official updates, follow guidance from local emergency services, call the Greek emergency services on 112 if you are in immediate danger and to contact your airline or travel operator about return travel to the UK. Have flights been cancelled to Crete airport? Flights are currently uninterrupted, with some delays of up to an hour according to FlightRadar24, at Heraklion International Airport and Chania International Airport. However delays are more likely to have been caused by ATC strikes today, disrupting usage of the French airspace. There are also staff shortages at some airports in Europe and summer storm activity is currently occurring over the Alps. 3 Over 230 firefighters are currently tackling the blaze Credit: Reuters Can I cancel my trip? As the Foreign Office has not warned against non-essential travel to Greece, there are no special circumstances in place for travellers to cancel their trip and receive a full refund. Depending on what travel insurance you have, your policy might include natural disaster cover. This means that your insurance covers you for when you are unable to reach your holiday destination due to a natural event, like wildfires. So it is worth checking your travel insurance policy. If you do choose to cancel your trip, it is best to contact your airline or holiday provider and there is no obligation for companies to refund bookings unless government advice changes. Turkey wildfire map also shows the horror blazes near Brit holiday hotspots as 50,000 people were evacuated. Plus, back in May, an earthquake hit Crete. Flight compensation rules A look at your rights if a flight is delayed or cancelled, when your entitled to compensation and if your travel insurance can cover the costs. What are my rights if my flight is cancelled or delayed? Under UK law, airlines have to provide compensation if your flight arrives at its destination more than three hours late. If you are flying to or from the UK, your airline must let you choose a refund or an alternative flight. You will be able to get your money back for the part of your ticket that you haven't used yet. So, if you booked a return flight and the outbound leg is cancelled, you can get the full cost of the return ticket refunded. But if travelling is essential, then your airline has to find you an alternative flight. This could even be with another airline. When am I not entitled to compensation? The airline doesn't have to give you a refund if the flight was cancelled due to reasons beyond their control, such as extreme weather. Disruptions caused by things like extreme weather, airport or air traffic control employee strikes or other 'extraordinary circumstances' are not eligible for compensation. Some airlines may stretch the definition of "extraordinary circumstances" but you can challenge them through the aviation regulator the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). Will my insurance cover me if my flight is cancelled? If you can't claim compensation directly through the airline, your travel insurance may refund you. Policies vary so you should check the small print, but a delay of eight to 12 hours will normally mean you qualify for some money from your insurer. Remember to get written confirmation of your delay from the airport as your insurer will need proof. If your flight is cancelled entirely, you're unlikely to be covered by your insurance.
