Mangaluru: Deputy commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP launched the Urban & District Advancement through Localising Innovations (UDAL) initiative and the DC's Fellowship Programme virtually on Saturday.
UDAL, which is being implemented through organising partner InUnity-Innovation for Community and Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL), is a platform for students and innovators to work on real-world civic issues in Dakshina Kannada, mentored by experts and supported by the district administration. Themes focused under the UDAL are sustainable city, urban city planning, public healthcare service, and disaster management.
The DC said, "We explored opportunities to harness Mangaluru's capabilities for a long time. Our objective is to establish a structured framework that enables institutions to work alongside administrators for technological integration. We face numerous challenges, including waterlogging, difficulties in handling solid waste disposal, and various other concerns that require dedicated attention from individuals who can persistently identify solutions and address shortcomings.
Engaging with educational institutions and collaborating with young students to comprehend challenges forms the core objectives. These partnerships aim to facilitate policy formulation through active participation and research-based understanding. Students gain direct experience with urban and district-level challenges while collaborating with senior administrative officials to develop effective solutions."
Students can transform their technological solutions into viable products, fostering a startup ecosystem in Mangaluru, he said. "Young and bright individuals can contribute their expertise in technology and theoretical knowledge, while administrators continue their duties. Through collaboration, we can develop solutions that benefit everyone involved, particularly students participating in the DC's Fellowship programme.
This initiative not only enhances their professional credentials but also cultivates their entrepreneurial spirit," he added.
Under the DC's Fellowship programme, students will get an opportunity to work closely with the DC and city corporation sections on real civic innovations. They will be able to get mentored by industry and govt experts. Applications are shortlisted based on the criteria, and the top 10 fellows are paired with department champions to solve the pressing challenges, said a resource person.
Dakshina Kannada ZP CEO and in-charge DC Anandh K participated in the virtual meeting.

Was Rishabh Pant the highest-paid skipper of IPL for Rs 27 crore?

Rishabh Pant created history when, in 2024, he became the most expensive player to be ever auctioned and bought for a massive price at the Indian Premier League 2025. Here's a throwback to the historic moment. Back in November 2024, Rishabh Pant quite literally created history when he was acquired by the team Lucknow Super Giants at the IPL 2025 for a record-breaking price. Scenes at the mega auction event held in Saudi Arabia reached the next level when the auction for Pant began at Rs. 2 crores at the marquee set. The player was ultimately won by Team LSG only. Rishabh Pant's auction started a strong bidding war between LSG and DC. Well, the auction for Rishabh Pant in the IPL was not a smooth one, and it initially began with a strong war between teams Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants for acquiring him. After a few rounds, the bid scaled up to an enormous Rs 20.75 crores by LSG and was sold to the team. However, team DC issued the right-to-match card to buy back Rishabh Pant. But this time, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka raised the bid to an ultimatum of Rs 27 crores, and Delhi Capitals finally let go and did not contest this high amount any more. Know Rishabh Pant's salary in LSG after being the costliest cricketer While the massive sum of Rs. 27 crores grabbed attention, it must be known that Pant's salary consisted of a few more criteria and contracts that were agreed upon by him and the Lucknow Super Giants. Well, Rishabh Pant has been contracted with the team for a period of three years until the next mega auction takes place for the players of the IPL. Thus, the amount he has been picked for, Pant will receive during these three years after tax deductions. So out of his Rs. 27 crores, the cricketer will be giving away Rs. 8.1 crore as tax to the Indian government from his total contract. The remaining Rs. 18.9 crore will be received by Rishabh Pant in a total of three years, which comes to about Rs. 6.3 crore in a single year. Rishabh Pant's salary in the IPL in case of injuries during a match Interestingly, as per the contract drawn up between Rishabh and Lucknow Super Giants after the mega auction, the star cricketer is liable to receive the full salary even if he gets injured in-between the season and is not able to play any matches further. However, if the cricketer does not get a chance to play in even one match throughout the season, then the team's franchise holds the right to replace him with another player. Rishabh Pant's hilarious reaction to being the most expensive cricketer in IPL history Recently Rishabh graced The Great Indian Kapil Show, where the host and comedian Kapil Sharma reminded him of his massive feat. He asked the cricketer' 'You were sold for ₹27 crore during the IPL 2025 auction. If a player in your team who was bought for ₹2-3 crores scores more runs than you, do you tell him to take some crores from me and score fewer runs than me?'. In response, Rishabh counter-questioned Kapil what the latter would do if some other artist on his show had a better comic timing than him. To this Kapil added that he edits out the parts, leaving Pant in a peal of laughter.

Marshall Major V review: Iconic design, impressive battery

Rating: 3.5 / 5 'I wanna rock-n-roll all night, and party every day,' these words by Kiss prove to be the motto for Marshall's new Major V headphones that promise to go on for days and nights. Marshall has been a popular brand amongst both artists and music lovers for years. Major V is the latest iteration in the company's iconic headphone lineup. These box-shaped compact headphones carry forward Marshall's iconic rock ' n ' roll-inspired design language while promising 100+ hours of wireless playtime. The fifth generation of Marshall's Major headphones series also comes with improvements over its predecessor, like a longer battery life. But in a market flooded with mid-range audio options, can the Major V compensate for its Rs 14,000 price tag? We spent weeks putting these on-ear headphones through various everyday scenarios, and here's what we found. Design From the very first look, the Major V shows the familiar Marshall aesthetic with the black vinyl texture, the iconic script logo, and the metal accents that scream rock 'n' roll heritage. The squarish earcups connect to the headband with a wire and metal accents, which can be pulled to adjust the size of the headphones to fit different head sizes. The power button, as well as the 3.5 mm audio and USB-C charging ports, are placed on the right cup while the left one holds the customisable M-button. At just 186g, the Major V headphones feel lightweight, and the on-ear fit feels snug. During a Delhi Metro ride, the headphones didn't feel very bulky and we were able to wear them easily for a few hours, without any hiccup. The earcups have a leather touch and feel soft on the ears. However, after 2-3 hours of constant usage, we noticed signs of fatigue, which is not a deal breaker, as it is common with most headphones. After a 3-hour-long GTA Online session with friends, the ear pads began pressing uncomfortably. The fabric covering felt pleasant initially, but the clamping force became noticeable as our ears started sweating and aching. The sleek, foldable design of the headphones came in handy during a recent weekend trip as it didn't take up much space in the backpack. These headphones don't come with a carrying pouch, but their rugged build saves them from scratches. Audio Performance and Features The Major V's 40mm dynamic drivers deliver what Marshall calls their "signature sound," and it's immediately recognisable. When we listened to AC/DC's "Thunderstruck," in default settings, the Major V delivered that classic Marshall amplifier rumble with punchy, guitar-focused and rock-oriented audio. In tracks with a lot of electric guitars and vocals, the tuning favours the mids. When we played Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody,' Freddie Mercury's voice came through very clearly, and Brian May's guitar sounded crisp and full of its original tone. The bass is there, but it's not as strong as the mid-range. Kendrick Lamar's 'They're Not Like Us' didn't have the same punch in your chest as bass-heavy headphones may produce. However, we could hear more of the small production details. The headphones' default setup suits genres like rock, folk and vocals more, but may disappoint fans of electronic music who want deeper bass and thumps. The M-button is also a real time-saver in everyday use. We set it to Spotify Tap, so a quick double-press started a new playlist instantly. This feature can be great for changing songs during a workout. The voice assistant feature also worked smoothly with both Google Assistant and Siri, even when there was background noise. The EQ presets on the M-button added useful options. We switched from the default Marshall tone to a balanced setting for Tyla's 'Water', and the headphones offered a better vibe. We also tried the headphones for gaming and found it easy to pinpoint the direction of footsteps. Engine sounds felt more immersive in racing games, and explosions and action scenes stood out during GTA Online. Battery Life and Connectivity The Major V delivers on its claim of over 100 hours of battery life. After days with video calls, music streaming, and GTA Online sessions, we didn't need to recharge them for two straight weeks. The wireless charging option is a nice bonus at this price. Bluetooth connectivity also stayed solid the whole time we tested them. Plus, with LE Audio support, the headphones remain ready for upcoming audio standards and enable Auracast audio sharing capabilities. Charging via USB-C that comes in the box takes about three hours for the battery to fully charge, which feels fair given how big the battery is. Just keep in mind that there's no fast-charge option for these headphones for situations where you need a quick boost before you're leaving the house. Verdict To sum it up, the Major V delivers the familiar Marshall sound in a durable, foldable design that easily lasts over 100 hours on a single charge. At Rs 14,000, it's a strong value for rock and guitar fans, with handy extras like a customisable M-button, wireless charging, and future-ready connectivity. While its on-ear fit and focused sound may not suit every audiophile, especially bass or EDM lovers, it's a reliable, long-lasting choice for those who prioritise longer battery life over precision.
