Thousands gather for Pride parade in downtown Toronto
The streets of Toronto were filled with music, colour and rainbows as thousands of people took part in the annual Pride parade on Sunday.
The parade kicked off at 2 p.m., with more than 25,000 marchers making their way from the Rosedale neighbourhood through the downtown core to Nathan Phillips Square.
Toronto's event is Canada's largest Pride celebration in the country, attracting millions of visitors every year.
Andrew Welch said he's been going to Pride Toronto for more than 25 years.
"We've been going to Pride for many years now, and the sense of community and the celebration are still here, even with the things happening around the world, so I'm really happy to see things haven't changed," he told CBC News on Sunday.
Pride Toronto says this year's ceremonies feature a 99 per cent Canadian lineup of performers and include a focus on the transgender and non-binary community.
Anishnawbe Health Toronto led Sunday's parade with a colourful hand-painted float and group of dancers, drummers and DJs.
Participant Cheryl Trudeau said the group was there "to show that we are open and accepting, that all of our members are part of our community."
"And we want to represent the '2S' in the LGBTQ2S+," added Enya Pinesse, also walking with the group, referring to the Indigenous two-spirit identity.

Ismael Mendoza wore a Mexican-inspired costume to represent his Mexican roots at Sunday's parade.
"As a Latino person, we come to live in this country because we feel safe, so showing what we are and what we do means a lot," he told CBC News.
This year's Pride Toronto theme, "All In," is meant to celebrate the city and reflect the core values of Canadians, organizers say. Its executive director said the event sends an important message.
"What it does is bring together the community and our allies to celebrate, but at the same time, to send a message that there are still many 2SLGBTQ+ members across the globe who are still fighting for their rights," Kojo Modeste said in an interview.

According to data from Statistics Canada, police-reported hate crimes targeting sexual orientation, sex and gender increased each year from 2019 to 2023.
Toronto police said on Thursday that the city has increased the police presence during Pride events, especially in the Church-Wellesley village area.
Pro-Palestinian protesters showed up at Sunday's parade for the second year in a row. The group called for the boycott of "corporate Pride," which they claim are companies that benefit from the Israel-Hamas war.
Earlier this year, Modeste revealed that Pride organizers were facing a $900,000 funding gap leading up to June's celebrations.
The loss of cash was blamed on rising costs and the departure of some corporate sponsors, including Google, Nissan, Home Depot, and Clorox.

Modeste attributed the pullback to backlash against diversity, equity and inclusion efforts that materialized in the U.S. and beyond under President Donald Trump.
Modeste told CBC News that the organization has not been able to make up the full amount that was lost from the sponsorships.
However, Modeste assured event-goers they will not be able to see a difference in the quality of Sunday's parade.
"They will not see the difference in the quality of the program, in the quality of the parade. We have done everything within our power to make sure the parade, the significance, the size, everything remains the same. The cuts that we had to make will not be shown today," Modeste told CBC News ahead of the event.
There are still a number of road closures taking place across the city on Sunday.
Parts of Church Street, Bloor Street West, Yonge Street, and Dundas Street West will be closed from the morning until 8 p.m. for the Pride parade.
Other street closures will vary based on the day and time. For more information on those, visit the Toronto police website.

Taylor Swift rocks $3.5K Balmain tweed dress and Louboutins for NYC date night with Travis Kelce
She's got style. Taylor Swift stepped out for a 'low-key' date night with her NFL beau, Travis Kelce, at San Vicente West Village on Saturday in a pink-and-white tweed Balmain dress ($3,490). The minidress featured gold chain straps and gold buttons down the front. She finished her look with a beige purse and matching Christian Louboutin shoes. The sighting comes shortly after Swift, 35, dropped this telling hint about her relationship with the Kansas City Chiefs star, also 35, with a touching jewelry tribute. While on their romantic date night in New York City earlier this month, the 'Enchanted' hitmaker wore a Foundrae opal necklace charm ($2,250) around her neck, a nod to Kelce's birthstone. 'This Opal Gemstone Heart symbolizes Love. True Love binds the heart forever… The heart is love. When we open ours, we connect with others,' the bauble's description reads. She completed her stacked jewelry set with a diamond chain necklace ($15,650) and another sentimental gem: An Anita Somayaji Sagittarius necklace ($2,700). The symbol represents the 'Cruel Summer' singer's zodiac sign, but the bow-and-arrow charm also has a connection to her NFL pro boyfriend; the archer is coincidentally his signature touchdown pose. Swift also sported her diamond-covered Cartier Santos Demoiselle watch. The 'Fortnight' songstress has long been a fan of the Foundrae brand. In September 2023 — before the couple publicly confirmed their romance — she was seen wearing a different Foundrae opal charm, the brand's Forever & Always a Pair Pendant ($1,400). For the rest of her look, she wore a Reformation corset top ($168), a Miu Miu poplin miniskirt ($1,019), white pumps and a cream Mansur Gavriel purse ($595). Kelce wore a US Soccer x Nike knit polo ($105), white knee-length shorts and white sneakers.

Metallica Reaches A Global Milestone For The First Time
Metallica's 'Enter Sandman' rises to a new peak of No. 177 on the Billboard Global 200, while living ... More inside the top 10 on multiple U.S.-based charts. UNSPECIFIED - FEBRUARY 11: AARDSHOCK FESTIVAL Photo of METALLICA and James HETFIELD, James Hetfield performing on stage (Photo by Pete Cronin/Redferns) Metallica's 'Enter Sandman' has become the band's biggest hit in the United States in the decades since it was first unleashed. The tune maintains an almost constant presence on several of Billboard's hard rock rankings and continues to sell and stream well enough almost every week to appear on multiple tallies. It was only relatively recently that the track became a global smash, at least on the charts. Now, it's bigger than ever. 'Enter Sandman' Rises on the Billboard Global 200 'Enter Sandman' climbs from No. 183 to No. 177 on the Billboard Global 200. Just four weeks into its time on that list — which measures the most consumed songs all around the planet — Metallica's single reaches a new all-time high point. Metallica's History on the Billboard Global 200 Metallica may be one of the most successful bands of all time all around the world, but thus far, the group has only scored two hits on the Billboard Global 200. 'Master of Puppets' earned the band its first win back in July 2022. A week after it arrived, that tune rose to No. 20, a position that stands as the outfit's overall peak. 'Enter Sandman' is nowhere near reaching that placement, and has only spent half as many weeks on the Billboard Global 200 as 'Master of Puppets.' It is likely to continue adding to its growing figure as people all around the world consume it non-stop, and the two might tie in a month or so. 'Enter Sandman' Continues as a U.S. Smash Back in America, 'Enter Sandman' is a much bigger hit this frame. The track holds at No. 3 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart, which just happens to be its all-time best showing. The single sits in the same position on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales ranking, dipping from the runner-up space to third. 'Enter Sandman' has previously ruled the purchase-focused roster several times. Years of Success on the Hard Rock Rankings While 'Enter Sandman' has only spent about a month on the Billboard Global 200, it has been charting for years on the hard rock lists in America. The track recently passed five years on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs ranking, and in the most recent frame, reached 700 stays on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales list.
