Relaxed lunch turns to tears as woman returns to empty parking bay in eMalahleni
A woman's relaxed afternoon took a terrible turn as she returned to an empty parking bay instead of her car.
According to the police, a woman reported that she had gone to eat at a local restaurant last week when she was introduced to the worst nightmare of her life afterward.
The woman said she had parked her white Toyota T-Cross in the parking area at a local shopping centre and gone to eat. Upon her return, her vehicle, including a laptop, was no longer there.
Witbank SAPS spokesperson Sergeant David Ratau urged all motorists to be cautious when parking their cars in public spaces.
'Close and lock all windows and doors when you park, park in well-lit areas if possible, and you must never leave valuables in your vehicle, especially if they can be seen from outside the vehicle,' he said.

Gang raids Klipfontein church and kidnap congregants
A church was the target yesterday when a gang of alleged armed robbers overpowered the pastor and congregants. According to the police, more than five armed men busted into the church in Klipfontein during a service. Nine congregants were allegedly held hostage before being robbed and kidnapped. The victims were allegedly tied with cable ties, searched, and robbed of phones, wallets, laptops, and a computer screen belonging to the church. Police further mentioned that the gang demanded car keys and phone PINs, then forced their victims into their three vehicles, a Mercedes-Benz, VW Polo, and an Isuzu KB Bakkie. The men allegedly drove the victims to a bushy area, where two perpetrators remained behind to guard them while the others fled, only to return later to collect their accomplices. The three vehicles were recovered later on the day in different areas. The Mercedes-Benz was found in Vosman, where a 21-year-old man was arrested. The VW Polo was found abandoned nearby, and the Isuzu KB Bakkie was recovered in Silverton, Gauteng, with a 27-year-old man who was also taken into custody. 'All nine victims were found, and one sustained minor injuries and was treated by medical personnel,' said Captain Eddie Hall, police spokesperson. With two suspects in custody and all vehicles recovered, the police remain steadfast in their pursuit of the remaining individuals. The two suspects are expected to appear in court soon. When duty meets sympathy – officers spot a gap and step in
Living the spirit of Mandela Month, members of the Witbank SAPS added to their daily duties a dustpan last Thursday, launching a cleanup initiative at the home of an elderly woman living in unsafe conditions with her grandchildren. The cleanup, held on July 24 in Klarinet, was led by Sergeant Fanishwa Matsabitsa, Captain Tshepo Kopano Paledi, and Lieutenant Colonel Linda Phungwayo, whose concern was first sparked during a duty call. 'We were on duty when we saw the house. We offered to help and not only because it's Mandela Month, but because as officers of the law, we understood safety risks that were posed by those broken windows,' Sergeant Matsabitsa said. 'We don't want criminals to have access to the house, whereas we can offer just a little to make a change,' she added. The officers took it upon themselves to organise a restoration effort. What began as a moment of concern soon turned into a determined act of service. Armed with cleaning tools and window panes, the team replaced shattered glass, mowed the unruly grass, and gave the home a deep clean from the inside out. The leading duo emphasised the hidden meaning of their efforts. 'Mandela Month isn't just about praising Madiba – It's about exercising what he stood for – Dignity, compassion, and action. We wanted this family to feel protected, not exposed,' they said. The SAPS team praised the granny's neighbors, specifically Elizabeth Dlamini, for their unwavering support throughout the initiative. They further emphasised that if it wasn't for the neighbors, they wouldn't achieve it. According to the SAPS team, the cleanup formed a part of their duty to promote safety within the community.
