On January 7, 2024, the Los Angeles Police Department arrested Chavez and charged him with Illegal Possession of Any Assault Weapon and Manufacture or Import Short Barreled Rifle. The boxer's last professional appearance was against Jake Paul. The former lost the bout via a unanimous decision. It was held on June 28, a day after Chavez Jr. was declared removable from the country.
