The fate of Nimisha Priya, the Malayali nurse facing execution in Yemen, appears to be brightening up following the intervention of Indian Grand Mufti and Sunni leader Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliar.
Discussions are currently under way to save Nimisha Priya from death. A meeting with the family of the deceased Yemeni national is scheduled on Tuesday (July 15, 2025) at 10 a.m. local time in Yemen.
Mr. Musliar intervened in the case through his friend and renowned Yemeni scholar Sheikh Habib Umar. As per Mr. Umar's request, a close relative of the deceased and the Chief Justice of Hudaydah State Court have reportedly arrived at Damar, Yemen, to take part in the discussions, said sources close to Mr. Musliar.
Mr. Umar is a member of the Yemen Shura Council and a follower of the Sufi order.
The victim's family has agreed to reconsider their stance following the intervention of Mr. Umar. The discussions are aimed at reaching a final decision on accepting the blood money and finding a reprieve for Nimisha.
Musliar's request to Yemeni govt
Meanwhile, Mr. Musliar requested the Yemeni government to stay the execution. The Yemeni government, according to sources, is likely to consider this request.
The case has been emotionally charged given the tribal and local significance of the incident in Yemen.

Pakistan's lies exposed, months after Operation Sindoor, Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar again spotted in Pakistan Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar, who has been the mastermind of several terror activities in India, has been spotted in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir's Gilgit-Baltistan region, according top fresh inputs. Interestingly, Pakistan's former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had recently claimed that Azhar is not in Pakistan and might have moved to Afghanistan. 'If and when the Indian government shares information with us that he is on Pakistani soil, we would be more than happy to arrest him,' Bhutto told Al Jazeera in a recent interview. According to a report in India Today, the designated terrorist, was recently seen in Skardu, which is more than 1,000 km away from his Bahawalpur stronghold. Where is Masood Azhar? Jaish's headquarters and Jamia Usman O Ali, a mosque located in a densely populated part of the city where his old residence also stands in proximity to a hospital, were targeted by India during Operation Sindoor. Masood Azhar has claimed that 10 members of his family and four of his aides were killed in India's targeted airstrikes under Operation Sindoor to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack. And then according to intelligence, he has gone underground. Azhar who is responsible for several terror attacks in India, including the attack on Parliament in 2001, was once in Indian custody before his associates hijacked an aircraft and exchanged Azhar for the release of passengers. China's latest actions are raising serious concerns for India's electronics industry. According to a letter from the industry body India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) to the Indian government, China's measures can disrupt India's supply chain and weaken its role as a global manufacturing hub. Informal Trade Restrictions By China China has imposed several informal trade restrictions on India which is a threat to India's growing electronics sector. Industry leaders have expressed fears that this could negatively impact exports. India had set a target of $32 billion in smartphone exports by the end of FY2026, but China's tactics can derail this goal. In FY2025 alone, India produced electronic goods worth $64 billion. ICEA, which counts Apple, Google, Motorola, Foxconn, Vivo, Oppo, Lava, Dixon, Flex, and Tata Electronics among its members, warned that these Chinese actions are increasing operational costs for companies and reducing confidence in India's electronics export potential. Why Does China Target India? China's response was after India's rapid growth in electronics exports. Since 2020, India has increased its smartphone manufacturing. In FY2025, India produced $64 billion worth of products and exported $24.1 billion of that. In FY2015, India was at 167th in smartphone exports. Today, it's among the top exporters, with expectations of reaching $32 billion in exports by FY2026. Another major trigger for China is Apple's shift in manufacturing from China to India. Earlier it was dependent on China for iPhone production but Apple has been moving operations to India since 2020 under the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. Through partners like Foxconn and Tata Electronics, Apple now manufactures about 20% of its global iPhones in India which has made dragon angry. $155 Billion Target at Risk China's recent moves can hamper India's long-term goal of achieving $155 billion in electronics manufacturing by 2030. ICEA warned that if the current disruptions are not resolved, India's share in global exports will reduce and will make it difficult for them to achieve their target. China's actions are causing operational challenges, higher production costs, and disruption within India's electronics sector. For instance, producing certain components locally and sourcing them from Japan or South Korea is 3 to 4 times more expensive than importing from China.
