Martyrdom anniversary of Hazrat Umar (RA): ASWJ organises major rally

KARACHI: Marking the martyrdom anniversary of the second Caliph of Islam, Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA), Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) organized a major rally titled 'Madah-e-Sahaba (RA) Demand March' from Lasbela Chowk in Karachi, with participants from various walks of life. Leaders of the organization, including ASWJ Pakistan President Allama Aurangzeb Farooqi, Allama Rab Nawaz Hanafi, Syed Muhiuddin Shah, Maulana Abdul Rafi Shah Bukhari, Maulana Umar Muawiya, and others addressed the crowd, calling for official recognition of the day at the state level and a nationwide public holiday in honor of Hazrat Umar (RA). Speaking at the event, Allama Aurangzeb Farooqi said that ASWJ has always promoted unity and peace and that observing the 'Ashra Farooq o Hussain' (Ten Days of Hazrat Umar and Hazrat Hussain) is a symbol of harmony and brotherhood. He expressed disappointment that banners related to these observances were reportedly removed in some areas, alleging administrative involvement. Farooqi urged the government to ensure such actions are not repeated, warning that such moves could lead to unrest. He further said Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA) was a close companion of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and played a pivotal role in the early Islamic state's strength and expansion. 'After the Prophet, had there been a prophet, it would have been Umar,' he quoted from a well-known Hadith. Other speakers emphasized that the legacy of Hazrat Umar (RA), particularly his just and visionary governance, should be promoted widely. ASWJ leaders maintained that for the past 40 years, the group has observed Youm-e-Umar (RA) annually, aiming to enlighten people about his contributions to Islam and justice. The rally ended with a call for the federal government to declare the martyrdom day of Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA) a national holiday and to officially commemorate the occasion, so that future generations can learn from the Caliph's exemplary character and leadership. Youths urged to tap into Malaysia's booming pineapple industry

JOHOR BAHRU: The Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (LPNM) is encouraging young entrepreneurs to explore the thriving pineapple industry, which promises substantial economic returns and innovation opportunities. LPNM chairman Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali highlighted the sector's potential for youth engagement, emphasising the role of technology and fresh perspectives in driving growth. 'Youth involvement can generate lucrative income and introduce modern approaches like IoT and mechanisation,' he said during the 2025 Malaysian Pineapple Day celebration. The event, themed 'Our Pineapple, Our Pride,' marked its inaugural edition, aligning with World Pineapple Day on June 27. Sheikh Umar noted that the celebration honours pineapple farmers and industry players while commemorating LPNM's legacy since 1957. He also revealed unofficial projections from the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), estimating earnings of up to RM8,000 per farmer this year. LPNM aims to raise this to RM10,000 under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP). Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu attended the event, reinforcing the government's support for agri-food development. Sheikh Umar stressed that while pineapples are not a staple food, they significantly impact Malaysia's trade balance. The biennial event seeks to invigorate the sector, addressing the current trade deficit in food imports versus exports.

Strategic push for pineapple industry expansion in Sarawak gains momentum

JOHOR BAHRU: The Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (LPNM) has announced that the pineapple cultivation and production area in Sarawak now stands at 2,450 hectares. LPNM chairman Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali said that to realise the Sarawak government's target of expanding pineapple plantations to 20,000 hectares by 2030, comprehensive cooperation from various parties was required. 'LPNM will continue to support and contribute in any way we can to help achieve this goal. We need to establish annual growth projections that must be met to expand pineapple cultivation,' he said at a press conference after the signing of the Kenyalang Pineapple Sarawak Project agreement between JG Sarava Sdn Bhd and Mate Clove Sdn Bhd at the LPNM headquarters, here today. Sheikh Umar said LPNM welcomed the strategic initiative, which aimed not only to scale up pineapple cultivation in Sarawak but also to encourage active participation from industry players. Meanwhile, JG Sarava Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Jeyarajan Sri Ramalu said the partnership inked today involved an initial investment of up to RM150 million to explore opportunities in developing the pineapple industry, which had high potential in the state. He said the project currently involves the cultivation of a pineapple plantation with a target area of 1,000 hectares, covering areas such as Bintangor, Pulau Bunut, and Kampung Lebaan. 'We have also identified other areas like Dalat, Oya and Debak, which are undergoing land clearing for cultivation. Mate Clove has already started work in these planting zones,' he said. He added that the project also focused on developing a nursery to overcome the shortage of pineapple slips (sulur) required for large-scale planting and aimed to expand cultivation to 12,000 hectares in the long term. In December 2023, the media reported that the Sarawak government planned to increase the pineapple plantation acreage in the state to 20,000 hectares by 2030.
