Rupali Ganguly, Anupamaa star, defended her right to question leaders after TMC's Nilanjan Das called her a "flop soap actress" for criticizing West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.
Television actor and Anupamaa star Rupali Ganguly has issued a strong response after facing criticism from Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Nilanjan Das. The latter had referred to her as a 'flop soap actress" on social media. The comment followed Rupali's remarks about West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's recent post concerning political issues in Assam.
The exchange began when Mamata Banerjee shared a statement on X (formerly Twitter), addressing the BJP's actions in Assam. Rupali, who is known for being vocal on social and political matters, questioned the Chief Minister's priorities, urging her to look into the state of affairs in West Bengal instead.
'Before shedding crocodile tears for Bengalis in other states, Mamata Didi must answer who will protect Bengalis in West Bengal itself? From Sandeshkhali to Murshidabad, the only atrocities on Bengalis are happening under her watch. Bengal has never been more unsafe for its own people," she wrote.
The post drew a sharp reaction from TMC leader Nilanjan Das, who replied, 'The seniormost stateswoman of India doesn't need lectures from a flop soap actress (sic)."
The comment did not go unnoticed. Rupali responded firmly, defending her right to question public leaders and highlighting what she described as an undemocratic attitude.
'Isn't your so-called 'senior-most stateswoman' a public servant, or she's a dictator who can't be questioned? But if you've already accepted her tyranny instead of her duty to the people, then congratulations on embracing dictatorship. Classic TMC behaviour," she replied.

Known for her roles in Sanjivani and the iconic Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, she began her career as a child actor in Saaheb (1985). Her ongoing role in Anupamaa has made her one of the most loved and highest-paid stars on Indian television today.

File Image/Reuters US Senator Lindsey Graham has said that President Donald Trump is preparing to slap hefty tariffs on nations continuing to buy Russian oil, with India, China, and Brazil in the crosshairs. Speaking to Fox News, Graham stated that Trump intends to impose a 100 per cent tariff on oil-related imports from these countries in a bid to choke off revenue to Russian President Vladimir Putin. 'Trump is going to impose tariffs on people that buy Russian oil – China, India, and Brazil,' Graham said, pointing out that these three nations are responsible for nearly 80 per cent of Russia's crude exports, which he claims are funding Moscow's war effort in Ukraine. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD According to Graham, the move is part of Trump's broader strategy to hold countries accountable for indirectly supporting Russia's war machine. 'President Trump's going to put a 100 per cent tariff on all those countries, punishing them for helping Putin,' he said. Graham said, 'You have played President Trump at your own peril. You made a major league mistake, and your economy is going to continue to be crushed. We're flowing weapons to Ukraine, so Ukraine will have the weapons to fight Putin back.' Senator Lindsey Graham accused Vladimir Putin of attempting to rebuild the Soviet empire by forcefully seizing neighboring nations. 'Putin is trying to reclaim countries that are not his,' Graham said, adding that the Russian leader has shown blatant disregard for international agreements. He pointed to Ukraine's decision in the mid-1990s to surrender over 1,700 nuclear weapons in exchange for security assurances, including a commitment from Russia to respect its sovereignty. 'Putin shattered that promise,' Graham noted, calling it a betrayal of the post-Cold War order.

Subsequently, he invited her to Bengaluru with marriage promises, where he allegedly raped her repeatedly at a hotel under duress. Prateek's family visited her residence and agreed to the marriage, the complainant said. An engagement ceremony took place in December 2023, with the wedding planned for May 2024. However, Prateek delayed the wedding, citing Lok Sabha elections and the monsoon. Prateek took her to Latur and Shirdi in Maharashtra, where he continued to threaten and sexually assault her, the complaint alleged. When her family approached Prateek's household to discuss the marriage, MLA Prabhu refused the alliance, she said. The case was registered under IPC sections 376(2)(N), 366, 324 and 506. At a media interaction on Monday, the woman appeared with her face covered and refuted Prabhu's allegations about her involvement with another boy. She said neither she nor her family had any political backing, and no one was orchestrating their actions. In last 21/7 before 2026 state poll, Mamata taps Bengali anger, pride

Kolkata: Trinamool's 2026 assembly poll strategy is likely to focus on tapping the Bengal-first sentiments of the state's 7.6 crore voters. The party's last Martyrs' Day rally before the 2026 election showcased Bengali migrant labourers "harassed in BJP-governed states and Bengal residents facing NRC queries" as chief minister Mamata Banerjee called for a renewed "Bhasha Andolan (language movement)" from next week. "Hold meetings and rallies every weekend to protest against the attack on your language," she exhorted the Esplanade audience — by all estimates larger than last year's crowd — as she asked Trinamool MPs to make the Mahatma Gandhi statue on the Parliament campus the venue of their protest against the "violence against Bengal" and urged sports persons and "people from cultural background" to join in. "Bowl them (the BJP) out" and "hit them for a six" combined with references to BJP and its allied organisations' "movements against eating fish and meat" as Banerjee used Bengal's love for sports, its cuisine and its language as a bulwark against BJP's "Hindu-Muslim" narrative. "Why are there attacks on the Bengali language? Bengal fought for freedom, the renaissance began in Bengal. We will take the fight to Delhi if Bengalis are arrested in other states. I am not one to back down. Remember Singur-Nandigram?" she asked. "They are vandalising shops and saying: 'Don't eat fish, don't eat meat.' I dare you to try doing it once in Bengal," Banerjee said, asking her audience to "speak more Bengali". "You saw the result of their attack on Vidyasagar's bust?" she asked BJP, referring to the 2019 incident on Bidhan Sarani that had a significant impact on voting in Kolkata. BJP would pay again, she said, accusing it of torturing Matuas in Maharashtra, sending "NRC letters" to Rajbanshis and "breaking a Kali temple in Assam". "You once used to accuse me of not allowing Durga Puja and Saraswati Puja. Now, all of a sudden, you have remembered Ma Durga and Ma Kali. Ma Durga is our state and the nation's asset. Durga Puja has been granted the United Nations intangible heritage status. We will have a Durga Aangan in Bengal just like Digha's Jagannath temple," she said, reminding the audience of "the central government circular on camps and detention centres". "Over 1,000 people have been imprisoned in Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan. Some are even being sent to Bangladesh," she said, adding that the BJP's comeuppance would come with "people imprisoning its leaders in future". Banerjee then accused the Election Commission of "sitting in Gujarat and disenfranchising Bengalis and removing Bengalis from the voters' list", promising protests in Delhi. "The EC has already removed 40 lakh names in Bihar," she added, before taking on her Assam counterpart, Himanta Biswas Sarma ("who cannot handle his own state properly)", for meddling in Bengal's affairs. She then invited Uttam Kumar Brajabasi to stand beside her on the dais. "Assam has sent an NRC notice to a person residing in Coochbehar for 50-odd years. They must answer for this," she said. Banerjee also targeted PM Narendra Modi, accusing him of being "controlled by America". "Why did you fail to get PoK? Where was your protest when the US sent back planes full of Indians back to India?" she asked before asking the audience to help her achieve "paribartan (change)" at Centre.
