Naidu launches ‘Talliki Vandanam', ₹10,091 crore to be disbursed for 67 lakh students

The Hindu12-06-2025
On the occasion of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government completing one year in office, the State government has decided to implement the 'Talliki Vandanam' (Salutation to Mother) scheme. As part of this, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu handed over the G.O.s (Government Orders) related to the scheme to Human Resources Development (HRD) Minister Nara Lokesh.
The Chief Minister, along with Mr. Lokesh, held a press conference on the one-year governance of the coalition government on Thursday.
Mr. Naidu said that among the 'Super Six' initiatives, Talliki Vandanam is the most crucial one. Under this scheme, ₹10,091 crore will be spent annually for 67.27 lakh students, out of which ₹1,346 crore will go towards improving school infrastructure.
'Higher allocation, more coverage'
''There is a major difference between Talliki Vandanam and the previous government's 'Amma Vodi'. They only covered 42,61,965 students, while the NDA government is covering 67,27,164 students, an increase of 24,65,199 beneficiaries. They spent ₹5,540 crore; the present government is allocating ₹8,745 crore, which is ₹3,205 crore more,'' he said.
Mr. Naidu said that out of the 67.27 lakh beneficiaries, 29.82 lakh are BCs, 11.76 lakh SCs, 4.26 lakh STs, 66,500 minorities, and 8.44 lakh EBC students. 'This is a step toward demographic equity,' he said, adding, there are 18,55,760 families with one child, 29,10,644 with two children, 6,32,052 with three, and 80,212 mothers with four children.
The Chief Minister explained that even students of Class 1 and Intermediate first year have been included, and once school admissions are confirmed, funds will be transferred. In the absence of mother, the amount will go to the father or guardian. For orphans, the District Collector will designate a recipient. The scheme will also cover 76,000 students studying in private unaided schools, he said.
'Whatever I promised, I am implementing it. We promised that no matter how many children a family has, every student would receive support under Talliki Vandanam, and today we have kept our word,' Mr. Naidu said.
Aid to farmers
Referring to other promises under Super Six, Mr. Naidu said that 'Annadata Sukhibhava' will be implemented on June 20 under which, including the Centre's contribution of ₹6,000, farmers will receive ₹20,000 in three instalments annually. ''The previous government gave only ₹7,500. Now farmers will get ₹6,500 additionally,'' he added.
The free bus travel for women will be implemented from August 15. 'Adabidda Nidhi' would be dovetailed with P4. Under the Deepam scheme, women are getting three free LPG cylinders. Thus all Super Six promises are being implemented,'' the Chief Minister said.

Nitish Kumar Will Be CM Again If NDA Wins Bihar, I'm Not Eyeing Deputy Post: Chirag Paswan

Last Updated: Speaking to CNN-News18, Paswan said rumours about Nitish Kumar's health are being blown out of proportion and are not a concern within the NDA Nitish Kumar will take oath as the Chief Minister again if the NDA wins the upcoming Bihar elections, Union Minister and LJP leader Chirag Paswan told CNN-News18 in an interview in Patna. Paswan also said he is not interested in becoming Deputy Chief Minister. This is significant, as there has been considerable speculation over whether the NDA would continue with Nitish Kumar as CM if the alliance wins. 'I am telling you on behalf of the alliance that Nitish Kumar will be the Chief Minister (again)," Paswan told CNN-News18. He said this will be irrespective of how many seats each NDA ally wins. Paswan also reiterated that he wants to contest from an Assembly seat this time, and that his party wants it to be a general seat. 'I am confident that the NDA alliance of five parties is a winning alliance. This time it will be an all-time high historic win for us with more than 225 seats. We have proved ourselves during recent by-polls. We won Belaganj, which the NDA had not won for over three decades," Chirag Paswan said. 'Don't See Myself in Centre': Paswan Paswan also revealed that CM Nitish Kumar had recently asked him if he was 'serious" about contesting the Assembly election. 'He wanted to know which area or Assembly seat I am looking at. I told him I wanted to, and it was my personal wish. I don't see myself too much in the Centre… my whole purpose of entering politics was for Bihar and Biharis. It is not possible to do it while living in Delhi as a third-time MP. So, it is high time I move back to my state," the Union Minister said. Paswan, however, made it clear that he was not aiming for any post like Deputy Chief Minister. 'It does not lure me… this urge of holding a post. If that was my priority, I wouldn't have left the alliance in 2020. Now, after our win and as per the strength of the party, everyone will be given their respective role in the government. I am not aiming for a Deputy CM role. If a situation comes, it will be a party member of ours, not me," he said. Nitish's Health Is Fine: Paswan Chirag Paswan also told CNN-News18 that talk about Nitish Kumar's health 'is being blown totally out of proportion of what it actually is" and dismissed such rumours. 'If it (Nitish's health) were an issue of concern, we would have discussed it inside the alliance. But it is not a concern," he said. Paswan laughed when asked how he harmed Nitish Kumar's party in the 2020 elections after contesting outside the NDA alliance. He, however, explained the context and said he has now buried the hatchet with Nitish Kumar. 'Immediately after the 2019 election, I felt my party and I were being cornered in the alliance. This was the time when my father was not keeping well. I was naïve and new, and they thought I wouldn't be able to pull it off like my father did," he said. 'I was not being asked or told things, and not being kept in the loop. I was not given the space. I have issues and concerns now too, but now I have been given the space inside the alliance to voice and address them," Paswan added. Seat-Sharing And Campaign Paswan told CNN-News18 that seat-sharing in the NDA in Bihar takes time but is eventually done amicably. 'It will be very wrong on my part if I share any figure with you before I do it inside the alliance," he said, when asked about his party's desired number of seats. He said the LJP has a superb strike rate and won all five Lok Sabha seats it contested a year ago, and hence wishes for a number of seats that reflects its performance. 'That is how it should be. Every ally should get seats as per their strength and winnability factor," Paswan said, laying his case for more seats. Paswan said he is holding rallies across the state—in Shahbad, Arrah, Rajgir—and will do one in July in Chhapra, followed by Munger and Gaya. 'This is to charge up our voters and make them understand how beneficial this double-engine government is for our state. PM has already visited Bihar seven times," Paswan said. ECI Campaign The Election Commission's campaign to revise electoral rolls in Bihar and seek documents from voters has been touted by the Opposition as a move to deprive people of their right to vote. Opposition parties have also moved the ECI against it. 'The Opposition is trying to create a perception in Bihar that what the ECI is doing is like nuisance—so that when they lose the Bihar elections now, they can blame this rather than the EVMs, which is a narrative that did not work," Paswan said. Paswan said the ECI is following a process that has been done before, and added that he does not understand why the Opposition is making such a big political issue out of it. 'The voter list has to be sanitised at regular intervals. There are some concerns about documents being available or not. But I think the local administration is more than available to help them with it, and we, as a party organisation, are helping the voters with it. We also have concerns about those who are not part of the voter list," Paswan told CNN-News18. With the NDA gearing up for a high-stakes battle in Bihar, Chirag Paswan's remarks signal a more unified front this time, despite past tensions with Nitish Kumar. CM steps in to protect interests of mango farmers

Kuppam (Chittoor district): Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has called on pulp industries and processing units to immediately step up and procure mangoes from farmers. At a high-level meeting held at his residence in Kuppam on Thursday, Naidu assured farmers that the state government was committed to protecting their interests and would also provide necessary assistance to industries to keep the supply chain moving. The meeting brought together mango farmers, industry representatives, and government officials from the erstwhile Chittoor district. Officials informed the Chief Minister that while 1.12 lakh metric tonnes of mangoes have already been procured, an additional 1.7 lakh metric tonnes are expected to be purchased. Farmers expressed frustration that pulp industries were holding back purchases, citing limited orders, lack of storage, and delays of up to four days just to unload produce. Responding to these concerns, Naidu urged industries to start immediate procurement to prevent losses at the farm level. He said the government would stand by them through policy-level support and infrastructure facilitation. Industry leaders flagged other pressing issues such as high import duties in European markets, while countries like Pakistan and those in Africa enjoyed tariff-free access. They urged the CM to take up the matter with the Centre and also pushed for a reduction in GST on mango pulp from 12 per cent to 5 per cent. Naidu said the government had already written to the Centre on GST and assured them he would pursue it again. Touching on the economics of mango farming, Naidu noted that yields currently range from 6 to 12 tonnes per acre. He stressed the need to ensure fair pricing for farmers while making processing units economically viable. He instructed industries to offer Rs 8 per kg without delay and to streamline the procurement process. The possibility of introducing mango juice in the midday meal scheme for schoolchildren was also raised. Naidu responded that eggs were already being provided as a nutritional supplement but agreed to examine the idea further. Calling for a shift to natural farming, the Chief Minister encouraged mango farmers to minimise chemical use and embrace sustainable practices. 'Global markets demand quality. Our produce must meet international standards through testing, tracing, and certification,' he said. Naidu also warned farmers against being misled by those attempting to politicise the situation. 'There are people trying to provoke you. Don't fall for their games. The government is solidly behind you,' he said. In an earlier media interaction, he criticised previous governments for failing to offer tangible support mango farmers. 'This year's crop is excellent, but the market is weak. That's why we must focus on food processing and value addition,' he added. Collector Sumit Kumar, horticulture commissioner Srinivasulu Reddy, Puthalapattu MLA K Murali Mohan, and MLC K Srikanth were among those present.

YSRCP will fight for public

Vizianagaram: YSRCP Legislative Council Opposition Leader Botsa Satyanarayana has criticised TDP and Jana Sena leaders for their threatening responses when questioned about unfulfilled election promises. At YSRCP district meeting led by ZP Chairman Majji Srinivasa Rao, he stated, 'Questioning a promise isn't a crime in a democracy.' Botsa emphasized, 'We won't be intimidated. We will insist that the government fulfils its promises.' He highlighted issues affecting women and farmers under Chandrababu Naidu, questioning why commitments like waiving DWCRA loans and the Rs 1,500 monthly payment under 'Adabidda Nidhi' have not been realized. He further noted that the promised Rs 3,000 monthly unemployment allowance has not been delivered, calling this a betrayal. Botsa warned that the YSRCP would escalate protests if the free bus travel scheme for women is not implemented, asserting that they are merely holding the government accountable for its own promises. Kurasala Kannababu, former minister and YSRCP regional coordinator, criticised the credibility of agreements made by Chandrababu and Pawan Kalyan, calling them 'words written on water.' He claimed only two schemes are being executed: 'Chandrababu's Betrayal Scheme and another version of it,' and remarked on Nara Lokesh's inability to deliver on promises made regarding the 'Annadata Sukhibhava' funds.
