Sebokeng youngster in Netherlands for pre-season tour with Chiefs
This Sebokeng-born youngster has been featuring in some of Chiefs' pre-season matches, and Sedibeng Ster Sport has been told that coach Nasreddine Nabi is impressed with his performance. Hlongwane was promoted to the Chiefs senior team after his impressive performance for the Chiefs DSTV Diski Challenge (DDC) team.
He also stunned many when he scored a brace against Magesi in the Carling Black Label exhibition match in December. Much was said and written about Hlongwane after this performance. He was all over the media and social media platforms, with Amakhosi hailing him as a wonderkid on the block – an answer to the club's scoring problems.
Not only that, he was rewarded for his outstanding performance with the Man of the Match Award. This is the same performance that caught the attention of Nabi, and Chiefs offered this youngster a professional contract. Hlongwane started his amateur football career playing for the Nale Development Academy in Vanderbijlpark. Before he joined Chiefs' development teams, Nale Development Academy recommended him to the U17 National Technical Team.
He was only 14 years of age when he joined the Chiefs' development. Hlongwane was instrumental when the Chiefs were crowned the DDC Champions for 2024/2025. He scored crucial goals for the team. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, a source who is close to the boy at Naturena said Nabi is happy with Hlongwane's performance.
'I do not doubt that the boy is going to be part of the coach's plan come next season. The good thing about the coach is that he believes in the youngsters, and Hlongwane won't struggle to fit in with his plans. We received feedback from the Netherlands that the boy is doing very well for the senior team,' said one of the club's development coaches.

Kaizer Chiefs strongest XI with new signings this season
Kaizer Chiefs will open their 2025/26 Betway Premiership season against Stellenbosch on 10 August. Having returned from their pre-season in the Netherlands, Amakhosi have just over two weeks to prepare for the big clash. Unfortunately for them, they won't feature in the MTN8 competition after failing to finish in the top 8 last season. This weekend, they will play Asante Kotoko of Ghana in the Toyota Cup in Durban, where supporters will see new players in action for the first time on South African soil. Goalkeeper: Brandon Petersen The experienced keeper appears to be Nabi's first-choice keeper this season. His leadership has been vital, especially in the final of the Nedbank Cup, where Amakhosi were victorious. Defenders: Reeve Frosler (RB) The experienced defender is more likely to be Kaizer Chiefs' first choice as opposed to new signing Thabiso Monyane. Dillan Solomons could also be used as a sub rather than a starter. Miguel Inacio (CB) Miguel is set to be the new Amakhosi captain with the departure of Yusuf Maart. He has looked solid in big games, but his disciplinary record has to improve. On his day, the Angolan international is one of the best defenders in the PSL. Aden McCarthy (CB) The young centre-back who impressed during pre-season in the Netherlands. He has become a new favourite and expect him to bench Given Msimango when in the opening matches. With regular centre-back Rushwin Dortley still not fit, McCarthy will no doubt be Miguel's defensive partner. Bradley Cross (LB) Bradley Cross is more likely to start ahead of Nkanyiso Shinga at left-back. Shinga has looked vulnerable and it's more likely that Nasreddine Nabi will opt for Cross in the opening matches. Paseka Mako could be an option when he recovers from injury. Midfielders: Thabo Cele (CM) Thabo Cele is no doubt Kaizer Chiefs' best player. Since his arrival, he had looked like the leader the club needs. During pre-season, he was far the best player and looks like he is getting more comfortable in the midfield role alongside Sibongiseni Mthethwa. Nkosingiphile Ngcobo (AM) Ngcobo has excelled this pre-season and looks like a different player. If he can carry the form that he showed in Holland, he will be an asset for Amakhosi this season. Siphesihle Ndlovu (DM) He might be one of Kaizer Chiefs' surprise signings. Ex-player Reneilwe Letsholonyane has praised the former SuperSport United midfielder, saying he is the kind of player who will fight for every ball and show commitment. Forwards: Makabi Lilepo (LW) The Congolese attacker is one of the few standout players from last season. He will no doubt start most of Amakhosi's matches but it remains to be seen if he will show the same explosiveness he showed in his first three months at the club. Pule Mmodi (RW) Mmodi has been hot and cold for Kaizer Chiefs and perhaps this could finally be his season where he impresses. Flavio Silva (Str) Nabi has always preferred to have a target man, hence he signed Silva. If the 29-year-old striker can find form early in the season, Amakhosi could play him upfront while Lilepo, Mmodi and Ngcobo provide. Kaizer Chiefs news: New season, doubts grow, deal delayed
As the new season edges closer, uncertainty is growing around Kaizer Chiefs' transfer dealings and overall squad readiness. After a trophy-winning campaign that ended a decade-long drought, expectations are (as always) high for Amakhosi, but recent developments have left fans and insiders uneasy. One of the club's most talked-about potential signings, Etiosa Ighodaro, has yet to be finalised, with the deal reportedly delayed due to last-minute negotiations and administrative holdups. While Chiefs remain interested, sources close to the matter say there is no confirmed contract on the table. 'The talks are still ongoing,' a club insider revealed. 'There is optimism, but no guarantee yet. It's taking longer than expected, and that's causing some frustration.' Despite lifting the Nedbank Cup recently, Kaizer Chiefs' cohesion and tactical sharpness remain a work in progress, sparking questions about whether the team is ready to challenge for major honours again. Head coach Nasreddine Nabi has been vocal about his ambitions but also about the challenges facing the club. 'We need the right players to strengthen the squad. Without that, it will be difficult to sustain success,' Nabi stated after winning the Nedbank Cup. 'My focus is on preparing the team, but the management must deliver on promises made regarding reinforcements.' Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Bafana midfield maestro says 'come get me' to Kaizer Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs have made contact with experienced Bafana midfielder Lebogang Phiri. 30-year-old Lebogang Phiri has had two stints with French side Guingamp, first signing for them in 2017 and rejoining them in 2024. Guingamp dropped out of Ligue 1 at the end of the 2018-2019 season after a six-year stay in the French top flight. Pitso Mosimane's son leaves Kaizer Chiefs for Italy Deep-lying playmaker Lebogang Phiri is a veteran of the European scene after stints in Denmark, France and Turkey. He's confirmed that giants Kaizer Chiefs are in touch. 'We had small talks with them, but I think it was the time they were going for a pre-season training camp abroad [in the Netherlands],' said Phiri via Soccer Beat . 'So, those [the negotiations] were stalled a bit. Hopefully, in the upcoming days, we will come up with something; if not, we will respect everybody who shows interest in me, whether it is locally or abroad,' the Johannesburg-born star concluded. Finally, some good news for Kaizer Chiefs fans Kaizer Motaung Jr has plenty to ponder as the 2025-2026 season rolls closer. Image: © Sydney Mahlangu Meanwhile, Chiefs believed that targets Luke Baartman and Asanele Velebayi were no longer contractually tied to the Mother City outfit Cape Town Spurs. This, after Spurs' relegation from the Motsepe Foundation Championship to the amateur ABC Motsepe League. Spurs are contesting Chiefs' claims in court. 22-year-old winger Velebayi made 23 appearances in the 2023-2024 Betway Premiership season. Striker Baartman, still just 19, made nine league appearances in the same season, scoring twice. Click for the story Let us know by leaving a comment below or sending a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211.
