Penguins could sign Connor McDavid to record-setting contract if he leaves Oilers
His current team still has to be considered the favorite to bring him back.
But the longer negotiations drag on, the more speculation will exist about a possible departure.

Bleacher Report recently published a list of possible McDavid destinations, and the Pittsburgh Penguins made the list.
Here's the B/R logic for a potential deal:
Mario Lemieux. Jaromir Jagr. Sidney Crosby. Evgeni Malkin.
Having the best players in the NHL is pretty much the Pittsburgh Penguins' calling card. Star power is in their DNA and has been for the past 40 years.
Why not continue that legacy?
Yes, the Penguins are in the early stages of a rebuild. They might not be particularly good during the 2025-26 season, and they might end up playing their way into the top of the draft lottery. Even with that being the case, general manager Kyle Dubas still seems adamant about competing again while Sidney Crosby is still playing.
The Penguins have a rapidly improving farm system that's only going to get stronger with their collection of draft picks over the next few years. Malkin is not likely to be back next season, and they are going to be swimming in salary-cap space over the next few years, especially if they move Erik Karlsson this offseason.
Imagine Crosby and McDavid on the same team for a few years before McDavid takes the torch and usher in a new chapter for the Penguins. The Penguins winning the Gavin McKenna lottery and having it play out that way is the more likely scenario, and it would track with the way the Penguins have acquired their previous collection of superstars, but this idea would be fun as well.

There would be something wonderfully fitting about a Crosby-McDavid partnership.
From one top Canadian player of his generation to the next, it'd feel almost like a passing of the torch.
Along with the logic above, the Penguins would certainly have to look this season like they're a team truly on the upswing. If not, there'd be no chance McDavid risks his prime there.
But the Penguins would, just like most other teams, give him a record-setting contract. Money won't be the object. It'll be all about fit.

And McDavid with Crosby would certainly form a very cool fit.

Maple Leafs linked to 22-goal forward to help replace Mitch Marner
The Toronto Maple Leafs aren't done. They know that to replace Mitch Marner, they'll need to bring in layers of production from outside the organization. So a week into free agency, Toronto is seeking another forward. Advertisement NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has linked the Maple Leafs to Jack Roslovic. Roslovic is a 28-year old center. He's coming off a 22-goal season with the Carolina Hurricanes, which tied his career high. MORE: Red Wings forward announces shock NHL retirement at age 28 He might not have major upside, but he's a consistent top-nine forward who can add an overall offensive depth to Toronto's roster. Roslovic is certainly one of the few best forward options remaining in unrestricted free agency. If Toronto can't pull this signing off, it may take a trade to improve the forward group. There are possibilities out there for the Maple Leafs to acquire via trade, but it certainly makes sense to try and lock Roslovic down and then potentially supplement with a deal once they know exactly what the rest of the depth chart will look like. Bruins linked to Connor McDavid and record-setting 7-year contract ahead of pivotal choice
Don't count out anyone when it comes to the possible Connor McDavid sweepstakes of next offseason. If the Edmonton Oilers superstar doesn't sign a new contract after his current deal is up at the end of the 2025-26 season, everyone will be interested. Advertisement The Boston Bruins would certainly be on that list. Bleacher Report sees Boston as a possibility, explaining it like this: Even though they have rapidly arrived in the NHL's mushy middle of mediocrity, the Bruins do not seem prepared to start rebuilding or tearing things down. To be more than what they were this past season and more than what their roster figures to look like this upcoming season, they'll need a game-changing No. 1 center. That has been their biggest need since Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci retired, and the likes of Casey Mittelstadt, Pavel Zacha and Elias Lindholm are not going to satisfy it. McDavid obviously would. The Bruins are in a big market and are an Original Six franchise that still has eyes on winning. That could potentially be appealing to McDavid. The Bruins are listed last on the B/R list. They're probably a bit of a long shot compared to a team like the Maple Leafs or Rangers. MORE: Red Wings forward announces shock NHL retirement at age 28 But there will likely be a number of factors at play here. McDavid will surely get a record-setting contract, potentially of the max seven-year variety (or eight years in a sign-and-trade). He'll have to make the huge choice to leave Edmonton, of course. But if he does that, anything could happen, even a joining with the Bruins. Advertisement MORE NHL NEWS:

Pitsburgh Pirates insider reveals 6 teams on Bryan Reynolds' no-trade list
The Pittsburgh Pirates are poised to be sellers at the MLB trade deadline with the likes of Ke'Bryan Hayes and Bryan Reynolds drawing significant interest. While Reynolds might be moved, the All-Star outfielder has a no-trade clause that allows him to block a deal to six teams. Pirates' reporter Noah Hiles of Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Reynolds has a six-team no-trade clause. Those six teams are the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, San Diego Padres, Toronto Blue Jays, and the New York Mets. Advertisement Related: Pair of Pirates' relievers eyed by Philadelphia Phillies Bryan Reynolds contract (Spotrac): $12.25 million salary (2025), $14.25 million salary (2026), $15.25 million salary (2027-2030), $20 million club option for 2031 The no-trade list could significantly impact the Pirates' ability to move Reynolds this summer. All six teams are poised to be buyers at the MLB trade deadline, with the Mets, Dodgers, and Padres all in the market for outfield help this summer. To make matters worse, Reynolds is in the midst of one of the worst seasons of his career. He's on pace to finish under 20 home runs for the first time in a full season since 2019, and he has a sub-.700 OPS for only the second time in his major league career. Bryan Reynolds stats (ESPN): .235/.301/.389, .690 OPS, 10 home runs, 30 RBI, 16 doubles in 324 at-bats If Reynolds isn't willing to amend his no-trade list, it would leave clubs like the Houston Astros, Seattle Mariners, and the Philadelphia Phillies as the lone potential landing spots. Advertisement Considering Reynolds' production dip this season, it could compel the Pirates to hold off on trading him until the offseason. Otherwise, Pittsburgh will have to hope the All-Star outfielder is willing to change his mind. Related Headlines
