'Most of the money generated comes from India': Ravi Shastri advocates for larger share of revenue pie for BCCI

Former India cricket cricketer and head coach
Ravi Shastri
has defended the International Cricket Council's decision to allocate 38.5 percent of its total revenue to India for the 2024-27 cycle, stating it is fair given India's contribution to cricket's global revenues.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will receive approximately Rs. 1,968 crore annually, which is six times more than England and Wales Cricket Board's 6.89 percent and Cricket Australia's 6.25 percent share.
The revenue distribution model, announced in 2023, has sparked discussions in the cricket world, with some boards expressing concerns about the disproportionate allocation. The remaining 12 percent of the revenue is distributed among nine other cricket-playing nations.

Shastri has emphasised that the revenue share should be proportional to the income generated, pointing out that India contributes significantly to cricket's global earnings through television rights and series revenues.
"I would want more for India because most of the money that's generated comes from India. So it's only fair that they get their share of pound of flesh.
It's relative, it's economies, if tomorrow there might be another economy that's stronger. Money might come from there like it did in the 70s, 80s and the chunk of the money went to, went somewhere else. So I think it's only fair and, it just shows in the revenues when India travel, look at the television rights, look at the television income that comes for an India series.
So it's only fair that they get. Whatever they're getting now, if not more," Shastri stated in an interview with
Wisden
.
The distribution model has faced criticism from other cricket boards, particularly those outside the Big Three - India, England, and Australia. These boards argue that the current model could impede cricket's growth in other nations.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been notably vocal in its opposition to the revenue distribution model. They have demanded more transparency in how the allocation figures were determined.
"We are insisting that the ICC should tell us how these figures were arrived at. We are not happy with the situation as it stands. Come June, when the board is expected to approve the financial model, unless these details are provided to us, we are not going to approve it," former PCB chairman Najam Sethi had told Reuters.

Property Tax Receipts Rise 20%,89Cr Collected In First Quarter

1 2 Nagpur: Approximately 22.98% of Nagpur's 8.36 lakh property owners paid their taxes in the first quarter of the 2025–26 financial year to avail the rebate scheme — 15% for online and 10% for offline payments — offered by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) for the period. Between April 1 and June 30, as many as 1,92,324 taxpayers collectively paid Rs88.85 crore in property tax. Of the total, 96,993 property owners used online platforms like the NMC website, the My Nagpur mobile app, and the WhatsApp chatbot, paying a total of Rs 49.92 crore. The remaining 95,331 taxpayers paid Rs35.97 crore at zonal offices and special camps. The trend signals both improved compliance and a rising preference for digital modes of payment. NMC commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari rolled out the rebate scheme to encourage early payments. The scheme, backed by an aggressive outreach strategy, was instrumental in improving the tax collection. In the light of early trends and collection patterns, Chaudhari has revised the revenue target to Rs400 crore from Rs350 crore set earlier. Compared to Rs73.13 crore collected in the same quarter last year, this year's tally marks a 20% increase — affirming the success of NMC's digital push and incentive-led model. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Perdagangkan CFD Emas dengan Broker Tepercaya IC Markets Mendaftar Undo Post the first quarter, the civic body is offering rebates of 10% for online and 5% for offline property tax payments made till Dec 31, 2025. For effective implementation of the drive, Chaudhari chaired several review meetings with the tax department. Additional commissioner Vaishnavi B personally monitored zone-wise performance and visited properties to ensure ground level execution. Deputy commissioner Milind Meshram supervised the setting up of special tax camps in zonal offices, public gardens, housing societies, and schools. Taxpayers were encouraged to use their Unique Property Identification Number (UPIN) to quickly access their records and make payments online. Many preferred the convenience of paying from home, avoiding queues and travel. The civic body also ran creative awareness campaigns featuring characters like Sholay's Gabbar Singh to catch public attention. Slogans such as 'I Am a Responsible Taxpayer' were put up across the city and widely shared on social media, contributing to the enthusiastic public response. A last-minute rush on June 30, the final day for rebates, saw a record-breaking collection of Rs 5.88crore in a single day. Several zonal offices operated late into the night to handle the surge. Among the ten zones, Laxmi Nagar led with collections of Rs13.90 crore, followed by Hanuman Nagar (Rs11.37 crore) and Mangalwari (Rs10.81 crore). Trump says US could reach trade deal with India, casts doubt on deal with Japan

By Andrea Shalal and David Lawder Trump says US could reach trade deal with India, casts doubt on deal with Japan WASHINGTON -The United States could reach a trade deal with India that would help American companies compete in the South Asian country and leave it facing far lower tariffs, President Donald Trump said on Tuesday, while casting doubt on a possible deal with Japan. Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that he believed India was ready to lower barriers for U.S. companies, which could pave the way for an agreement staving off the 26% rate he announced on April 2, before pausing it until July 9. "Right now, India doesn't accept anybody in. I think India is going to do that, if they do that, we're going to have a deal for less, much less tariffs," he said. Earlier, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Fox News that the U.S. and India are nearing a deal that would lower tariffs on American imports to the South Asian country and help India avoid levies from rising sharply next week. "We are very close with India," Bessent told Fox News in response to a question about progress on trade negotiations. Indian officials extended a visit to Washington last week through Monday to try to reach agreement on a trade deal with President Donald Trump's administration and address lingering concerns on both sides, Indian government sources told Reuters. A White House official familiar with the talks said the Trump administration plans to prioritize securing trade deals with countries including India ahead of Japan in the days leading up to the July 9 deadline. India is one of more than a dozen countries actively negotiating with the Trump administration to try to avoid a steep spike in tariff rates on July 9, when a 90-day tariff pause ends. India could see its new "reciprocal" tariff rate rise to 27% from the current 10%. The U.S.-India talks have hit roadblocks over disagreements on import duties for auto components, steel, and farm goods, ahead of Trump's deadline to impose reciprocal tariffs. "We are in the middle hopefully more than the middle of a very intricate trade negotiation," Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar told an event in New York on Monday. "Obviously, my hope would be that we bring it to a successful conclusion. I cannot guarantee it, because there's another party to that discussion," said Jaishankar, who is in the U.S. for a meeting of the China-focused Quad grouping. He added that there "will have to be give and take" and the two sides will have to find middle ground. TRUMP SUGGESTS HIGHER TARIFF FOR JAN Bessent told Fox News that different countries have different agendas for trade deals, including Japan, which Trump complained about on Monday and again on Tuesday. Trump said he was not thinking of extending the July 9 deadline and would simply send letters notifying countries of the tariff rate they would face. "We've dealt with Japan. I'm not sure we're going to make a deal. I doubt it," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One as he returned to Washington from a trip to Florida. Trump suggested he could impose a tariff of 30% or 35% on imports from Japan - well above the 24% tariff rate he announced on April 2 and then paused until July 9. He said Japan was refusing to accept U.S.-grown rice, a demand made by Washington that he described as "an easy one," while selling millions of cars in the United States. "So what I'm going to do, is I'll write them a letter saying we thank you very much, and we know you can't do the kind of things that we need, and therefore you pay a 30%, 35% or whatever the numbers that we determine," he said. So far, only Britain has negotiated a limited trade deal with the Trump administration, accepting a 10% U.S. tariff on many goods, including autos, in exchange for special access for aircraft engines and British beef. Patrick Mahomes vs. Tom Brady, Manning, and Rodgers: How his first 7 seasons are reshaping NFL GOAT debate

Patrick Mahomes is turning the NFL GOAT debate into a one-man show (Image via: Getty Images) Patrick Mahomes has completed seven seasons as the Kansas City Chiefs' starting quarterback, and his numbers are already rewriting the NFL history books. With multiple MVPs, three Super Bowl rings, and unmatched production across key stats, Mahomes has clearly separated himself from legends like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Aaron Rodgers. Patrick Mahomes' record-breaking first 7 NFL seasons, compared to Brady , Manning, and Rodgers In a recent graphic shared by NFL on CBS, Mahomes was compared to Brady, Manning, and Rodgers in categories like wins, passing yards, touchdowns, interceptions, passer rating, MVPs, and Super Bowl victories. In nearly every area, Mahomes came out on top—or extremely close. Through 111 games, Mahomes leads with the most wins and the fewest losses, edging out Brady by two wins and one fewer loss. He has thrown for 32,068 yards, making him the only quarterback in the group to cross the 30,000-yard mark at this stage. That's nearly 3,000 more than Manning, who was previously known for his early-career yardage totals. Touchdown numbers also tilt heavily in Mahomes' favor. With 261 touchdowns, he's 20 ahead of Rodgers and 48 ahead of Brady. Despite his aggressive style, Mahomes has kept turnovers relatively low. Only Rodgers has thrown fewer interceptions (56), compared to Mahomes' 73. Passer rating, a strong indicator of quarterback efficiency, also highlights Mahomes' elite status. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like דיור מוגן איכותי בשרון לא חייב להיות יקר בית גיל פז Undo Rodgers leads with 106.6, but Mahomes is close behind at 102.3, well ahead of both Brady and Manning, who were below 94 during the same stretch.
