McDonald's big announcement takes effect tomorrow: 2 major menu changes you should know about
Beginning Tuesday, July 8, 2025, customers across the United States will be able to enjoy a spicier twist to their mornings and welcome back a long-lost fan favourite.
In a bold move to cater to younger, spice-loving consumers, McDonald's is rolling out a new Spicy McMuffin range for a limited time only. These fiery additions to the breakfast menu include:
Egg McMuffin with Spicy Pepper Sauce
Spicy Sausage McMuffin with Egg
The key ingredient turning up the heat is McDonald's new Spicy Pepper Sauce, designed to give a flavourful kick to the classic morning sandwich.
According to a report from Instacart and the Harris Poll, 74% of Americans consume hot sauce regularly, and a notable 78% of Gen Z shoppers say they're more likely to purchase products marketed as spicy — a trend McDonald's appears keen to embrace.
The company said in a statement:
'The word on the street is we're turning up the heat on breakfast this summer. Starting July 8, you can add some kick to your morning routine with the sizzling debut of Spicy McMuffin breakfast sandwiches, available at participating restaurants nationwide. This limited-time glow-up includes everything you already love about the iconic Egg McMuffin … plus a fiery, delicious twist: a shot of McDonald's signature Spicy Pepper Sauce. Fans can also enjoy the Spicy Sausage McMuffin and the Spicy Sausage McMuffin With Egg.'
First introduced in 1972, the Egg McMuffin helped McDonald's break into the breakfast market. Although founder Ray Kroc was initially sceptical, the sandwich became a mainstay — and now, over five decades later, it's getting a modern, spicy upgrade.
In what is likely to be the most anticipated comeback of the year for fans, Snack Wraps are officially returning to all 13,600 McDonald's locations across the United States on Thursday, July 10, 2025.
Discontinued in 2016, the Snack Wraps developed a devoted fanbase that never gave up hope. Their return has been rumoured since late 2024, and now it's finally confirmed.
Customers will once again be able to enjoy the signature wraps filled with:
Mild Cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese
Choice of Ranch or Spicy Pepper Sauce
All wrapped in a flour tortilla
This move reflects McDonald's increasing responsiveness to customer demand — especially from social media communities who have continuously campaigned for the item's return.
What It Means for McDonald's Fans
These two changes signal a strategic shift for McDonald's, aiming to win over younger customers and spice enthusiasts while also leaning into nostalgia for discontinued favourites. With the Spicy McMuffin and Snack Wraps both launching this week, fast food lovers will have plenty to look forward to.
Whether you're a long-time fan of McDonald's breakfast or eagerly awaiting the return of a lunchtime legend, these changes take effect tomorrow and later this week — so be ready to get in line.

McDonald's India launches first of its kind ‘Protein Plus Slice' in collaboration with CSIR-CFTRI
McDonald's India (West & South), operated by Westlife Foodworld, has taken another bold step forward in its journey of mindful indulgence by giving customers the power to personalize their protein intake like never before. The brand today announced the launch of its innovative 'Protein Plus Range', featuring a first-of-its-kind 100% vegetarian, plant-based 'Protein Slice' that adds 5 grams of protein to any burger. For the first time in the QSR industry, McDonald's is revolutionizing how people eat at its restaurants by allowing customers to add one, two, or even three Protein Plus slices to their favourite burgers. This breakthrough empowers customers with greater nutritional choice, without compromising on the great taste they love. The slice integrates seamlessly into McDonald's existing burgers, allowing customers to increase their protein consumption with ease. For example, with the Protein Slice added, the McSpicy Paneer offers 25.29g of protein, the McChicken delivers 20.66g, the McVeggie has 15.24g, and even the iconic McAloo Tikki, a balanced meal by itself, provides 13.5g of protein, redefining possibilities in a QSR. The Protein Plus Slice has been developed in collaboration with the prestigious CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), under the Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India. Made from 100% vegetarian ingredients, including soy and pea, the Protein Plus Slice contains no artificial colours or flavours and is free from onion and garlic, making it suitable for a wide range of dietary preferences. Akshay Jatia, Chief Executive Officer, Westlife Foodworld said, 'At McDonald's India, we have always believed in giving our customers more choice, and this time, we are giving them the power to personalize their protein intake. The Protein Plus Range allows them to enjoy their favourite McDonald's burgers without compromising on their protein needs or the taste. It also reflects our ongoing commitment to our 'Real Food, Real Good' philosophy, bringing together flavour, nutrition, and food science. We are grateful to CSIR-CFTRI for partnering with us to bring this forward-thinking product to life. Together, we remain committed to crafting menu items that are both wholesome and delicious, combining locally available ingredients in a way where great taste and nutrition go hand in hand.' CSIR-CFTRI's scientific expertise and deep understanding of protein research helped create a slice that delivers high nutritional value while maintaining the signature taste, texture, and quality that McDonald's is known for. This marks McDonald's India's second strategic partnership with CSIR-CFTRI, following the successful launch of the Multi-Millet Bun last year. Dr. Sridevi Annapurna Singh, Director, CSIR-CFTRI said, 'Building on our earlier success with the Multi-Millet Bun, we are excited to continue our partnership with McDonald's India to advance nutritional innovation in the QSR space. The Protein Plus slice is an outcome of science-backed formulation and a shared vision to elevate everyday meals through nutrition. This partnership showcases how industry and scientific institutions can come together to bring meaningful nutritional upgrades to mainstream eating.' Shri Yogesh Kadam, Hon'ble Minister of State for Food and Drugs Administration, Government of Maharashtra, inaugurated this nutrition-focused initiative today in Mumbai, emphasizing the growing need for safer and nutritious food choices that meet the nutritional needs of today's consumers. The event was also graced by senior officials from the Maharashtra Food and Drugs Administration, including Shri Rajesh Narvekar, Hon'ble Commissioner of Food Safety, Maharashtra State, and Shri Mangesh Mane, Joint Commissioner (Food), Headquarters. Addressing the audience, Yogesh Kadam stated, 'Initiatives like these align with the preamble of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, which aims to ensure the availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption. They also reflect the vision of the 'Eat Right India' movement by FSSAI — promoting safe, nutritious, and sustainable food choices across the country. It is heartening to see scientific research institutions and industry leaders come together to contribute toward national nutrition goals. This partnership model is vital for strengthening our public health landscape.' The Protein Plus Meals will be available in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. The vegetarian Protein Plus Meal includes a burger enhanced with the Protein Slice, paired with a protein-rich corn cup and Coke Zero. The non-vegetarian option includes the McCrispy Chicken with Protein Slice, 4-piece Chicken McNuggets, and Coke Zero, delivering a wholesome, protein-enriched meal. The launch is a key milestone in McDonald's India's Real Food, Real Good journey, which began seven years ago. Staying true to this philosophy, the brand maintains an unwavering focus on quality, ensuring its menu items are free from artificial colours, artificial flavours, and artificial preservatives, and with no added MSG in the chicken offerings. McDonald's India continues to use fresh, locally sourced ingredients from globally recognized suppliers building on nearly three decades of customer trust. This innovation reflects the brand's deep understanding of the growing awareness and demand for protein among Indian consumers. The new Protein Plus range is now available across McDonald's restaurants in West and South India. Customers can now savour their favourite burgers with the added nutritional goodness of protein, whether dining in, picking up via Drive-Thru, or ordering from the comfort of their homes through the McDelivery app.

McPatel takes on McDonald's over ‘Mc' monopoly
In what promises to be the mother of all delicious legal battles over the use of 'Mc', which means 'son of', a local food company, McPatel Foods Pvt Ltd, has dragged global fast-food giant McDonald's Corporation to the court. The Ahmedabad -based firm, which sells French fries under the brand 'Ohh! Potato', filed a trademark suit accusing McDonald's of issuing 'groundless threats' over its use of the prefix. Last month, McPatel moved the Ahmedabad rural court, seeking to restrain McDonald's from objecting to the use of 'Mc' in its name. The suit was filed under Section 142 of the Trademark Act to prevent the multinational company from issuing 'groundless threats'. According to senior counsel H S Tolia, representing McPatel, 'McDonald's issued a notice to McPatel claiming that the prefix Mc is its identity and insisted that the local company should stop using this prefix or else it would take legal action. Since initiating mediation proceedings is a prerequisite before filing a commercial suit, McDonald's instituted mediation proceedings in the Delhi high court and McPatel participated in it. However, McDonald's was adamant that McPatel must not use Mc in its trademark and the parties could not reach any compromise.' 'Since the mediation proceedings did not yield any result, McPatel filed a suit in the Ahmedabad rural court, seeking to restrain McDonald's from threatening it with legal action,' added Tolia. 'This is because McPatel is entitled to use the prefix Mc on several counts. We contend that the prefix Mc is very generic, and it means 'son of'. By citing different examples of the use of this prefix, we have stated that the name suggests the son of Patel. It is aimed at honouring the Patel community .' The court has issued a notice to McDonald's and scheduled a hearing on the matter for July 28.

Why Walmart Is Overhauling Its Approach to AI Agents
Walmart is overhauling its AI agent strategy as it aims to simplify the user experience. Agents refer to artificial intelligence tools that can independently take some action on behalf of a user, and Walmart in recent months has built dozens. Maybe too many, since they were typically accessed through different interfaces in different systems, and things were starting to get confusing for users. Now the retail giant is taking a step back and consolidating all those agents into four discrete interfaces it calls 'super agents.' One is for customers, one is for employees, one is for engineers, and one is for sellers and suppliers, the company said. The super agent for each group will tap the capabilities of a number of behind-the-scenes agents, all in a single unified experience. The company plans to announce the changes Thursday. 'It became very clear that we could dramatically simplify,' said Suresh Kumar, Walmart's chief technology officer and chief development officer. 'If I have an agent that helps you with your payroll and I have a different agent that helps you with identifying merchandising trends, you shouldn't have to remember that and switch between those two.' Kumar said the shift is a natural evolution based on the fact that the company found so many different use cases for AI agents. The technology has buy-in at all levels at Walmart, starting with the leadership at the very top, he said. 'Artificial intelligence is already changing how we work,' said Walmart Chief Executive Doug McMillon. 'Learning and applying what we learn, as we build new tools, is the responsibility and an opportunity for all of us to improve experiences for our customers, members and fellow associates.' Deepening its AI push, the company Wednesday said it hired Daniel Danker, an executive at Instacart, as the head of global AI acceleration, product and design, reporting to McMillon. The company said it also is recruiting an AI platforms leader that will report to Kumar. John Furner, CEO of Walmart's U.S. division, said it is critical to stay ahead of the technology curve in an area like retail, where the top 10 retailers can change dramatically decade to decade. Walmart's customer-facing super agent, Sparky, is live. Furner said he believes AI agents will help deliver top-line growth, as they give customers more personalized and enticing shopping experiences, as well as bottom-line savings, where they can help manage supply chains and inventory more efficiently, among other areas. Walmart's situation is unique, with most companies still figuring out how to deploy even one AI-powered agent that can perform a task autonomously or in coordination with humans. The four super agents are at different stages of development. The customer-facing super agent, Sparky, is already live, although it will continue to expand its capabilities from here. Marty, the supplier-facing super agent, is expected to launch in the coming months, according to the company, and will ultimately include functions like checking the analytics on purchases and suggesting and putting into motion advertising campaigns. The employee and engineering super agents are expected in the next year. The employee agent will ultimately be able to take actions like checking in on an employee's eligibility if they report losing their discount card, and then issuing a new one. Walmart said it is connecting these various agents using an open-source standard known as Model Context Protocol, or MCP, which was introduced by AI company Anthropic in November. MCP enables the super agent interface to call other smaller agents as well as internal apps and data sources. But when Walmart first started building agents, MCP wasn't super widespread, Kumar said. Now the company is going back and making sure older agents conform with the standard, he added. But the upshot is big, Kumar said. A simplified interface is likely to drive much more adoption of the tools, he added. Having too many agents in too many disparate locations wasn't very intuitive for users, Kumar said. 'That's what we're trying to avoid.' Write to Isabelle Bousquette at
