'Stranger Things' Season 5 release dates revealed: Episode titles, cast members — and what we know so far about the final season's release
With so many questions still unanswered (will Max ever wake up from her coma? What will happen to the town of Hawkins now that the Upside Down is invading?!), it's hard to believe we're nearing the end of Stranger Things. Since its debut in the summer of 2016, the series has built a world filled with supernatural suspense, iconic characters (RIP Eddie!) and ride-or-die friendships. It's also a love letter to all things '80s, celebrating everything from Dungeons & Dragons to hanging at the roller rink — all with an epic synth soundtrack. Soon, we'll all be wistful for the series that made nostalgia cool.
Here's everything we know so far about the upcoming season of Stranger Things.
Season 4 of Stranger Things followed the Hawkins crew as they tried to stop Vecna, a powerful new villain with ties to Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown). Vecna, once known as Henry Creel, was the first child experimented on by Dr. Brenner (Matthew Modine) in the Hawkins lab, but after Eleven defeated him as a child, he was sent to the Upside Down.
At the beginning of the season, Vecna exacted his revenge with a string of teen murders, leading the gang to team up to defeat him. Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Max, Eleven, Will (Noah Schnapp), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), Steve (Joe Keery), Nancy (Natalia Dyer) and Robin (Maya Hawke) worked together across different locations and dimensions to stop Vecna, but unfortunately, it didn't go quite as well as they hoped: In the season finale, Vecna's still around, Max is in a coma and the Upside Down is starting to take over the real world.
Expect the holidays to get a little stranger this year. The first four episodes of the season, coined "Volume 1," will drop on Nov. 26 — the day before Thanksgiving. "Volume 2," with three episodes, is slated to drop on Christmas. The show won't release its final episode, "Volume 3," until New Year's Eve. This marks the first time that the series will release just one episode separately from the rest of the show — meaning that the last episode will be an event all its own.
Each part is slated to drop at 5 p.m. PT on its release date. Netflix is planning on dropping all of these episodes at the same time worldwide.
Stranger Things Season 5 will consist of eight episodes — and we already know their names. The final season of Stranger Things features eight episodes titled 'The Crawl,' 'The Vanishing of …,' 'The Turnbow Trap,' 'Sorcerer,' 'Shock Jock,' 'Escape from Camazotz,' 'The Bridge' and 'The Rightside Up.'
While we don't know how long each Stranger Things episode will be, Wolfhard, who plays Mike, told Collider that while some episodes run closer to 45 minutes, we should expect others to be as long as a feature film. That checks out, given the longer runtime of Season 4's episodes — including the finale, which clocked in at two hours and 24 minutes.
Ross Duffer, who cocreated the series with his brother Matt Duffer, said at the Next on Netflix event in January that they spent a full year filming the season, and that, by the end, they had captured over 650 hours of footage. 'So, needless to say, this is our biggest and most ambitious season yet,' he said. 'It's like eight blockbuster movies. It's pretty, pretty insane.'
And Bower previously told Netflix that while Season 4 of the show was 'big,' the show's final season 'definitely feels bigger.'

Stranger Things is adding new cast members Nell Fisher, Jake Connelly and Alex Breaux to the show's final season. And staying true to its pattern of casting '80s icons — like its star Winona Ryder and cast members like The Goonies star Sean Astin and Aliens' Paul Reiser — the series has also cast The Terminator's Linda Hamilton in a role that is still under wraps.
Netflix released a short teaser for the upcoming season with its release date. While most of the clips are from previous seasons, we do get a sprinkle of new footage — including Will staring up at something big and shouting "Run!" Gulp.
The show also released a behind-the-scenes video from the filming of the upcoming season.
Matt Duffer revealed in a press release earlier this year that the new season has 'no time for a ramp-up,' meaning it's 'going to be intense from beginning to end.' And Ross noted that the new season will feel 'familiar' to longtime fans of the series. 'This season is the biggest it's ever been in scale, but everyone's back together in Hawkins, interacting the same way they were in Season 1.'
According to the official Stranger Things episode title announcement, Season 5 picks up in the fall of 1987, more than a year after Season 4, which unfolds in March of 1986.
But eagle-eyed fans noticed something quite interesting in footage of Harbour and Wolfhard filming Stranger Things in Atlanta, which is a stand-in for downtown Hawkins. On the set, there is reportedly a movie theater advertising Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade — a movie that came out in 1989, two years after the series picks up again. So it's possible, though hardly confirmed, that we may see our characters throughout a wider time span than in previous seasons.
One of the bigger theories heading into Season 5 involves the resurrection of metalhead Eddie, played by Joseph Quinn. Eddie was tragically swarmed by demobats in Season 4, leading to his demise — but some think his manner of death is a clue that he could return in a new form. It all has to do with the Dungeons & Dragons story of Kas the Bloody-Handed, a warrior who was killed by Vecna and later resurrected as a bloodsucker. So far, though, Quinn has not confirmed a return to the Netflix series … but if this is the case, it's not like he would ruin the surprise.
Another theory points to how Stranger Things might end — and it's pretty depressing for Eleven. One theory popular with fans is that Eleven will take Vecna's place as the ruler of the Upside Down, but instead of it being a dark, gloomy hellscape, she'll use her psychic abilities to create a paradise. That means, of course, she'll leave dad Hopper and boyfriend Mike in the real world … unless they can vacation there on school breaks?!
You can learn more about Vecna's backstory in the special-effects-heavy stage show Stranger Things: The First Shadow, which began its run in London's West End before setting up shop on Broadway as well. While there's no Eleven, Mike or any of the other Hawkins teens, the play does take audiences back to the small Indiana town circa 1959, when Hopper and Joyce were in high school.

'Mr. Robot' Has Only Gotten Better With Time
Starting today, the USA Network drama Mr. Robot is available to stream on Netflix. It's a great time to introduce a new wave of viewers to the series; between 2015 and 2019, it was one of the most prescient, anti-capitalist shows on TV. At the tail end of the network's optimistic 'blue sky' programming era, this was a techno thriller with prestige-drama aspirations, injecting its core character study with trenchant social commentary. But despite creator and showrunner Sam Esmail's success in airing four seasons of his passion project with little intervention from the network, Mr. Robot never quite took off to the same extent as many of its peers, including critical darlings like FX's The Americans and HBO's The Leftovers. Following a universally acclaimed first season, the show got weirder, bolder, and marginally less gripping on an episode-by-episode basis, at least during a polarizing second season that appeared on far fewer year-end 'best TV' lists than the first. Today, though, the show's occasional missteps feel like part of its charm—integral pieces to a grand vision that Esmail executed with confidence. Time will be kind to Mr. Robot; don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Here's what to know before you dive in. What is the show actually about? Rami Malek stars as Elliot Alderson, a young, clinically depressed man working as a cybersecurity engineer at a company called Allsafe. At night, Elliot moonlights as a cyber-vigilante—and his hacking skills attract the attention of one Mr. Robot (Christian Slater), the enigmatic leader of a hacktivist group called fsociety determined to cancel all consumer debt and take down the massive corporation E-Corp (or 'Evil Corp,' as Elliot's brain interprets it). Sounds very Fight Club… Esmail wears his influences on his sleeve, and Fight Club is one particularly obvious one, from the anti-consumerist setup to the Tyler Durden-esque title character. (Taxi Driver is another, evident from Elliot's voiceover narration and the me-versus-society mentality that leads him into several deranged rants.) But Mr. Robot feels like its own specific cocktail of sci-fi and thriller ingredients, and Esmail isn't afraid to directly reference his inspirations—as when he borrows the Pixies' 'Where is My Mind,' iconically used in Fight Club, near the end of Season 1. It's also not much of a spoiler to acknowledge that Elliot's fracturing identity is a consistent throughline of Mr. Robot. What's going on in Elliot's head is just as important as the latest heist to hurt E-Corp. (In fact, the last couple episodes of the show are basically devoid of hacking.) The sooner you make peace with that focus, the more you'll enjoy the show's many flights of fancy: beginning, perhaps, with the fourth episode, a harrowing and hallucinatory dip into his consciousness as he experiences drug withdrawal. That one feels straight out of David Lynch. Just how weird does the show get? Season 1 of Mr. Robot is the most grounded, and Esmail only directed three of the episodes, though his distinct style—with faces isolated at the bottom edge of the frame as if to emphasize the characters' alienation—was present from the beginning. But he takes over as full-time director from Season 2 onward, dialing up the experimental episodes: a 15-minute '90s sitcom parody; an entire installment presented as a single shot during a riot; a hostage situation with high personal stakes, structured like a five-act play. The show also flirts with science fiction as it goes on, teasing the possibility of time travel and alternate dimensions. That flexibility when it comes to both genre and tone—the show can be funny, suspenseful, heartbreaking, and terrifying—makes it memorable. Does it ever get bad? Most people would agree Mr. Robot is at its worst in Season 2, especially with one key Elliot-centric storyline dragging on much longer than it should. And while the show is filled with interesting supporting characters—from Elliot's morally compromised childhood friend Angela (Portia Doubleday) to the slimy E-Corp brownnoser Tyrell Wellick (Martin Wallström) to a trans cyberterrorist named Whiterose (BD Wong) operating as the Minister of State Security with her birth name—not all of their arcs get the same time to develop and wrap up in satisfying fashion. But the show's occasional lags in pacing are much more bearable on a binge, where you can inhale a whole stretch of slower episodes rather than waiting a week and praying for plot movement each time. Besides, the majority of the dips in quality derive from Esmail prioritizing stylistic playfulness and experimentation over the relatively straightforward, linear storytelling of Season 1. In many ways, Season 2 is easier to admire in retrospect, but it's still a good time if you go in with an open mind. Is the ending satisfying? The show's viewership took a huge hit in Season 2 and never really recovered despite a solid, improved Season 3 and a genuinely rich, fascinating Season 4. In fact, watching back Mr. Robot after knowing where it's all going, the occasional bumps in the road feel beside the point; the show sticks the landing in a way that reframes the entire series in a surprisingly moving way. Credit Esmail, whose projects since include the podcast adaptation Homecoming and apocalyptic-thriller novel adaptation Leave the World Behind, for sticking to his vision for the series—and never straying far from the journey of its unique and oddly relatable protagonist, the heart of the series. Credit should also go to Malek, whose work as Elliot led to starring movie roles like his Oscar-winning turn as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody and his casting as a Bond villain. His stellar vulnerable breakout performance anchors the entire show. It's immediately evident, just from watching the pilot episode, when Elliot Alderson first invites us into his world. Once you're in, you won't want to leave.

‘KPop Demon Hunters' Dethroned In Netflix's Top 10 List By A New Movie
KPop Demon Hunters While KPop Demon Hunters has performed exceptionally on Netflix's Top 10 list, another new Netflix original movie has come along to unseat it. And it is a very, very bad one, by all accounts. That would be The Old Guard 2, the sequel to the 2020 action film that apparently did well enough to warrant a sequel. It was well-reviewed, actually. It had an 80% critic scores and a solid 71% audience score, in the context of Netflix originals, quite good indeed. The Old Guard 2? It's a disaster. The film has a dismal 28% score from critics, a 52% drop, and so far, it's not beloved by fans either where it clocks in with a 43% score. Here's the synopsis of the Charlize Theron thriller: Top 10 The film has drawn in actress Uma Thurman this time around and given her a sword for the first time since Kill Bill, but that isn't enough, and if you liked the first one, you may want to skip this one. What you do not want to skip is KPop Demon Hunters, no matter where it ends up on the Top 10 list or how far it falls. The film is incredible with a 94% critic score and from Sony Animation, the group behind the Spider-Verse movies, and you can tell from the unique animation style here. The movie is so good that its soundtrack is charting high on Billboard, and there's already talk of a sequel given the reception. It's been high on the Top 10 list since its release well over two weeks ago, and I'd say that definitely makes it one of the most successful Netflix original movies we've seen in a while. So, skip The Old Guard 2 (maybe watch the first one, if you haven't) and check out KPop Demon Hunters. I know you will probably not regret either piece of advice.
