Formula E Secures FIA Backing Through 2048

News1825-07-2025
Formula E, owned by Liberty Global, has extended its FIA sanctioning through 2048, aiming to rival Formula One.
Formula E will continue to be the world's only all-electric single-seater racing series officially sanctioned by the FIA through at least 2048, following a landmark contract extension announced on Friday.
The Liberty Global-owned series has signed a 10-year renewal with motorsport's global governing body, with sources indicating an additional five-year option is also on the table.
The long-term agreement solidifies Formula E's position in the motorsport landscape and is seen as a major step toward expanding its global reach and investor appeal. The series is targeting continued innovation, with ambitions to match—or even surpass—top-tier competitions like Formula One in performance by mid-century.
Formula E's latest model, the Gen3 Evo, is already making headlines. The car boasts a blistering 0-60 mph (0-96 kph) acceleration in just 1.82 seconds—roughly 30% faster than a current Formula One car—and reaches top speeds of 200 mph (321 kph).
Liberty Global CEO Mike Fries welcomed the extension, underscoring the company's belief in Formula E's long-term potential.
'We've believed in Formula E since day one, and this extension reaffirms our confidence in where it's headed," Fries said.
'With the FIA's continued backing, we can now take the next big steps—scaling the sport, growing its global fanbase, and continuing to push the boundaries of what electric racing can achieve."
Formula E chief executive Jeff Dodds highlighted the growth the championship has achieved since its debut season in 2014.
'With this long-term extension, the opportunity that Formula E now has to impact world motorsport will be truly transformational," Dodds stated.
The announcement comes as the series prepares to wrap up its 11th season with a double-header finale in London this weekend. Nissan's Oliver Rowland has already clinched the drivers' championship title heading into the final two races.

Red Bull Racing Reprimanded For Verstappen Tossing Towel On Track During Hungarian GP Practice

Last Updated: Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing were reprimanded after Verstappen threw a face towel from his cockpit during practice for the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix. No penalty was issued. Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing received an official reprimand from Formula One stewards on Friday following an unusual incident during practice for the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix, in which the Dutch driver threw a face towel out of his cockpit and onto the track. The three-time world champion was summoned to speak with race officials after the second free practice session at the Hungaroring, where stewards reviewed video evidence of the event. The incident occurred midway through Free Practice 2. Verstappen was seen pulling his car off the racing line at Turn 3, slowing down noticeably. He then removed both hands from the steering wheel to retrieve a small white towel from the side of his cockpit and proceeded to toss it out of the car. max is noted for throwing a towel out of the car.. happy friday everyone — nini (@SCUDERIAFEMBOY) August 1, 2025 Although the towel landed well off the racing line, it remained on the asphalt until the session concluded. The situation raised immediate concerns about track safety and prompted race control to refer the matter to the FIA stewards, who reviewed it as a possible case of unsafe behaviour on track. While similar scenarios in the past have led to fines or penalties for teams, the FIA ultimately decided not to take disciplinary action beyond a formal warning. The stewards' statement explained the rationale behind the decision. 'Shortly after Car 1 was released from its garage, the driver of Car 1 (Verstappen) was observed to have thrown a towel out of the cockpit," the stewards noted. 'The driver explained that while in the garage, the face towel had slipped from his lap to the side of the seat, and the team was unaware that it remained in the cockpit. When the driver realised it was there, he moved to the far right of the track and attempted to throw it as far away from the car and the track as possible." Despite Verstappen's intention to discard the towel safely, it remained on the circuit surface for the remainder of the session. 'It Was the Safest Option" Speaking to reporters after the session, Verstappen offered a composed explanation for the moment, which — though harmless in the end — raised eyebrows in the paddock due to its rarity. 'It's just a towel that you normally wipe your face with when you come back in," Verstappen said. 'It was still in the car when I went out." Rather than risk the cloth interfering with his footwell, Verstappen made a split-second decision to dispose of it on track, away from the racing line. 'Instead of it maybe potentially flying in between my feet, which is the dangerous part, I drove off line and I got rid of it in the safest way possible," he added. view comments First Published: News sports Red Bull Racing Reprimanded For Verstappen Tossing Towel On Track During Hungarian GP Practice Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. WhatsApp Bans Over 98 Lakh Accounts In India In June Due To THIS Reason

WhatsApp Account Ban In June 2025: In the month of June, WhatsApp banned more than 98 lakh accounts in India as part of its efforts to stop abuse and harmful activity on the platform. Out of these, around 19.79 lakh accounts were banned proactively, even before users sent any complaints. WhatsApp also received 23,596 complaints from users in India. After reviewing them, action was taken on 1,001 accounts. This included banning some accounts and restoring others that were wrongly banned. Most of the complaints, about 16,069, were related to ban appeals. As a result, action was taken on 756 accounts. Other complaints were about account support, product-related issues, and safety concerns. WhatsApp explained that it detects abuse at three stages — when an account is created, while messages are being sent, and when it receives negative feedback like user reports or blocks. WhatsApp Focuses On User Safety The company added that prevention is its primary focus, as stopping harmful activity before it happens is more effective than detecting it afterward. The platform emphasised its commitment to user safety, saying it uses end-to-end encryption, safety tools, and dedicated teams to fight abuse, misinformation, and security threats. The Meta-owned platform also works with experts to promote cybersecurity and protect election integrity, the messaging platform said in the report. Meanwhile, last month, the messaging platform has introduced two new tools – 'Status Ads' and 'Promoted Channels'. WhatsApp Features According to WABetaInfo, these features were available to select beta users on Android. Status Ads work like Instagram Story ads. Now, business accounts can post paid content that will show up in people's Status updates. These ads will appear between status updates from friends and family, with a clear 'sponsored' label so people can easily spot them as ads. (With IANS Inputs)

MSRTC will open public fuel stations in Maharashtra to boost revenue: Minister Pratap Sarnaik

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has announced plans to open petrol and diesel pumps at its depots across the state for public use, aimed at generating extra revenue for the financially strained public transport system. Transport Minister and MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik stated on Friday that these retail outlets will be set up in partnership with central public sector firms such as Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum. 'The decision to launch these fuel stations was taken because the income from passenger ticket sales alone is not sufficient to sustain our operations. Our goal is to find new sources of revenue to finance MSRTC's stability,' he said. Currently, MSRTC purchases fuel from Indian Oil and Bharat Petroleum and provides diesel only for its buses from 251 pumps located on its property. The Corporation plans to convert such outlets and expand its services to cater to private vehicles as well. Under the proposed scheme, fuel stations will be set up at commercial buildings on MSRTC-owned land of 750 square metres, the minister said. In addition to fuel pumps, retail outlets can be installed to provide room for small businesses, which can also fetch additional income to MSRTC, he added. MSRTC has experience in running pumps and fuel supply, which the officials believe will facilitate this transition. Surveys are currently being conducted on MSRTC-owned plots to identify suitable sites for setting up commercial fuel stations. These stations, once removed from their current utilisation for bus fleets, will be reconfigured to sell fuel to the public as well, Sarnaik mentioned. The state government and MSRTC are actively working on official commercial partnership agreements with the central oil companies, which, according to Minister Sarnik, would enhance transparency as the agreement will involve the Central and State Governments. 'This initiative is not only a revenue-enhancing measure, but also a model of collaboration between state and central agencies, yielding public advantage,' Sarnaik added. The plan also involves transforming these new areas into 'petro-motel hubs,' providing room for fuel sales, simple retail, and facilities for MSRTC's internal operational purposes.
