Everton sign Bournemouth keeper Travers
Travers agreed a four-year contract with the Premier League club, who will open their new stadium at the start of the forthcoming season.
The 26-year-old said: "I'm extremely proud and excited to be an Everton player. Coming in, you can feel how big this club is and the history that comes with it.
"You really feel that with the fanbase, the new stadium now as well and the direction the club is going in.
"It's a really exciting time to be part of this massive football club and I just can't wait to get going."
Travers, who made 82 appearances for Bournemouth during his nine years with the club, will compete with England keeper Jordan Pickford for the starting place in David Moyes' team. — AFP

Santner takes four as New Zealand win by nine wickets
HARARE: New Zealand captain Mitch Santner said a "great collective performance" enabled the Black Caps to beat Zimbabwe by nine wickets on the third day of the first Test at Queens Sports Club on Friday. But while the bowlers had excelled, he said the batting could have been better. Led by fast bowler Matt Henry, New Zealand bowled out Zimbabwe for 149 and 165 and needed only eight runs to win after taking a first innings lead of 158. Henry was named player of the match, taking nine wickets for 90 runs across the two innings. "There was more in it (the pitch) than we thought. We held our lengths and lines," said Santner, who captained New Zealand for the first time in a Test in the absence of Tom Latham with a shoulder injury. It was New Zealand's first Test match of the year and Henry's performance came immediately after a triangular Twenty20 series won by New Zealand in Harare, where Henry was player of the tournament. "With the chop and change in formats, you've got to trust the work you've put in," said Henry. "When you have assistance (from conditions), it was great we were able to exploit it." New Zealand were bowled out for 307 in their first innings, with the only major contributions coming from Devon Conway (88) and Daryl Mitchell (80). "We could have batted a bit better," said Santner. "We had good intent. We talked about getting partnerships together but didn't have many significant ones." Santner said there was concern about the condition of seamer Nathan Smith, who took three for 20 in the first innings of just his third Test but could not take the field in the second innings because of an abdominal injury. "I feel for him. He bowled so well in the first innings but it doesn't look good for him," said Santner. 'GRIND IT OUT' Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine said his batsmen had shown more application than they did in two recent Tests against South Africa in Bulawayo. "There was a fair bit in the wicket but the guys tried to grind it out," he said. Ervine said a key passage of play was on the first evening when Conway and Will Young put on 92 without loss for the first wicket despite Zimbabwe bowling well. "I haven't seen as much lateral movement as there was here for a while. We could have easily picked up two or three (wickets)." Santner took four for 27 in the second innings, while Henry and Will O'Rourke picked up three wickets each Veteran left-handers Sean Williams (49) and Craig Ervine (22) shared a fifth wicket stand of 57, while wicketkeeper Tafadzwa Tsiga (27) and fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani (19) put on 36 for the ninth wicket to make New Zealand bat again. New Zealand were hampered by the absence of Smith and O'Rourke, who was feeling stiffness after his morning spell. The teams meet again in the second Test at the same venue from Thursday. India captain Gill run out in sight of Gavaskar record
LONDON: India captain Shubman Gill ran himself out on Thursday's opening day of the fifth and deciding Test against England as he closed in on Sunil Gavaskar's national record for runs in a series. The tourists were 85-3 when rain stopped play for a second time at the Oval after being sent in to bat in a match India must win to square the series at 2-2. Gill, who has already scored four hundreds in a prolific debut campaign as captain, came in with India struggling on 38-2. At that stage, he needed just 53 more runs to overhaul Gavaskar's mark for the most runs scored by an India batsman in a Test series of 774 -- set by the "Little Master" against the West Indies in 1971. The 25-year-old Gill struck several elegant trademark drives and rarely looked in trouble, despite the overcast, bowler-friendly conditions that favoured England's quicks. But on 21 he pushed the ball into the offside and set off for a single that was never on, with fast bowler Gus Atkinson, following through, throwing down the stumps at the striker's end. Gill, halfway down the pitch, slipped as he tried to turn back to safety. The skipper could yet break Gavaskar's record should India have a second innings. Forest sign winger Ndoye from Bologna
LONDON: Nottingham Forest have signed Swiss winger Dan Ndoye from Serie A side Bologna on a five-year deal, the Premier League club said on Thursday. Financial details of the transfer were not revealed by either club but British media reported Forest paid a fee of around 34 million pounds ($45 million) for the 24-year old Switzerland international. Ndoye joined Bologna in August 2023 from Swiss side Basel for around 10 million euros ($11 million). He made 41 appearances for Bologna across all competitions last season, scoring nine goals and registering six assists. He scored the winning goal against AC Milan in the Coppa Italia final, helping Bologna secure their first major trophy in 51 years. "It is a really exciting time at Forest and I knew straight away that I wanted to be a part of the project. It's a really ambitious team with a fantastic history and I can't wait to get started," Ndoye said. Ndoye could take the place of former Forest winger Anthony Elanga, who joined Newcastle United earlier this month and also played mainly on the right, like Ndoye. Since making his international debut in 2022, Ndoye has earned 22 caps for Switzerland, starting all five matches at Euro 2024 during their run to the quarter-finals.
