Dhruv Jurel faces backlash over ordinary performance at Lord's, Netizens say 'He can't be backup for Rishabh Pant'
Dhruv Jurel, stepping in as wicketkeeper in place of the injured Rishabh Pant, faced criticism for his underwhelming display behind the stumps on Day 4 of the Lord's Test.
Dhruv Jurel.
Rishabh Pant is out of action as he sustained a finger injury, thus, Dhruv Jurel took the role of the wicketkeeper again on Day 4 of the Lord s Test. He had previously created an impact with a fantastic catch to dismiss Ollie Pope in the first inning, yet Day 4 marked a new test. His reflexes have been challenged against an unpredictable bounce of the pitch during the session and his day was worse off with his drop on a clear catch of the very first ball after lunch, something which earned criticism by the fans on social media.
Bad performance by Dhruv Jurel
The injury of Rishabh Pant has seen India a bit shaken up, as the stand-in Keeper Dhruv Jurel had a very tricky time keeping wickets on the Day 4. On his feet, Jurel has at times not been able to pick up deliveries cleanly against Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj. He dropped a simple catch off Joe Root which was edged by Akash just after lunch. Luckily to India, it was a no-ball declared by the umpire, so the missed chance did not matter.
But Indian viewers who watched Jurel making the drop in real-time were not very understanding and they tweeted to express their anger. The following are some of the criticisms on the performance of the young wicket keeper:
Apart from one good catch on Jadeja's bowling…Dhruv Jurel has been horrible behind the wickets…Horror show totally… unable to stop even a single down the leg ball

For all the shouts about being the best wicketkeeper for India after taking the catch of Ollie Pope, Dhruv Jurel has been bang average (being lenient) to the pacers since then#INDvsENG

On Ben Stokes vs Jasprit Bumrah Workload Comparisons, India Coach's Sharp Response

England captain Ben Stokes quashed concerns over his workload during the third Test at Lord's against India last week. Stokes raised the benchmark not just for his own men but also for the Indian fast bowlers going into the final two games, bowling a marathon 44 overs and took five wickets to help his team register a narrow 22-run win. The 34-year-old was praised by experts for throwing workload management out of the window, instead of thinking about what lies ahead. Stokes' exploits led to comparisons between him and India pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who is set to play in only three of the five Tests. Just like Stokes, Bumrah has been an injury prone cricketer. It was planned well in advance ahead of the tour and the champion fast bowler missed the second Test in Birmingham as part of workload management despite India losing the series-opener at Leeds. India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate opens up on the comparisons between the two, and praised Stokes, who pushed his body to the limit despite knowing that the possibility of a breakdown was real. "That was super impressive for Ben to come out on their last day and bowl the amount of overs he did with the intensity he did, and obviously bats and fields as well. We're not here to compare our bowlers to individuals from other teams," ten Doeschate said in a press conference. "We have our own strengths. We know what Jasprit particularly does in spells, in shorter spells, which he prefers bowling in," he added. Stokes has had to deal with injuries throughout his career and most recently underwent a surgery following a hamstring tear in January. On talks of the Indian team managment failing to utilise Bumrah the same way as Stokes, ten Doeschate defended their approach. "And when the time's right, and what I alluded about Siraj, some bowlers are like that. You get the best out of them in their seventh, eighth and ninth over, but not everyone has to be the same as that. And we feel that in consultation with Jasprit, how we use him is the best way for the team," he said.

ENG vs IND: Ajinkya Rahane suggests major change in playing XI after Lord's loss

India batter Ajinkya Rahane has suggested a change in the Indian playing XI for the fourth Test against England. India are trailing by 1-2 in the series after a 22-run loss in the third Test at Lord's as they failed to chase down the target of 193 in the fourth India's heartbreaking loss, Rahane has suggested adding an extra bowler in the playing XI for the fourth Test at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester. He also mentioned that they missed an opportunity to get a huge score in the first innings and get into a dominating position in the all know that Day 4 and 5 get slightly difficult to bat on. It's not easy to score runs. Yes, England bowled really well. But I felt India missed an opportunity to get that big score on the board in the first innings. And also, I feel going forward, India should look to add one extra bowler — because you're going to win a Test match or a Test series by getting 20 wickets," Rahane said on his YouTube channel. Furthermore, Rahane also praised Ben Stokes for inflicting Rishabh Pant's run out minutes before lunch on Day 3, hailing him for his game awareness."It's very easy for the fielder to get relaxed. When you see only two or three balls left before lunch, you can easily get relaxed. But his attitude towards the ball, his intensity, and getting that run-out — that's where I felt England came into the game,' he run-out shifted the momentum of the match as he had added over 141 runs with KL Rahul and the duo threatened to take the game away from England. However, his return to the pavilion brought England back into the game as India got all out for 387 in the first innings. Stokes was also adjudged Player of the Match for his scores of 44 and 33 in two innings respectively and figures of 5/111 in the after losing third Test, India are desperate to make a comeback in the series in the fourth match. It remains to be seen what changes will they make to their playing XI as they aim to level the series in Manchester Test set to begin from July 23.- EndsMust Watch

Yashasvi Jaiswal called 'confused' by ex-India cricketer after dismissal in Lord's Test chase: 'He was not comfortable'

Yashasvi Jaiswal's approach came under scrutiny from a former Indian opener after he was dismissed playing a poor pull shot during the chase in the Lord's Test against England. Usually a composed presence at the crease, Jaiswal looked uncharacteristically unsettled in the third Test. read more One of India's most reliable batters Yashasvi Jaiswal had a disappointing performance during the Lord's Test. Image: AP Former India cricketer Robin Uthappa feels a muddled approach from Yashasvi Jaiswal led to his early downfall against Jofra Archer during the Indian cricket team's chase in the Lord's Test as the visitors suffered a heartbreaking defeat by 22 runs. With just 193 runs needed to win in the final innings, India were seen as the favourites and Jaiswal, who averages 50.78 in 22 Tests, was seen as someone who could be a potential match-winner for Shubman Gill and Co. But the opener only lasted for seven balls and got out for a duck. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Jaiswal's dismissal came as he attempted an uncharacteristic pull shot against Archer on a short delivery that was pitched outside off. Generally, Jaiswal would have played a cut shot on such a delivery, a shot that he has mastered over the years, but he went for a pull shot against Archer as the pace outfoxed him, leading to an easy top-edged catch for wicket-keeper Jamie Smith. Uthappa feels Jaiswal was confused during Lord's dismissal Analysing Jaiswal's dismissal, former India opener Uthappa added that the opener never looked comfortable in the middle and it seemed like he was not sure what approach to take as the target was not so big. 'Yashasvi was genuinely not comfortable from the word go. You could see through the over that he was confused, so to speak, not clear. Maybe not confused, but just not clear as to how he wants to approach it. Because it was only 190 runs, I think he was half and half. It almost seemed like an afterthought, that shot,' Uthappa said on his YouTube channel. 'He (Nair) left it at the point of delivery. I don't think he watched it coming in and made that decision as the ball came to him. Until that point, that dude was batting solid, man. He is batting so well,' Uthappa added. Also Read | Bumrah's availability still in doubt for must-win Manchester Test STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara, who has worked with Jaiswal for several years at Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, had also remarked while commentating on Sky Sports that the Indian opener looked tired and uncomfortable in the middle. 'Watching Jaiswal in the first over that he faced, he didn't look comfortable, he didn't look watchable. He has spent a long time at short leg for India, and he has come out looking a bit jaded,' he said on commentary.
