Uttarakhand gets state's first ‘yoga policy', CM Dhami announces ‘spiritual economic zones'
On the occasion of the 11th International Yoga Day, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami officially launched the state's first-ever Yoga Policy from Bhararisain, the state's summer capital.
He declared, 'Uttarakhand will be developed as the global capital of yoga and wellness.'
While delivering his message 'Yoga in Every Home, Health for Every Person,' Dhami spoke of the Central Government's support in the initiative and announced the establishment of a 'Spiritual Economic Zones' in Garhwal and Kumaon divisions.
These zones will reportedly be developed as international hubs of ayurveda, yoga, and spiritual tourism, and will also facilitate employment in the state, helping to curb migration from the hill regions.
By March 2026, yoga services will be ensured at all AYUSH Health and Wellness Centers, and by 2030, five new yoga hubs will be developed across the state, Dhami said.
Under the new policy, establishment of yoga and meditation centers will be eligible for up to Rs 20 lakh in subsidies, and research related to yoga and naturopathy will be granted up to Rs 10 lakhs.
Dhami said, 'Yoga is not just exercise; it is a philosophy of life that has united the world beyond caste, religion, and borders. It has become the most powerful bridge of global unity and humanity.'
Among the dignitaries attending the event were Cabinet Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, Ambassador of Mexico to India Federico Salas, Ambassador of Nepal Dr. Shankar Prasad Sharma, and diplomats from six countries – Fiji, Mongolia, Russia, Latvia, Sri Lanka, and Suriname.
Before the event, the Chief Minister conversed with the youth and urged them to make yoga a part of their daily routine and move toward a healthier life.
While noting the pivotal role of Bhararisain in yoga, spirituality, and policy-making, he described the location as a center of Uttarakhand's cultural heritage and natural beauty.

Consumer body backs medical negligence claim, awards ₹10 lakh compensation
The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission upheld a state consumer commission order holding a doctor responsible for medical negligence while reducing the compensation for mental agony to Rs 10 lakh, according to an official order. The commission comprising presiding member Bijoy Kumar and member Justice Saroj Yadav, was hearing the appeal filed by Dr P Yashodhara challenging the March 2019 order of the Andhra Pradesh State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission awarding Rs 30 lakh as compensation to the complainant for mental agony, along with other costs, after holding the doctor guilty of medical negligence. The complainant, K Sreelatha, alleged that because of the doctor's negligence during a forceps delivery performed on April 17, 2011, the baby suffered serious crush injuries to the scalp and his right ear pinna was also crushed and detached. Sreelatha further alleged that due to these injuries, the baby sustained brain damage and had become mentally disabled. In an order dated June 6, the national commission said that the doctor's hospital did not obtain "informed consent" for surgery, and the baby suffered injuries on his scalp and perichondritis of the ears, evidenced by the discharge summary of the second hospital wherein the baby boy was admitted for further treatment. The commission, however, said that it was difficult to correlate the injuries suffered on the scalp with the subsequent "mental retardation" suffered by the boy as no evidence for it was submitted. "The state commission has gone into detail and given a well-reasoned order, and we find no illegality in holding the appellant doctor responsible for the injury caused to the scalp of the baby, which had necessitated further treatment in another hospital. Thus, medical negligence is established," it added. The commission also said that the compensation of Rs 30 lakh awarded for suffering mental agony appeared to be on the higher side, and the state commission did not provide any finding on how the amount was arrived at. It said, "There is a stay of around one and a half months in Chennai for the treatment in the second hospital. For this period, the amount of Rs 10 lakh as compensation would be in order considering the quantum of injury and the gravity of negligence in using forceps." The commission also directed payment of Rs 72,530 for the treatment expenses and Rs 50,000 for litigation costs.

Delhi drugs control department cracks down on sale of fake cholesterol medicines
The Delhi drugs control department recently uncovered a multi-level distribution network involved in the sale and circulation of spurious Rosuvas F 20 tablets, a prescription drug used to manage cholesterol and triglyceride levels, officials said on Friday. The action followed a complaint from Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd, which reported that fake versions of its Rosuvas F 20 tablets were being sold by a retail outlet in central Delhi. The complaint mentioned a multi-level supply chain involving multiple wholesalers and distributors across the city. Rosuvas F 20 is a fixed-dose combination drug containing Rosuvastatin (20 mg) and Fenofibrate (160 mg). It is commonly prescribed to patients who require medication to manage high cholesterol and triglyceride levels, especially when lifestyle changes alone are not sufficient. The drug plays a vital role in preventing serious cardiovascular conditions such as heart attacks and strokes. Drugs control department officials said Rosuvas F 20 tablets were a fast-moving drug, and on June 14 and 15, 1,800 spurious tablets worth Rs 88,000 were seized from two locations in Okhla and Bhagirath Palace. 'On June 14, we first received a complaint from Rajinder Nagar, but no stock was found. A link was established in Okhla and Bhagirath Palace, where raids were conducted,' an official said. Officials noted irregularities and a suspicious absence of genuine stock at several distribution points, which ultimately led them to a firm located in the Okhla Industrial Area. 'Visual inspection and comparison with authentic samples suggested that the seized products were spurious — their appearance and packaging did not match those of the legitimate manufacturer,' said an official. Here, additional suspect stock of Rosuvas F 20 was found. Legal samples were collected from Bhagirath Palace, Chandni Chowk—one of Delhi's busiest medicine markets—and sent to a government laboratory for quality testing, while manufacturer verification is also underway, officials revealed. The department has secured custody permission for the seized drugs through the Delhi High Court. 'We are now coordinating with authorities in other states to trace the full supply chain behind the fake medication,' the official said.
