UAE strengthens industrial property ties with Spain, Morocco
GENEVA (WAM)The Ministry of Economy and Tourism has signed two Memoranda of Understanding with the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office and the Moroccan Industrial and Commercial Property Office, aimed at strengthening cooperation in the development of intellectual property (IP) in the UAE in line with international best practices.The MoUs were signed in the presence of the Minister of Economy and Tourism, Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, during the UAE delegation's participation in the Sixty-Sixth Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in Geneva.The agreements cover several strategic areas, including digital transformation, talent development, and enhanced coordination in industrial property and patent registration. They also seek to harness advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence, to support patent search and classification processes.Minister bin Touq highlighted the UAE's continued commitment to building a comprehensive IP ecosystem and fostering global partnerships.
He noted that collaboration with Spain and Morocco represents a significant milestone in exchanging technical knowledge, streamlining registration procedures, and adopting modern compliance standards.

UAE-Tunisia Agriculture and Food Forum explores prospects for partnerships in food industries and modern agriculture technology
On the sidelines of the International Food Show Africa (IFSA Africa), the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, in coordination with the UAE Embassy in Tunisia, organized the UAE-Tunisia Agriculture and Food Forum to strengthen the economic partnership between the UAE and Tunisia in the areas of food, supply chains, and technologies related to the food value chain. The Forum was attended by H.E. Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism; Dr. Iman Ahmed Al Salami, UAE Ambassador to the Republic of Tunisia; and officials from public and private entities in both countries, as well as representatives of international organizations and startups in the agriculture and food security sectors, including Al Islami Foods, Iveco, and Emirates Bio Farm. H.E. Bin Touq emphasized the broad prospects for enhancing bilateral cooperation between the UAE and Tunisia in the food, agriculture, and food security sectors. He noted that these sectors are a fundamental pillar of both countries' efforts to achieve sustainable food security and boost local production. This reflects the UAE's commitment to advancing economic cooperation with Tunisia by developing strategic partnerships in food manufacturing, modern agricultural technologies, and sustainable food production practices. The UAE's food sector has experienced significant growth, with its contribution to non-oil GDP projected to rise to 11 percent in 2024, up from 10 per cent in 2023. This expansion is fueled by advancements in food manufacturing, agri-tech investments, and strengthened local production. Forecasts suggest the broader food system, encompassing production, processing, distribution, retail, hospitality, and logistics, will generate USD 38.3 to USD 40 billion in 2024. Additionally, the food and beverage manufacturing sector is poised to sustain this growth, with a projected 5.1 per cent CAGR through 2028. UAE and Tunisian firms highlight food sector investment prospects The forum featured dedicated sessions and B2B meetings where companies from both markets showcased opportunities in smart agriculture, food processing, packaging technologies, and food logistics. Participants explored avenues to strengthen cooperation in agricultural research and food innovation, while also examining investment potential in emerging technologies like alternative proteins, vertical farming, and smart supply chain solutions. At the forum, participants explored future collaboration avenues and knowledge-sharing between public and private sector representatives, aiming to strengthen food security systems and boost joint investments in this critical sector. Etihad's route expansion: What's behind the 7 new destinations?

The new routes include Almaty (Kazakhstan), Baku (Azerbaijan), Bucharest (Romania), Madinah (Saudi Arabia), Tbilisi (Georgia), Tashkent (Uzbekistan), and Yerevan (Armenia)—each chosen for its cultural significance, tourism potential, and growing demand for travel. Strengthening Abu Dhabi as a global hub These additions bring 'Our goal is clear—we want to bring more people directly to Abu Dhabi,' said Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways. 'These new routes connect us to fast-growing, culturally rich regions and will help stimulate demand for tourism and trade in the UAE's capital. 'From the spiritual significance of Madinah to the historic charm of Tbilisi and Yerevan, and the modern vibrancy of cities like Baku and Almaty, each destination adds depth to our growing network and attracts travellers with diverse interests.' Neves added that launching 29 new routes in one year marks a 'remarkable milestone' and showcases the airline's commitment to supporting Abu Dhabi's growth. 'Whether for business or leisure, guests can expect a seamless journey and world-class hospitality that reflects Etihad's elevated service. These connections make it easier than ever to experience everything Abu Dhabi has to offer.' Ongoing route expansion in 2025 So far in 2025, This announcement also follows Etihad's recent reveal of three new seasonal summer destinations for 2026: Krakow (Poland), Salalah (Oman), and Kazan (Russia), which will operate during peak travel months. Destination Highlights Each new city on Etihad's network offers unique cultural, historical, and leisure appeal: Madinah, Saudi Arabia: One of Islam's holiest cities, Madinah welcomes travellers with its serene atmosphere, striking architecture, and the revered Prophet's Mosque, a major pilgrimage site. Further Expansion Announced in July In an earlier announcement on July 2, 2025, Etihad revealed plans for seasonal flights to Kazan, Krakow, and Salalah, expanding its presence in Russia, Poland, and Oman, respectively. These routes 10.2 million passengers in first half of 2025 Etihad's network expansion aligns with its strong performance in 2025. The airline transported 1.8 million passengers in June, a 16 per cent increase compared to June 2024. Its load factor rose to 88 per cent, up from 86 per cent the previous year, showing the airline's ability to match capacity with growing demand. Etihad's current fleet of 101 aircraft supports this expansion and allows it to enhance service reliability across its network, In total, 10.2 million passengers flew with Etihad in the first half of 2025, reflecting a 17 per cent increase year-on-year. The average load factor during this period was 87 per cent, reinforcing the airline's momentum and operational efficiency. 'We are pleased to see continued momentum in our growth,' said Neves. 'Our year-to-date figures show that more than 10 million guests have flown with us in 2025, and our rolling 12-month total has almost reached 20 million as our customers continue to place their trust in our service.' Etihad's June growth also included inaugural flights to Prague and Warsaw, and the resumption of seasonal routes to summer destinations such as Nice, Malaga, Mykonos, Santorini, and Antalya.
