Man gets 1-yr jail term for misbehaving with girl

judge Bijay Kumar Mishra Monday sentenced a 19-year-old man to one year in jail and fined him Rs 1,000 for misbehaving with a minor girl. The court ordered an additional month in jail if he does not pay the fine.

Special public prosecutor Gyanendranath Jena said the man harassed the girl on her way to school. When the girl objected to it, he threatened her.
After the minor's family came to know about the incident, they asked him to stop teasing the girl. But when he continued, the victim's family filed a complaint at Town police station. After hearing the statements of seven witnesses and going through the police probe report the fast track judge pronounced the sentence.

Mary struggled to bring his body back home as the agent did not provide her any help. "I went through the toughest days of my life. Communication was also difficult as I did not even know the language there. We boarded the flight dreaming of a better life and to provide excellent education to our daughters. But his death shattered me completely, and the loss was something irreversible. The Indian Embassy in Jordan helped me travel back to India with his body, but I had to arrange an additional Rs 5 lakh. I became even more in debt, and the thought that I was alone in the journey ahead affected my mental health. No person should suffer like this. The agent made us believe that the cost of an Israeli visa is much less in Jordan and the process was also easier. But it was a lie. He deserves maximum punishment," said Mary. She said that when she requested her money back, the accused refused to provide her any. The fraud came to light only on Feb 10, 2025, after Thumba native Thomas Gabriel Pereira, 47, was shot dead by Jordanian soldiers while attempting to sneak into Israel through the Jordan border. His brother-in-law, Edison, 44, was also injured in the leg in the firing. Edison was later deported back to India by Jordan, and it was he who informed the relatives about Thomas's death. Poonthura natives Jincy, 32, her husband Norman, 35, Ajeesh, 28, Judit, 29, and Binu, 22, were also reportedly cheated by the same accused. All of them had to leave Jordan after failing to get Israeli work visas.

Lorry carrying luxury cars catch fire near Poigai, Tamil Nadu; driver escape unharmed
ANI 29 Jun 2025, 01:24 GMT+10 Vellore (Tamil Nadu) [India], June 28 (ANI): A container lorry transporting luxury cars worth Rs 3.6 crore caught fire near Poigai village in Tamil Nadu's Vellore district on Friday, causing a temporary disruption along the busy Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway, police said. The lorry, carrying two high-end luxury cars valued at Rs 1.8 crore each, was en route from Chennai Port to Bengaluru when the incident occurred. The driver, identified as a 20-year-old Akash from Uttar Pradesh, reportedly swerved the vehicle to avoid an oncoming two-wheeler, causing the lorry to veer off and come to rest in an empty roadside area. The vehicle remained parked under overhead power lines for an extended period. According to preliminary investigations, strong winds may have caused the wires to scrape, triggering an electric surge. This surge is believed to have led to an explosion in the diesel tank, igniting a fire that engulfed the front section of the lorry. Upon receiving the alert, officers from Virinjipuram Police Station quickly notified the Vellore District Fire and Rescue Services. Firefighters arrived promptly and battled the flames for over an hour before successfully bringing the blaze under control. While the front of the lorry was completely destroyed in the fire, the container section housing the cars remained intact. No injuries were reported, and the luxury vehicles were not damaged. (ANI)
