Winners, losers from NASCAR Cup race at Atlanta won by Chase Elliott

WINNERS
Chase Elliott — Won at his home track for the second time in his Cup career. Masterful race capped by last-lap pass that created an electric atmosphere when the checkered flag waved. Elliott snapped a 44-race winless drought and moved to second in the points after his third consecutive top-five finish.

Brad Keselowski — While he still needs a win to make the playoffs, his runner-up finish is his fourth top 10 in the last six races — his best stretch of the season.
Alex Bowman — His third-place finish moved him off the playoff cutline. It is his second top-five finish in the last three races. Next up for the series is the Chicago Street Race, which Bowman won last year.
Tyler Reddick — His fourth-place finish was just his second top 10 in the last 10 races.
Legacy Motor Club — Erik Jones' fifth-place finish gives Legacy MC a top-10 finish in three consecutive races. That is the team's longest streak of top-10 finishes this season. John Hunter Nemechek had finished sixth in each of the last two races.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. — His sixth-place result tied for his second-best finish of the year.
Zane Smith — His seventh-place result ties for his best result of the season. He has placed seventh in two of the last four races.
Ty Dillon — Finished a season-best eighth and provided the biggest upset of the In-Season Challenge. As the No. 32 seed, he eliminated No. 1 seed Denny Hamlin and said on TNT after the race: 'All you Denny fans out there, I just knocked your favorite driver out.'
LOSERS
Ryan Blaney — Collected in the big crash and finished last in the 40-car field. It is his sixth DNF of the season, tying him with Bubba Wallace for most in the season.
Bubba Wallace — Finished 22nd and fell in the standings. He holds the final playoff spot with eight races left in the regular season. He leads Ryan Preece by 23 points.
Joey Logano — Pole-sitter was collected in the big crash and finished 36th. This marks his fourth consecutive finish outside the top 15, his longest streak of the season.

If that doesn't say start of a dynasty, general manager Bill Zito's recent magic might have positioned the team for another run and more. Zito had expressed confidence that he could sell his three key pending unrestricted free agents on a winning culture and get Sam Bennett, Aaron Ekblad and Brad Marchand re-signed. Playoff MVP Bennett was first, agreeing to an eight-year, $64 million extension that was announced before the NHL draft. Then the team announced an eight-year deal for top-pairing defenseman and 2014 No. 1 overall pick Ekblad worth a reported $6.1 million a year on June 30. And reports emerged later in the day that Marchand, who scored 10 playoff goals after arriving in a trade, would be getting a six-year deal worth a little more than $5 million a year. His contract will run until he's 43. Zito vowed that the team would spend to the salary cap and it will. And all three are taking under-market contracts to stick around. Also important, they aren't joining the Panthers' rivals. The Panthers now have Aleksander Barkov, Matthew Tkachuk, Sam Reinhart, Bennett, Carter Verhaeghe, Marchand, Anton Lundell, Seth Jones, Ekblad and Gustav Forsling signed through at least 2030. Zito also made a recent trade for goaltender Daniil Tarasov, 26, who will get to learn under veteran Sergei Bobrovsky and possibly be the Panthers' No. 1 goalie of the future. The Panthers are like a family. Witness how captain Barkov made sure that all the first-time Stanley Cup winners got to lift the Cup before last year's winners did. That camaraderie is a key selling point. So is winning. And the Panthers have put themselves in position to do more.

The Panthers have re-signed two of their key pieces from their most recent Stanley Cup run, managing to squeeze them in under the salary cap. With the help of their state not having income tax, Florida re-signed forward Brad Marchand and defenseman Aaron Ekblad on Monday, a day before the start of NHL free agency. Marchand, 37, signed a six-year contract with a $5.25 million average annual value, while Ekblad, 29, got an eight-year contract with a $6.1 million AAV. Advertisement Ekblad, who likely could've commanded significantly more on the open market, was the No. 1 overall pick by the Panthers in the 2014 NHL Draft and has been a stalwart ever since, going from Calder Trophy winner to helping the team to back-to-back Cup wins and three straight Cup Final appearances. The Athletic previously reported that the Bruins were interested in a reunion with Marchand if he reached free agency, and that the Maple Leafs were potential suitors. Marchand was part of the Bruins team that won the 2011 Stanley Cup in his second year in the league. And he was a huge reason the Panthers were able to repeat this season, putting up 10 goals and 10 assists in 23 playoff games.
