Clément Turpin to referee Sunday's Classico between PSG and Marseille

Yahoo13-03-2025
According to a report by L'Équipe, Clément Turpin will be the referee chosen to oversee this weekend's Classique clash between Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique de Marseille at the Parc des Princes, (20:25 CET). The 42-year-old referee has already officiated 30 times this season, and will be taking charge of his eighth Classique, with PSG winning on six occasions and OM earning one draw. Les Olympiens will be hoping to show they've made progress since the 3-0 win for Les Parisiens at the Vélodrome earlier this season. Luis Enrique's PSG, however, face a Champions League Round of 16 second leg clash against Liverpool tonight before preparing for the match against their rivals this weekend. There have been no major worries from OM in recent games officiated by Stéphanie Frappart, and Thomas Léonard, since the controversy surrounding Jérémy Stinat, who sent off defender Derek Cornlelius to the indignation of Marseille president Pablo Longoria, who accused Ligue 1 referees of 'corruption' – subsequently receiving a 15-match suspension.GFFN | George Boxall

Rennes interested in Marseille's Quentin Merlin

Stade Rennais may be in the market for a left-back. The Breton club have already sold Adrien Truffert to Premier League side Bournemouth. Their back-up, Mahamadou Nagida, is inexperienced. At just 20, he may be judged to be too inexperienced to inherit Truffert's role. A recruit could therefore be sought after during the current transfer window. L'Équipe understands that they are showing an interest in Olympique de Marseille left-back Quentin Merlin (23), who just had a convincing campaign away with the France U21 side at the Euros. His future at OM is uncertain. Advertisement Whilst behind the scenes, there are those who want Merlin to remain at the club, OM are looking to raise money to fund their transfer window. He is a player that Marseille can turn a profit on. There is also interest from abroad, L'Équipe understands. Borussia Mönchengladbach are one of several Bundesliga sides interested in the Frenchman. Former Strasbourg defender Thomas Delaine to join Le Havre

Former RC Strasbourg Alsace defender Thomas Delaine (33) is set to join Le Havre AC on a free transfer, according to a report from L'Équipe. Le Havre, since the completion of Blue Crow's takeover of the club (pending DNCG approval) earlier this month, have sought to be active in the transfer market. Godson Kyeremeh and Mory Diaw have arrived, whilst Lionel Mpasi is set to arrive as a back-up goalkeeper. Advertisement Le Havre are now looking to continue their recruitment drive through the signing of Delaine. The defender left Strasbourg after three seasons this summer. His age profile was not in fitting with the BlueCo project and therefore he was not renewed. Last season, he played just two matches in Ligue 1, accumulating a mere eight minutes of playing time. However, Delaine will bring plenty of Ligue 1 experience to Le Havre. The defender has 115 matches in the top flight. He is expected in Le Havre imminently. GFFN | Luke Entwistle

Marseille identify West Ham's Nayef Aguerd as priority target

Olympique de Marseille have strengthened at the back this summer. Despite a second-place finish in Ligue 1 last season, OM's defence was often suspect, and Roberto De Zerbi and Medhi Benatia have identified the sector as one needing improvement. There have already been two arrivals. CJ Egan-Riley has joined Marseille following the expiry of his deal at Burnley. RC Lens' Facundo Medina has also arrived for a considerable fee. He will play alongside compatriot and club captain Leonardo Balerdi, considering he remains at the club. Balerdi is notably a target for Juventus, although OM are looking to retain him. Advertisement There could be further recruits. As per L'Équipe, West Ham United's Nayef Aguerd (29) is a priority target for Les Phocéens. However, there are other teams abroad interested in the Moroccan centre-back. He is also earning a considerable salary at West Ham, who will have significant demands to part ways with their defender.
