Drug peddlers will face action, warns NTR District Collector

VIJAYAWADA: NTR District Collector G Lakshmisha and Commissioner of Police SV Rajasekhar Babu on Thursday issued a stern warning to drug peddlers and users, stating that strict action would be taken against anyone found selling or consuming narcotics in the district.
'The law is strict and no one will be spared,' they said, while addressing participants of a mega walkathon organised from Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The event, organised by the NTR District Police Department, aimed to raise awareness about the drug menace and promote a drug-free district, state, and country. Thousands of students, officials from various departments, and members of NGOs took part in the walkathon.
Lakshmisha declared that NTR district stands united in the fight against drugs. 'Drugs will destroy the individual, the family, and eventually harm the entire society,' he said. He added, 'We are appointing Eagle Clubs and campus ambassadors for this initiative.'
Commissioner Rajasekhar Babu said, 'The government is taking an iron-fist approach against drugs and is implementing the NDPS Act. We have already booked five individuals under this Act.'

The incident occurred on the IIT-Madras campus on June 25 around 9.15 pm, when the student was walking alone. A food court employee allegedly accosted her and sexually harassed her. The woman managed to escape and raised an alarm, prompting campus security personnel to intervene and detain the suspect. He was later remanded in judicial custody. In a statement issued on X (formerly Twitter), the NCW stated that it directed the concerned authorities to ensure the survivor receives immediate medical and psychological assistance. LUCKNOW: The Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police on Friday arrested three active members of a drug trafficking syndicate and recovered 384 kilograms of illegal ganja (cannabis) with an estimated international market value of Rs 96 lakh. The arrests were made in front of Bhadeiya Block, under the jurisdiction of Kotwali Dehat police station in Sultanpur district. According to STF officials, actionable intelligence was received over the past few weeks indicating that a syndicate operating across Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and other states was actively smuggling narcotics into Uttar Pradesh. Acting on these inputs, STF units were deployed for surveillance and information gathering under the supervision of Additional SP Dinesh Kumar Singh. On Friday, an STF team was patrolling in Sultanpur when they received a tip-off about a large consignment of ganja being transported from Odisha in a container truck concealed beneath paper rolls and en route to Bahraich. The STF, in coordination with the Circle Officer of Lambhua and local police, intercepted the truck and arrested the trio at Bhadeiya Block. ASP Singh said that during interrogation, Ravi Mishra revealed that he leads an organised syndicate dealing in large-scale smuggling of ganja. His associate Rahul, based in Bahraich, coordinated with the truck driver Nomaan to load the cannabis from Sonepur, Odisha, concealing it between paper rolls meant for delivery in Delhi. The contraband was to be offloaded in Bahraich, while the legal cargo was to continue to Delhi. Nomaan, the driver, was to be paid ₹800 per kilogram for the transportation. A case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered at Kotwali Dehat police station, Sultanpur, and further legal proceedings are underway.

Muzaffarnagar(UP): A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man in the Budhana town of Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar, police said. Circle Officer (CO) Gajendra Pal Singh said that the alleged incident took place on Friday. "The accused works as labourer in a factory located near the victim's house. He lured the girl to a secluded place on Friday and raped her," said Singh. The family members came to know about the incident when the minor returned home and the parents found her bleeding from her private parts, police said. The victim has been sent for a medical examination. Police have registered a case against accused Raju (35) under relevant sections of the BNS and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The case was filed based on a complaint lodged by the victim's family. Police on Saturday morning arrested Raju, following an encounter. Raju sustained bullet injuries during the encounter while attempting to escape, police said. He has been shifted to the government health community centre at Budhana for medical care. A police official said that Raju has allegedly confessed his crime.
