JS-SEZ development to spur emergence of satellite towns
He said the initiative would lead to the emergence of more satellite towns, ensuring that no district is left behind in terms of infrastructure and progress.
In addition to driving economic growth, JS-SEZ would also serve as a catalyst for the tourism sector, positioning Johor as a major destination, he noted.
The state government, he said, would seize the opportunity to promote attractions throughout Johor in conjunction with the upcoming Visit Johor Year.
'Bit by bit, areas surrounding JS-SEZ are beginning to experience the spillover effects of development. For example, the areas of Simpang Renggam and Renggam in Kluang are already seeing its impact. This progress will gradually expand to other districts.
'If Seremban is known as a satellite city to the Klang Valley, we expect Kluang to become one of the main satellite cities as a result of the JS-SEZ development,' he said at the launch of the Majestic Johor x Renggam Fiesta at Tunku Mahkota Ismail Youth Centre (TMIYC) Renggam today.
The JS-SEZ covers major development zones such as Iskandar Malaysia, Forest City, the Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex, and Desaru, with a total land area of approximately 357,128 hectares.
The Iskandar Malaysia region also includes strategic areas such as Johor Bahru City Centre, Iskandar Puteri, Tanjung Pelepas–Tanjung Bin, Pasir Gudang, Senai–Skudai, and Sedenak.
Further commenting, Onn Hafiz said that rapid development in the transport sector would also support connections between districts and the JS-SEZ, including the Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link Project and the Gemas–Johor Bahru Double Track Electrified Project.
'All these projects will enhance connectivity between Johor's districts and the key areas within the JS-SEZ, and the development will be carried out in phases,' he added. — BERNAMA

Meanwhile, CGS MY said that the ASEAN-4 nations - Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand - would likely lose some key growth momentum without the support from the US frontloading. The investment company has cut Indonesia's 2025 gross domestic product (GDP) forecast to 4.8 per cent from 5.0 per cent, while maintaining Singapore's GDP growth at 1.6 per cent. 'We forecast Thailand's GDP growth of 2.0 per cent in 2025, amidst dull sentiment on consumption, ongoing political turmoil, weak international arrivals, as well as risks from Trump's reciprocal tariffs,' it added. Furthermore, driven by the loss of the US market, CGS MY said that China may flood its products elsewhere, pricing out ASEAN producers. 'In our view, key to watch is the US bilateral talks with ASEAN countries on the reciprocal tariffs.

Johor, federal govt to push for competitive wages in JS-SEZ
JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor government, in collaboration with the federal government, will continue engaging with investors and companies in the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) to implement more competitive minimum wages, including a target of RM4,000 for fresh graduates. Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the matter is currently being refined through the Johor Talent Development Council (JTDC). 'This is a strategic move to ensure the welfare of local workers and attract high-quality talent to contribute to Johor's economic development,' he said in a Facebook post today. He also highlighted that clean water supply remains a priority for the state government, expressing appreciation for federal support in approving new infrastructure projects to increase treated water distribution capacity, especially in strategic areas like the JS-SEZ. 'Meanwhile, the long-term plan to develop large-scale raw water resources to meet 2,000 million litres per day by 2060 demonstrates Johor's commitment to ensuring sustainable water supply for residents and industries,' he added. Johor appreciates RM991m water project, strengthening treated water distribution capacity
JOHOR BAHRU: Johor Regent Tunku Mahkota Ismail has expressed his appreciation following the approval of a new water supply infrastructure project worth RM991 million by Pengurusan Aset Air Bhd (PAAB), which will strengthen the treated water distribution system in the state. His Royal Highness said the approval of the 260 million megalitres per day (MLD) project was finalised through a Project Execution Letter dated July 7, 2025. 'The project will strengthen the capacity of the treated water distribution system, especially in the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ),' he said in a Facebook post today. The Regent also announced that Johor is targeting the construction of raw water infrastructure of 2,000 MLD that can meet the water needs of the entire state until 2060. According to him, this includes the Sungai Johor Riverside Water Reservoirs (TAPS) Project (200 MLD), the construction of the Sungai Sedili barrage and TAPS (600 MLD), and the Sungai Pontian barrage and TAPS (100 MLD), which have been approved under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP). 'This measure is expected to be able to support the water needs of the industrial, commercial. and domestic sectors for the medium and long term.
