In a statement, Patil mentioned that a statue of the valiant Rani Chennamma on horseback was already installed at the central bus station in the heart of Vijayapura. "During the inauguration of the Shakti scheme, we expressed our wish to name the bus station after Rani Chennamma. We wrote a letter to the chief minister regarding this. He then instructed the transport minister to take necessary steps to name the central bus station after Veera Rani Kittur Chennamma. Considering our request and the CM's directive, transport minister Ramalinga Reddy has now issued the order for renaming," he added.
He further said, "Additionally, Vijayapura airport was named after Vishwaguru Basaveshwara. A 1,200-acre area in Mamadapur is designated as the 'Siddheshwara Shri Biodiversity Traditional Conservation Forest Area.' Women's University was renamed Akkamahadevi Women's University. By naming these places after revered figures, their ideals are being perpetuated in the public consciousness."
He also stated that during the upcoming cabinet meeting in Vijayapura, CM Siddaramaiah will unveil a grand statue of Rani Chennamma installed at the Vijayapura Central bus Station and officiate the renaming.

During the meeting, airport development in Mysuru, Shivamogga, Hassan, Karwar, and Raichur also came up for discussion. Patil urged the Centre to grant Karnataka stakeholder status in the airport monetisation programme. "Despite Karnataka's key role… it has not been granted stakeholder status," he said, citing Rs 319 crore for Mysuru runway expansion, Rs 450 crore for land at Hubballi, and full funding of Kalaburagi airport.

Andhra Pradesh State Women's Commission Chairperson Rayapati Sailaja reiterated that the State government remained committed to protecting women in distress and ensuring that no girl suffers exploitation or abuse. Addressing an awareness campaign on 'Women's safety and rights' at Sai Aram here on Thursday, Ms. Sailaja urged women and girls to be alert to crimes in the society, particularly online frauds, and face the challenges boldly. She urged them not to fall prey to false promises. 'You must educate yourselves, stay away from adverse influences, and make your parents proud by concentrating on education and empowerment,' the Women's panel chief said. The programme, conducted by the Department of Women and Child Welfare, commenced with with the lighting of inaugural lamp, and featured an exhibition on women's protection schemes. Ms. Sailaja released the publicity poster 'Protecting Women in Distress is the Government's Mission' and a book titled The Safety Net: Protecting Children in the Digital Age. She urged the young women and girls to download the Shakti app and use it whenever they sensed danger. Superintendent of Police (SP) V. Ratna spoke about the police initiatives, such as the EAGLE app and toll‑free helpline 1972 for immediate assistance. Puttaparthi MLA Palle Sindhura Reddy, government officials, NGOs, and women groups attended the programme.

Govt accords priority to women's safety, says Sailaja
Anantapur: Dr. Rayapati Sailaja, Chairperson of the Andhra Pradesh State Women's Commission, emphasised that ensuring the safety, protection and empowerment of women and girls was the Commission's core mission. She was speaking at a district-level awareness programme on Women's Welfare and Empowerment, organised by the Women and Child Welfare Department at SSBN Degree College, Anantapur. Dr Sailaja highlighted that the government was prioritising women's safety and that the Commission works to prevent atrocities such as child marriage, domestic violence and workplace harassment. She stated that legal awareness among citizens, especially young women, was essential for building a safer society. Addressing students, she encouraged them to become aware of their rights and use government platforms like the Shakti app to seek help when needed. 'Don't fall for false promises or get influenced by social media. Stay focused, stay empowered,' she urged. She added that incidents must not be waited upon — preventive steps are more crucial. The Commission has been conducting state-wide awareness drives, particularly in Rayalaseema, to address early marriages and harassment of minors. Dr Sailaja visited stalls set up by the ICDS department, unveiled posters on domestic violence, and stressed the need for Internal Committees in schools, colleges, and workplaces to prevent sexual harassment under the PoSH Act. She concluded by encouraging women to come forward boldly with complaints, stating that all legal support and protection will be provided. Several women also submitted petitions during the session. Officials present included Anantapur RDO Keshava Naidu, ICDS project officer Nagamani, DMHO Dr. E B Devi, CI Venkateswarlu, and NGO representatives.
