Explorers offer peek at abandoned theme park where boy, 13, died in tragic accident a decade ago
Video footage shows the decaying Copa Copana Water Park in Athens - seemingly unchanged from the 2014 disaster that claimed the life of the 13-year-old boy.
He and his sister, nine, were swept up by a gust of wind while playing inside a large inflatable ball at the 32,000 sq ft site in the Greek capital.
Decaying: The park was the site of one of the grimmest amusement park disasters in 2014 when a boy died while enjoying one of its attractions
They were flung from the surface of a pool about 100ft into a metal barrier and rushed immediately to Agia Sofia Children's Hospital in Athens.
The boy died shortly after, having suffered severe head injuries, while his sibling was left critically injured and diagnosed with severe lung contusion.
Copa Copana's two managers were arrested and an investigation began into whether safety issues played a role in the tragedy.
Greek police concluded it was a result of both 'bad weather conditions and human error' and the park was swiftly closed for good.
Now a group of urban explorers have headed back to the park and discovered a creepy site, with the attraction's rides and slides still up, but barely a soul around.
Nature has reclaimed the abandoned park, with huge spiraling plants intertwined with the twists and turns of the various defunct flumes.
With the facility tucked in between a hillside and a main road, the YouTubers - whose account Urbandoned has 138,000 subscribers - try to sneak into the site from the rear.
After a walk through a forest of thick trees, the duo eventually see an abandoned ride peeking out from the undergrowth.
The park is well protected, with a layer of razor wire coating a fence and a small surrounding road, seemingly used by security staff.
They eventually squeeze beneath a small gap in the fence before exploring the spooky site.
Discarded piping and metal cover the park's grounds with thick weeds and plants dispersed between what were once popular rides.
Drone footage shows the slides gathering rust and moss and pools of stagnant water, filled with tadpoles, sitting in sections of the facility.
A climb to the top of one of the flumes offers expansive views of the surrounding mountains, city and the meandering metal rides.
As he walks down a path, overgrown with towering green plants, one of them describes Copa Copana as 'an actual jungle.'
The narrator explains that the park in its heyday boasted 13 rides as well as cafes and restaurants.
Bizarrely, they spot dozens of sun loungers and outdoor tables stowed away beneath one of the slides, a reminder of the fun experiences once had at the site.
It turns out they are not the first explorers to visit the abandoned park, with several rides seen covered in graffiti, sprayed on in the years since they were drained out.
A trip up a few flights of creaky stairs to the highest point in the facility allows one of the YouTubers to even get a spectacular view of the ocean, as well as the vast extent of the creepy site.
Poignant archive footage then shows Copa Copana at its happy peak several decades before, with hundreds of children and parents enjoying its attractions.
The group are initially surprised by the lack of security at the abandoned site but it turns out the guard had been resting on a sun lounger before ambling towards them.
The friendly member of staff allows them to stroll to the part of the park they have not yet seen as long as they then head for the exit.
Eerily, some of the lifeguard chairs and even cafe menus remain left exactly where they stood during Copa Copana's operational days.

‘Oh my gosh no' – Commentators in shock as never-before-seen blunder sees chess star miss out on share of over £1MILLION
A CHESS grandmaster QUIT after he lost out on a share of a £1million prize fund following a never-before-seen mistake. Poland's Jan-Krzysztof Duda sensationally resigned after making a slight mishap during a last-16 clash this week. 2 2 Duda faced Nodirbek Abdusattorov at the Esports World Cup on Thursday. Duda, 27, and Uzbekistan's Abduattorov, 20, drew twice during regular games before Duda abandoned the game in the Armageddon. It came after the rarest of mistakes - an accidental computer MOUSE SLIP after making his fifth move on the board. The commentator couldn't believe it and he roared: "Oh my gosh no. "For the first time a mouse slip instantly decides a game at the ESports World Cup. "This is an occupational hazard for ESports all over the world but this is the first time we've seen this in such a crunch situation. "This, no-one was expecting." While his fellow announcer said: "Unbelievable". In online chess, a slip refers to an unintentional move caused by a player's mouse, often due to misclicks or dragging a piece to the wrong square. There isn't a universal rule dictating how to handle them in Esports, but rather a mix of etiquette and practical considerations. Some players choose to accept the mistake, continue playing, or even resign, while others might offer a draw or accept a takeback. Ebereche Eze wins £15,000 in celebrity online chess tournament - and celebrates more than his Wembley FA Cup goal But Duda quit despite the game being the difference between winning $65,000 or at least $85,000 in the quarterfinals. The first place prize for the tournament is $250,000, with a combined prize pool of $1.5 million. After his shock win, Abdusattorov said: "It's quite unbelievable right now. "In general, I am very happy to qualify for the final eight. It's going to be even tougher in the Finals." Fans were quick to have their say on social media. One said: "Bro will regret this his entire life."

Instant karma for cocky shoplifter who brazenly helps himself to designer clothes - but reckons without the police officers lying in wait
A cocky shoplifter who brazenly helped himself to clothing before strolling out of stores has been caught by police. CCTV footage shared by the Met shows a hooded man casually giving staff a thumbs up before pulling a clothes stand and walking off the store with what appears to be a jumper. In another clip, a man with a bag calmly picks up a cream puffer jacket and exits the store without challenge. A third video shows a man in a blue beanie grabbing items from shelves in front of what looks like a stunned member of staff. When someone tries to stop him, he simply walks away. The clips, edited into a compilation with jokey background music, then cut to police bodycam footage showing officers arresting a man. It's not clear if he appears in all the shoplifting clips. He's seen being pinned to the ground and cuffed as an officer tells him he's being arrested for being recalled to prison. One policeman holds up a pair of trousers and says: 'That's got a label on it,' while another adds: 'This is nicked as well.' It comes as shoplifting continues to soar across the capital, even in its most iconic cultural hotspots. And a rampant thief who stole £9,000 from stores in Covent Garden throughout February and March was caught by bobbies on the beat last month. The shoplifting crisis has seemed to reach boiling point in the West End as the Metropolitan Police has been forced to take action in a bid to contain the shameless thefts. In an attempted crackdown, the number of officers policing the district will increase by more than 50 per cent following a spate of brazen thefts. Knife crime and theft are at record levels in the city – and the force has faced accusations of failing to take the challenge seriously or to be tackling it head-on, all while trying to manage with an ever–shrinking budget. Tom Hiddleston's fiancée sets record straight on wedding claims and reveals ‘toxic paragraphs' from family members
THE MARVELS star Zawe Ashton has set the record straight amid rumours she's secretly married long-time love Tom Hiddleston. The famous couple have largely kept their relationship out of the public eye, going public for the first time in 2021 after a rumoured two years of dating. 5 5 It's known the pair got engaged in 2022, the same year they welcomed their first child together – and it was confirmed earlier this year they were expecting their second. When the announcement noted Tom as Zawe's 'husband', rumours started circulating that they had secretly tied the knot. This week, Zawe joined longtime pal Miquita Oliver on her Miss Me? podcast, clearing up the speculation – and revealing even family members had believed it, sending her upsetting messages in the process after 'not being invited'. She told Miquita: 'We've been engaged for a long time. There are … I think there have been publications that have named us husband and wife already.' 'Those text messages were very … there's some toxic paragraphs that were thrown my way!,' she added. 'Like 'uh, okay, no invite? Whatever.' It's like, no, no, no. It didn't happen! We didn't do it in secret. We haven't eloped.' Despite the pair not making it official, Zawe did note that the pair do call each other husband and wife, which may have been where the confusion came from. She added: 'It's just a semantics thing. I think at some point you're like 'girlfriend, boyfriend' … with a kid and another one on the way? Does that feel right?' Zawe – who first shot to fame on Channel 4 sitcom Fresh Meat in the early 2000s – added that for some reason it 'p***ed off married couples' that they call each other husband and wife without actually getting married. Tom and Zawe have been running in similar social circles throughout their career, and were first photographed at a friendly event in 2018 celebrating the career of Harold Pinter. Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton discuss their roles in hit Harold Pinter play Betrayal Shortly after, the pair were cast alongside each other in a play by the same famed playwright, Betrayal, portraying husband and wife Robert and Emma. After a West End run in 2019, the show was transferred to Broadway, with the pair reprising their roles – during that time, it was noted they had got close. They finally went public with their first official outing as a couple at the Tony Awards in 2021. Since then, Zawe joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as The Marvels' villain Dar-Benn. Tom famously plays Loki within the same film world, though their characters have never crossed on screen. 5 5 5
