LIV Golf heading to South Africa for first time, league will play in 5 continents in 2026

LIV Golf continues to expand its schedule, and next year, it's going to South Africa for the first time.
The league announced Saturday it will be heading to Steyn City in Johannesburg, South Africa, as part of a multi-year commitment to host an event in Africa. It will be the fifth continent to host a LIV Golf event in 2026, with confirmed events already in Australia and Europe on the schedule. The South Africa event will be held March 20-22.
'It's always special to compete at home, and I'm incredibly proud to bring LIV Golf to South Africa for the first time," said captain Louis Oosthiuizen of Stinger GC, the South African team on LIV Golf. "For Branden, Charl, Dean and I to play in front of our fans, friends and families will be an unforgettable experience. South African sports fans love their golf, and I am sure they will turn out in large numbers to support Stinger GC. South Africa has given so much to us, and now we get to give something back.'
Other confirmed dates on the LIV Golf schedule are a return to Adelaide, Australia, from Feb 13-15 and for LIV Golf UK at JCB Golf and Country Club from July 24-26, where Joaquin Niemann won for the fifth time this season Sunday.
LIV Golf is also expected to have an event in Saudi Arabia and numerous in the United States next year. The league has hosted tournaments in Singapore and Hong Kong for multiple seasons and debuted in Korea for the first time earlier this year.
'I will tell you that old saying, it truly takes a village to bring an event of this size and scope to a new location,' LIV CEO Scott O'Neil said. 'I will speak for myself saying me and the Minister in five minutes, and speaking to Ross Hallett and Chris Bentley, two of my colleagues here, we knew instantly that (South Africa) is a place we want to be for a very long time.
'I'm humbled. I'm thrilled. I will tell you that to the amazing country of South Africa, we bring an amazing group of people. We bring the best players in the world of golf, and we bring airplane flights, and we fill hotel rooms, and we fill restaurants. In Australia just last year, we had $84 million USD of economic impact. We also bring social impact.'
Steyn City is a Jack Nicklaus design located in Midrand, South Africa.
Gayton McKenzie, South Africa's Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, said, 'LIV Golf has taken a step that I think is worth emulating for all the major sporting bodies around the world. LIV Golf understands that it cannot truly be called an international competition if it misses a continent. I thought it's going to be very hard to convince LIV Golf that they have to go to South Africa.
"I can tell you, after meeting Scott, the CEO, after meeting Ross, I have nothing but praise for them.'
More details about the complete 2026 LIV Golf schedule are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Erik van Rooyen withdraws from Wyndham Championship late Friday afternoon

There was another withdrawal at the 2025 Wyndham Championship, as Erik van Rooyen tapped out with a back injury Friday afternoon, according to the PGA Tour. The South African was 1 over through 14 holes (he started on No. 10) in his second round. He was 4 over overall, well off the projected cut line of 4 under. There were four previous withdrawals since Sunday from this event, the final one of the 2025 regular season for the PGA Tour and van Rooyen's departure was announced 10 minutes after the tournament officials suspended play for "dangerous weather." In the projected FedEx Cup Playoffs standings at the time of his WD, van Rooyen was 68th, down four spots from where he was when the tournament started. Only the top 70 in the points on Sunday night advance to the first event in the postseason, next week's FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis.

President Trump names Lawrence Taylor to Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition

On Thursday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order establishing the President's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. The order will also bring back the Presidential Fitness Test for students in public schools. "From the late 1950s until 2013, graduate scholars all across our country competed against each other in the Presidential Fitness Test, and it was a big deal. This was a wonderful tradition, and we're bringing it back," Trump said, via the San Francisco Chronicle. The council will be led by LIV Golf pro Bryson DeChambeau (chairman) and will also include retired New York Giants legend Lawrence Taylor and former Giants running back Saquon Barkley. Other members of the council are San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, and WWE superstar Paul "Triple H" Levesque. Taylor was in attendance on Thursday for the bill signing, but Barkley, who previously played a round of golf with Trump, was not. After signing the executive order, Trump unexpectedly called Taylor, who supported him during the presidential campaign, up to the podium. "I'm proud to be on this team. I don't know what we're supposed to be doing, but I'm here to serve. I'm here to serve you," Taylor said. "I'm going to do the best I can for as long as I can." While Taylor's role may not have been initially defined, Bosa's was. He will be tasked with providing advice on college athletics and women's sports. It's unclear what role Barkley will play. The council was originally established in 1956 by President Dwight Eisenhower, with the Presidential Fitness Test created by President Lyndon Johnson in 1966.

Bryson DeChambeau has never been shy about pushing boundaries on the course, and now he is continuing the momentum under President Donald Trump. The LIV Golf star, often praised by Trump and LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil for his innovative approach to growing the game, made headlines again this week. This time it was not for a viral swing or a YouTube "Break 50" challenge, but for stepping into a new leadership role at the national level. Standing alongside WWE legend Triple H, NFL Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor, and other top athletes, DeChambeau helped unveil the relaunch of the Presidential Fitness Test as part of an executive order signed by Trump to expand the President's Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition. "We believe we can change the fabric of our communities and kids' livelihoods for the future generations that are to come," DeChambeau stated during the announcement as posted by Nuclr Golf on X. "I can't thank you enough and looking forward to making massive changes in kids' lives and America's future". 🚨🏋🏻‍♂️🗣️ #NEW: Bryson DeChambeau has joined the Presidential Council on Sports, Physical Activity, and Nutrition. Speaking from The White House, DeChambeau says they have the opportunity to change kids lives. @BrysonLegion — NUCLR GOLF (@NUCLRGOLF) July 31, 2025 Per reports, the initiative marks a revival of the school fitness program first introduced under President Dwight Eisenhower in 1956. It was phased out in 2012 during former President Barack Obama's administration, replaced by a broader youth wellness model. Now, under Trump's directive, the test is back, with DeChambeau leading the charge. In an interview on Fox News Channel's Special Report with Bret Baier, DeChambeau explained his motivation. "I grew up in an era in my public education side of the coin where we had a fitness test," he told the reporter. "And you know, for me, all I want to do is inspire the next generation of young individuals that have passion around sport, health, nutrition, and fitness. Re-establishing the President's Sports Council as well as the fitness test is a huge initiative for America and its health and fitness all across the board. "So, we couldn't be more excited. I've got a great team behind me. We're establishing more council members as time is going on. And we're going to be excited to showcase what we have for the American public here soon." DeChambeau's own transformation is well-documented. Once dubbed "The Incredible Bulk" for his 6,000-calorie-a-day diet and 40-pound weight gain in pursuit of driving dominance, he later admitted the regimen had adverse health effects and slimmed down significantly. Now, with over 2 million YouTube subscribers, DeChambeau's influence stretches far beyond fairways. His latest "Break 50" video, featuring Adam Sandler in full Happy Gilmore mode, racked up 6 million views in just a few days. "I want to get kids excited about pushing themselves," DeChambeau shared with Fox News after his address at the White House announcement. With the 2025 Ryder Cup and 2026 FIFA World Cup on the horizon, DeChambeau's new role positions him not just as a golf disruptor but as a voice for youth fitness in America.
