PAS states' taxes might not cover development costs, says Rafizi
He said if the Kelantan state government, for example, can't create an investment-friendly business environment and generate good, high-paying jobs, it may struggle to bring prosperity to the people even if it collects taxes under federal jurisdiction.
Rafizi said those taxes, such as business and individual income taxes, or sales taxes related to business activity, might not be enough to cover the state's development costs, which were currently supported by the federal government.
"That's why it's better for us to compete with our expertise in boosting the economy, rather than playing on sentiments by accusing the federal government of victimising opposition states," he said in an X post, previously known as Twitter.
He also asked how many taxes would be collected in Kelantan if the state government were collecting the taxes currently under the federal government's jurisdiction.
PN and PAS are currently leading four state governments, namely Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.
In April, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the federal government's allocations to Kelantan and Terengganu had consistently increased since he took over the government in 2022.
He said Kelantan saw a 30 per cent increase in 2024 allocation to RM762 million from RM588 million in 2023.
Meanwhile, Terengganu's allocations recorded a 28 per cent increase to RM2.02 billion last year from RM1.57 billion the previous year.

"The present State Government has set up a plan to ensure Sabah will continue to progress," he said.

'This also clearly reflects federal support for Sabah under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,' said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor. He expressed his satisfaction that several high-impact projects proposed by the State Government had been included in the 13MP. These include the expansion of critical utilities such as water supply, sewerage systems, and power transmission, as well as strategic infrastructure projects involving roads, flood mitigation and healthcare, along with the establishment of a Blue Economy Hub. Hajiji also noted that the Federal Government will prioritise the Sabah-Sarawak-Kalimantan road network, which complements the relocation of Indonesia's capital to Nusantara in East Kalimantan. 2 more Bersatu members arrested after anti-Anwar rally
The Perikatan Nasional rally on Saturday saw protesters, estimated at 18,000 by police, calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. PETALING JAYA : Two more Bersatu members have been arrested by police, believed to be in connection with the Turun Anwar rally held on Saturday. According to Bersatu Youth information chief Harris Idaham Rashid, the duo – Furqan Hakimi, who serves as the executive secretary of the wing's Perak chapter, and Syafiq Aziz – were picked up today. 'They are believed to have been arrested over the July 26 rally. Both will be taken to the Dang Wangi police headquarters. An application to extend their remand is expected to be made tomorrow morning,' he said. In the same statement, Harris said the magistrate had earlier today rejected an application by police to extend the remand order of two others. 'As a result, Badrul Hisham Shaharin and (Sijangkang PAS Youth chief) Ikhwan Syaffiq were released at 5pm today,' he said. Badrul, better known as Chegubard, was arrested by police at his home yesterday evening. Badrul earlier said in a Facebook post that police had informed him he was being probed under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 for doing or attempting to do any act with a seditious tendency, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities, and Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace. He said he was also being investigated under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for using indecent, threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour that could lead to a breach of the peace.
