According to preliminary reports, the students had participated in a Datta Homam held on Wednesday at the Kirlampudi Satram, located below the Annavaram hill shrine. They reportedly consumed temple food (anna prasadam) served after the ritual.
Soon after, the students developed symptoms of severe throat pain and stomach ache, prompting concerns of food poisoning. Local sources strongly suspect that contaminated food may have led to the illness. The students were admitted to the Annavaram Temple Hospital for initial treatment. Later, they were shifted to Tuni Area hospital. Kakinada DM&HO visited the Tuni hospital to assess the condition.
Efforts to obtain a statement from Devasthanam officials regarding the incident were unsuccessful, as none were available for comment at the time.

Eight Vedic students who fell seriously ill were initially treated at the Devasthanam Hospital and later shifted to the Tuni Area Hospital for advanced care. The students are currently being treated in the emergency ward. IIT Mandi, PU to collaborate on mental wellbeing
Vadodara: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi and Parul University (PU) signed an MoU to promote holistic mental wellbeing by integrating modern neuroscience with ancient Indian knowledge systems. "We set up a dedicated centre for Indian knowledge systems and mental health. Through this collaboration, IIT Mandi and PU will work together to deepen research and promote practices rooted in Indian traditions for better mental wellbeing," said Professor Laxmidhar Behera, director of IIT Mandi. Behera, along with renowned scientists including Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awardee Dr Vijay Bhatkar, widely known as the architect of India's national initiative in supercomputing, was in the city to attend BLAIM 2025, an international conference on mindfulness, behavioural science, legal innovation, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence. "In the Indian knowledge system, the mind holds a central place in achieving holistic health. Ayurveda and Vedic texts speak of three forms of energy — physical, mental and spiritual — that reside within us. We aim to explore and balance these energies through a scientific lens," said Behera. "We are also setting up a brain and behaviour lab at PU," said Dr Mohammad Nami, a cognitive neuroscientist and director of BrainHub, UAE, who is associated with Canadian University Dubai. "This lab will be a hub for hands-on neuroscience research, brain profiling, and studies on cognitive functions. Students will be directly involved in research activities, making this a truly immersive learning experience," he said.

Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat on Tuesday said that today's problem is not that there is lack of resources, but the lack of sensitivity, tolerance and compassion, while emphasising on encouraging youths to be gentle, sensitive and truthful. Devvrat was speaking at 'Dhanyayogrihasthashram', a couple guidance programme organised by the Children's Research University at Gandhinagar Town Hall. The Governor claimed that today's science cannot match the level of Ayurveda research done thousands of years ago, highlighting that 'ancient sages and saints carried out several researches while living on the mountains and in forests'. Praising the 'visionary leadership' of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Governor said that establishing the Children's Research University was a revolutionary initiative. 'This is not just a university, but a laboratory for human creation,' he added. He also warned against toxic farming. Vice Chancellor of Gau Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Hitesh Jani, meanwhile, talked about Garbha Sanskar and Ayurveda from the Vedic period. Newlyweds, pregnant women, doctors, experts in the fields of education and psychology were also present at the event. At the event, a calendar especially prepared for pregnant women was released by the Governor in the presence of Women and Child Welfare Minister Bhanuben Babaria, Gandhinagar Mayor Miraben Patel, Gandhinagar District Panchayat President Shilpaben Patel, Gandhinagar (North) MLA Ritaben Patel and Children's Research University Vice Chancellor TS Joshi.
