‘I know what club I signed for' – Daniel Farke breaks silence on sack rumours as Leeds boss says ‘it's not surprising'

The Sun25-04-2025
DANIEL FARKE is unsurprised by claims Leeds are considering sacking him — despite securing Premier League promotion.
The Whites sealed their top-flight return after two years out when they thumped Stoke 6-0 last Monday.

Yet despite his success, Leeds reportedly doubt boss Farke is the right man to lead them into the big time.
The German's critics point to his record with Norwich — two Prem promotions and two immediate returns to the second tier.
Asked if he felt disrespected, Farke said: 'Not at all, it's not surprising.
'I knew for which club I signed, I'm not sure how many managers Leeds had in the last 20 years, but it's a good effort if you last for three months.
'Once you sign a contract, there's lots of pressure, noise, expectations.
'On a weekly basis someone is linked. It's nothing new.'
Leeds' US-based owners 49s Enterprises are not convinced the ex-Borussia Monchengladbach chief is the right man for 2025-26..
Supporters sang the 48-year-old's name amid promotion celebrations outside Elland Road on Monday night.

But Farke has failed to win over one section of Leeds fans.
They were unhappy with his playing style, use of substitutes and, until recently, his faith in keeper Illan Meslier.
Inside Leeds' wild promotion celebrations with thousands of fans greeting team and former Man Utd star on the mic
Farke took the reins at Leeds last term following relegation and only missed out on a Prem spot when Southampton beat them in the play-off final.
Now he's not just ensured a Prem spot, they top the Championship on goal difference.
And victory in their final two games would mean 100 points.
They host Bristol City on Monday then travel to bottom side Plymouth on May 3.
However, Farke's win record in the top division stands at only 12%.
If Leeds did take the controversial decision to replace him, there could be an attempt to lure back Spaniard Carlos Corberan, who was assistant boss under Marcelo Bielsa and had decent spells in charge of Huddersfield and West Brom.
Three huge names have also been mentioned - Steven Gerrard, Patrick Vieira and Jose Mourinho.
Leeds could hit 100 points this season if they win their final two matches - they currently have 94.
If Farke is axed Leeds could try and lure Carlos Corberan back to the club - the Spaniard was assistant under Marcelo Bielsa and has had success in England with Huddersfield and West Brom.

Arsenal respond as two Premier League clubs make offers for £27m signing

Leandro Trossard is 'increasingly likely' to leave Arsenal after two Premier League clubs made 'concrete offers' for the Gunners winger. Trossard, who joined Arsenal in a £27m deal from Brighton in 2023, has been repeatedly linked with a move away from Arsenal this summer. The Gunners spent over £50m to sign England winger Noni Madueke and remain interested in signing a new left-winger as well as Crystal Palace attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze. Trossard was linked with Bayern Munich in the summer but the Bundesliga champions have bolstered Vincent Kompany's attacking options with the £65.5m signing of Luis Diaz from Liverpool. Belgium international Trossard has attracted interest from Bayern's Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund, who are 'monitoring' his situation at the Emirates Stadium, according to Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg. Trossard has two years left on his current Arsenal contract but looks set for a summer switch as he has also received 'concrete offers' from two unnamed Premier League clubs. It is easy to see the appeal of signing Trossard; the 30-year-old has scored 27 goals over the past two seasons and was a key player for Brighton before his move to north London. While Arsenal are yet to formally respond to any offer for Trossard, The Times say they are 'increasingly likely' to cash in and are hopeful of starting a bidding war between interested parties. Trossard's sale would boost Arsenal's transfer kitty after some expensive signings and help fund moves for other targets, potentially including Eze. As well as signing Madueke this summer, Arsenal have strengthened Arteta's squad with the additions of Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Cristhian Mosquera and Kepa Arrizabalaga. Asked about the club's transfer plans after the pre-season friendly win over Newcastle United on Sunday, Arteta said: 'Let's see what happens. The likes of Jorginho, Thomas Partey, Kieran Tierney, Nuno Tavares and Takehiro Tomiyasu have left the Premier League runners-up and Champions League semi-finalists this summer. Arsenal are also in talks to sell £35m signing Fabio Vieira to Premier League rivals West Ham, while Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, Jakub Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko could yet leave. Arteta's side continue their pre-season schedule on Thursday with a clash against north London rivals Tottenham. Their first Premier League game is on August 17 against Manchester United. Man City re-sign goalkeeper Trafford from Burnley on five-year deal

July 29 (Reuters) - Goalkeeper James Trafford has returned to Manchester City on a five-year contract after helping Burnley earn a promotion back to the Premier League with the fewest goals conceded in the Championship last season, City said on Tuesday. Englishman Trafford, who won the golden glove with 29 clean sheets in the Championship last season, has re-joined the club where he spent eight years as a youth player for 27 million pounds ($36 million), English media reports said. 'Rejoining City is such special and proud moment both for me and my family. I always dreamed that one day I would be able to come back to Manchester City," Trafford said in a statement shared by City. 'This is the place I call home – it's a truly special football club with fantastic people who make it such a unique place to work and play." Trafford played on loan at third-tier sides Accrington Stanley and Bolton Wanderers before making a permanent move to Burnley in 2023, where he played his first full season in the Premier League, making 28 appearances as the club was relegated. But the six-foot-six keeper returned to form in the Championship last season, with Burnley conceding only 16 goals in the campaign, 14 fewer than champions Leeds United. "I am still very young and hungry to keep learning and improving – and I know there is no better environment than Manchester City to help make me become the best goalkeeper I can be," Trafford added. City, who begin their quest for a seventh Premier League title in nine seasons when they visit Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 16, said Trafford would wear the number one jersey. Impressive Mbeumo makes an impact

It was fascinating to sit down and talk to Bryan Mbeumo at Manchester United's team hotel on is not outwardly a massive character, quite quiet in many respects, certainly to the media sat opposite him round a small table. Neither is he the biggest in he lit the room up when he started to talk about his piano-playing and his love of is clearly far more to Mbeumo than meets the was interesting to liken the strategy of chess to playing football. Evidently, he puts quite a lot of thought into what happens on the pitch, which is why he has made steady improvement during his time at Brentford and his time there ended with an impressive 20 Premier League goals last is no guarantee of future success but it did make you feel he is giving a lot of thought to his career and that, as Ruben Amorim pointed out last week, there is more to his move to Manchester United than more from Mbeumo's interview
