Krook had received a phone call from Italy informing her that there had been a mix-up with four crates in which the giant fossil replica had been packed for shipping to her new museum. The massive tail, rib cage, pelvic bone and limbs had all arrived, but when she opened up the fourth crate it was empty, save for a few scattered wood shavings. The T. rex's skull was missing.
This was one of the hiccups in setting up the Art Zoo, an ambitious new museum that opened to the public in the center of Amsterdam last month. Situated in a 17th-century mansion in the city's canal district, the museum brings together natural history and contemporary taxidermy created by two Dutch artists who call themselves Darwin, Sinke & van Tongeren.
Krook, the museum's director, said the T. rex wasn't her only logistical problem. She also had to figure out how to get a giant gorilla, made of 78 yards of denim, through the building's long and narrow front doors.
'This is a landmark building, so it's not like we can just break a door to fit it in,' she said. 'I joked that I felt like I was visiting the gynecologist, because we're always trying to figure out how to get the baby out — or in this case, in.'
The T. rex and the denim gorilla are just two of more than 200 extraordinary objects now on show at the Art Zoo. The museum was created by Ferry van Tongeren and Jaap Sinke, a Haarlem, Netherlands-based artistic duo behind Darwin, Sinke & van Tongeren.

Groundbreaking punk band plays final live show in Amsterdam
Gang of Four's live performance run has come to an end. The the legendary British post-punk band played its final show of their farewell tour at Amsterdam's Paradiso on Saturday night, July 5. The show put a cap on Gang of Four's "Long Goodbye Tour,' which was meant to celebrate the band's pioneering music. The tour started in North America in Boston on April 20. 'After 45 years, the band will tour North America for the very last time, playing the album front to back, followed by a second set filled with fan-favorites and hit songs,' a social media post about the tour reads. Gang of Four's tour also paid tribute to the 45th anniversary of the band's 1979 debut album, 'Entertainment!' NME reported Gang of Four played 'Entertainment!' in full at the start of the Amsterdam show. They then follow-up with a second set packed with other hits, including 'I Love A Man In Uniform,' 'To Hell With Poverty' and 'Elevator.' Gang of Four is considered 'one of the most influential and groundbreaking bands to rise from the British punk scene in the late '70s,' according to the band's AllMusic biography. The groundbreaking band formed in 1976 in Leeds, England with original members Jon King (vocals), Andy Gill (guitar), Dave Allen (bass) and Hugo Burnham (drums). Gang of Four rose to fame with a percussive, stripped-down sound that blends punk rock with funk and dance music. The band's lyrics also made a strong impression on listeners, pointing to social and political topics. Gang of Four charted in the U.S. with 'Is It Love?' and 'Don't Fix What Ain't Broke.' The band's signature songs include 'Anthrax,' 'Damaged Goods,' 'To Hell With Poverty,' 'He'd Send in the Army,' 'Cheeseburger,' 'At Home He's a Tourist' and more. 'Tim Rex in Space' to premiere Aug. 4 on Nickelodeon
July 7 (UPI) -- Nickelodeon announced Tim Rex in Space, a new animated series aimed at preschool-aged children, will premiere on the cable network Aug. 4. The series, a co-production with Channel 5's Milkshake!, "follows a Tyrannosaurus Rex named Tim, his big brother Tommy, little sister Tia and triceratops bestie Kai, as they tackle kid-shaped adventures with dino-sized solutions in space," the official synopsis reads. The voice cast for the series features Cassian Swan-Mckee, Ace Gill, Hope Delaney, Jamie Smart, Stephen Alan Yorke, Nim Miller, Sophia Nomvete, Jessica Robinson, Alex Carter and Lorraine Bruce. "Tim and his family live in a unique world comprised of a cluster of asteroids that make up the town of Rumbleton -- a quintessential 21st century suburban town, with each asteroid hosting family homes, cafés, shops, parks and even a beach. All asteroids are connected by a network of slides, ziplines and trampolines, but can also easily be reached on a quick rocket ride," the network said. Tim Rex in Space, created and produced by Mint Copenhagen will premiere Aug. 4 at 9:30 a.m. EDT on Nickelodeon, with an encore presentation at 6:30 p.m. on the Nick Jr. channel.
