Panic on Hassan-Solapur Express as smoke emits from coach

Kalaburagi (Karnataka), Jul 21 (PTI) Panic gripped passengers aboard the Hassan–Solapur Superfast Express after dense smoke billowed from one of its coaches early on Monday morning.
The incident occurred around 5:45 am near Marathur village in Kalaburagi district, when train number 11312 was en route to Solapur, railway sources said.
According to railway officials, thick smoke was seen coming from the brake binding of the fourth coach due to a technical fault.
Alert railway staff at Marathur noticed the issue and immediately signalled to stop the train.
As the train came to a halt, anxious passengers hurriedly exited with their luggage, fearing a fire. However, railway personnel quickly addressed the issue, preventing casualties and damage.
Authorities have initiated a technical inspection to ascertain the cause of the malfunction. PTI COR GMS ROH

Messi set for India tour in December; Kolkata to host opening leg with statue unveiling, GOAT Cup
KOLKATA: If all the pieces fall in place, football devotees in Kolkata will have the first sighting of iconic Lionel Messi after a decade. The City of Joy will be the first stop in the Argentine's whirlwind journey across Ahmedabad, Mumbai and New Delhi, culminating in a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sources privy to the development informed PTI that all arrangements have been finalised, including booking the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. However, an official confirmation from Messi is still awaited. 'It's been finalised and we are waiting for an official announcement from Messi, maybe on his social media handle anytime soon,' said the source. 'As of now we have agreed on the proposed itinerary and we are just awaiting an official announcement from his social media, which would be in anytime soon,' the source added. Kolkata leg: 70-ft statue, GOAT Cup with Ganguly As per the itinerary, Messi will land in Kolkata on the night of December 12 around 10 pm and will stay for two days and one night — the longest stop on his tour. The Argentina captain's Kolkata schedule on December 13 will begin at 9 am with a meet-and-greet event, followed by the unveiling of a 70-feet statue of him at Lake Town Sribhumi on VIP Road. Organisers claim this will be the first-ever and tallest statue of the World Cup winner anywhere in the world. He will then head to Eden Gardens, where the GOAT Concert and GOAT Cup will be held from 12 noon to 1:30 pm. 'I don't want to mislead people. So basically, it will be a celebration of Messi — a masterclass with Messi,' said the source. 'He will play the GOAT Cup in a seven-a-side soft-ball, soft-touch game with Sourav Ganguly, Leander Paes, John Abraham, Bhaichung Bhutia among others. It will be a celebration play in respect of Messi,' the source explained. He hoped for a sellout crowd as it will be a fully ticketed event. 'This will be at Eden. It will be a ticketing event. Known for its massive trunk that resembles an elephant's body, this iconic tree has become a cultural and ecological treasure in the city of Nizams. The baobab's unusual name, Hatian Jhad, comes from the Hindi word for 'elephant tree", a nod to its thick, gnarled trunk that curves and bulges like an elephant in motion. The trunk houses a cavernous hollow with a circumference of 25 metres, large enough to accommodate up to 40 people at once. Hatian Jhad has become a popular destination for both tourists and local families. Protected Monument Status Local guide S Kumar told Local 18 that the Hatian Jhad Baobab Tree now sits within a secure enclosure inside the Hyderabad Golf Club, safeguarded by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The ASI installed an iron fence around the tree after environmental activists and residents raised alarms over potential damage and degradation. Responding to these concerns, the ASI officially declared the baobab a protected monument of national importance. How To Visit The closest metro stop is Jubilee Hills Check Post Metro Station, located about 3 kms away. From there, autos and rickshaws are readily available to take visitors directly to the site. While folklore claims the tree was planted by an African traveller centuries ago, this remains unverified.
